S.O.D. was with Megaforce back in '85 but I think they were with Nuclear Blast on the last album.

heres the deal with MRH,they're nu metal, and i absolutely cant stand nu metal, its metal for mainstreamers that are into hard rock and isnt challenging to the listeners, its very vocally driven and has a lack of good riffs or any riffs at all, most of the people who love the genre are generally just casual music listeners or are just starting to get into metal,MRH is one of the few nu metal bands i actually respect but i cant say i like them,...are they unique...yes; do they have alot of talent....read on,i used to like them but as i got more into more into metal and started analyzing what i heard i realized where the underground lovers were comin from and thats were i stand today, since they are startin to get really popular now i decided to go back and take a good chunk of time analyzing their stuff and looking for any talent in it,and just as i expected i found very poor musicianship and an overall lack of skill in what i heard,....make what you want of this post but the point i'm tryin to get accross is that most of you will get more mature with your tastes and no longer be impressed by something so un-complex,and i'm sure some of you will cearse me out and think that i might care(trust me,i wont)but i'm just here to tell you that you will most likely grow up and get a better understanding of music and see where i and all true metalheads are comin from

You make some good points and I agree with most, however some of the best songs are simple as hell. Walk by pantera is one example. Almost everything AC/DC has done. I agree most nu-metal sucks (Korn, SOAD, PM5K, ..) but bands like Sevendust have very good musicians. Mushroomhead do bring somthing unique to the genre.
Another thing, most death metal bands sound the same, as well as hardcore. Some are good, some aren't. Just the same, you have to see a lot of bands live to critique them. Bottom line good music is good music.

But good music doesnt have to be a band that bassically ripped off Faith No More
and played a Seal cover.

True. I saw them play a small show in suburban Chicago last winter with Bile and Blown. They didn't play the Seal song, but they did play part of a Prince song, that goes "maybe I'm just like my father.." I don't know what it's called.
They sound similar to Faith No More, but rip off, no more than Godsmack ripped of Alice in Chains.

They need better vocalists.

Having two singers is kind of a copout if one isn't playing an instrument. The singer was just that, he could sing but rarely. J-man sounded like a semi-rapping/semi-death-metal vocalist...Also a little bit too much in the style of Dez from Devildriver/Coal Chamber, only inferior.

The real talent is in their rhythm section and their keyboardist. Some very interesting songs ("Before I Die", "Mother Machinegun", "Sun Doesnt Rise", "These Filthy Hands", "Bwomp", "Solitaire Unraveling") have come from just those few guys. Not what I would call classic, or great, but unique....memorable.

There are better bands, but Mushroomhead have something, I just don't think they have suitable singers yet. I could see a more angry Maynard Keenan singer or even a Phil Anselmo-like singer really putting this band on course.

Let's see first off if you can't write more than one sentence with a f word you have shown your intelligance. Second I am allowed my opinion and if you don't like it you don't have to blast me for it. Third and most important Mushroomhead is a knock off of Slipknot if they were original my opinion would be very different. When you goto the grocery store you don't buy generic Mac & Cheese you want the real thing. Hense this is why knock off's of original's suck.

Why are Mushroomhead a 'knock off' of Slipknot? They wore masks on stage before them for a start and due to Slipknot getting huge and them not they took a lot of crap from people who hadn't known them many moons ago and ditched the masks because of it. Musically they couldnt be more different, Slipknot deriving from a mix of thrash/speed and mixing it with the nu-metal sound of the time whilst Mushroomhead took on the alt-rock/metal of FNM and mixed that up with the nu-metal sound. Yes, as stated, they took a big influence from FNM's sound and styled it with the metal sound of the times to create there own sound, this doesnt make them a rip-off, bloody hell, we wouldnt have metal at all if thats the view, lets face it if we told bands they couldnt take influence from bands such as Black Sabbath, Zepplin, Ramones etc etc, its all a hybrid in someway with them orig metal sounds being mixed and evolving with the other styles the artists are into, thats how music progresses. I think Mushroomhead are a good band, they aren't the best by any means but they have some good songs and the times Ive seen em live they have pulled off a great show and over-shadowed a few other acts on the bill's at the time. My only hope is with the new signing they aren't persuaded to cater more for the majority, but then the label hasnt seem to have altered their other acts such as Clutch too much. Good luck to em.

To Key, WhylordWhy and all the other non-MRH supporters....
All apologizes for using the F bomb, was in a bad mood. Now, to question my intelligence by liking a band, now that would seem to be the MOST unintelligent thing to say. I unfortunately do care what people think, and I believe you do to, otherwise you wouldnt be posting unless you have nothing worthwhile to be doing in your life, as I obviously do not either. That being said, I like a wide range of musicians and genres. Except of course country and rap. I enjoy the most complex classical music, and the most simple hard rock. Most of the simple, basic songs I have ever heard are the bands that you say are amazing. I like them just the same, and sometimes like the plainness, the simplicity. When I listen to MRH, I do enjoy their music, and plainness and simplicity are not something that comes to mind. I am an older guy, and I find my musical tastes very mature. I guess as long as I dont agree with you KEY, Im always going to have immature musical tastes.
WhylordWhy, yes you are allowed your opinion, everyone is. But just get your facts straight before you post. MRH came before Slipknot. Whose a knockoff of who? Get your stuff together. You dont like them fine. Sorry again for the cursing.
And all these people saying MRH are a FNM imitator or wannabe....I know it's being said in here, but if anything being said in here is unintelligent and just plain ignorant, it's that. Tell me what band in the world, pick what genre you want, has not been influenced by another band? So they did a Seal cover, big deal. Should that label them forever? NO. But seriously, every band has been influenced by someone. Even your beloved bands, some of which even this unintelligent , immature person likes.

Everyone has different tastes, I know someone who likes Isis, Radiohead, Blink 182, Depeche Mode and Burzum. It happens....

Mushroomhead are what they are.....Nu-metal plus. Mostly Nu-metal but bits and slices of alot of other styles....It's not especially complex, but complexity does not often qualify for good music.

Dream Theatre blows and they are better musicians than nearly everyone breathing today. Their music is emotionally dead because it's ---all--- about being so intricate.

And just so this "what came first the chicken or the egg sh**" does not continue...

Mushroomhead have been around longer than Slipknot!..... by a good 4 or 5 years if memory serves.

Still I don't like Mushroomhead but they are definitely thier own beast.....even if there is some FNM influence, thier not a direct clone.

Yes please forgive me I put the buggy before the horse so to say. Mushroomhead did come before Slipknot. But Slipknot somehow evolved past them. And yes Shroomhead everyone is saying Msh stole SK sound. But let me make a even larger point. Anymore you can't listen to one band without them sounding like another. The problem is these newer bands have to play the same beats and riffs. It is like rap they have done so many different songs with different beats that they have gotten ahead of themselves. Meaning they can't create any new beats so they recycle the old ones and they pretty much sound the same. Yes I know using rap as an example for some of you is gut wrenching.

Indeed, I almost threw up on my keyboard at the mention of that horrid word. WhylordWhy, I do agree with you in theory. Bands are sounding the same because you are right, they are playing the same beats and riffs. But I think the 2 bands have 2 totally different styles, delivery and substance. I like both. Slipknot wears a little thin on me after awhile because it all starts to sound like the same song. I dont agree with MRH stealing Slipknot's sound. They are totally different. But, everyone has their own opinion, but I dont think everyone thinks that way.
