"some music was meant to stay underground..."

Vote For Bands To Be On SOTU 2006

The first year of SOTU is complete and we're already looking forward to the 2006 Sounds Of The Underground. We'll be back raging through your city in no time and we want your input! Email us back at sotu@ferretstyle.com and let us know what bands you'd like to see on the tour next year.

Not a huge request right? A few quick things:

1. We're just going to read through these so emailing about the same band over and over again from the same email address won't help the band out anymore, it'll most likely just bum us out on the band.
2. Multiple emails (more than 2) from the same email address will be automatically deleted. Just email us once with your ideas. We've got one poor dude who's going to read all these emails, go easy on him.
3. We'd like your email to list 5 bands you'd like to see. Less if fine, but not more please.

Keep in mind this is Sounds Of The Underground, we're looking for the best from the worlds of Hardcore, Metal and everything in between. The Top 20 bands we get responses about will go on a poll on www.soundsoftheunderground.com later this year.

What's Next?

nevermore should be on this tour next year.

i wont be too disapointed if they dont have any good bands next year, i dont really have very high hopes for this tour. ill bet its always gonna be a bunch of generic american metalcore...each year.

but then again, hopefully i will be wrong.

SYL again (longer set, more songs, Devin going batsh**)
Opeth again (headliners, longer set....they have f***ing earned it)

Yes Mushroomhead is Nu-Metal but they are also Techno, Gothic, Classical, Thrash, and Funk. They are probably only 10% Nu-Metal. They sound like a Faith No More meets Pink Floyd meets Meshuggah and with the new singer you can throw in Maynard (Tool) vocal styles in the mix and you have a genre called Mushroomhead.
This tour is about bands being true to the underground scene not playing certain genres you want.
Mushroomhead is perfect for this tour.

MUSHROOMHEAD
MESHUGGAH
CROSSBREED
CHIMAIRA
AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE

those would be my five choices

face it guys Mushroomhead will be in it this year, hope you enjoy the show!

remember that XX and XIII were released by Universal Records so you won't find the first 3 or 4 albums in stores.

I don't see how they are a FNM ripoff. They were inspired by them, that's different. They sound like other bands too not just FNM plus all these bands that are being listed were also inspired by other bands just as much as Mushroomhead were inspired by FNM so I don't think it's faire singling out MRH just because you can't take the amount of fans here.
Plus XX is probably their worst album because Universal f***ed up the songs. Pick up Self-Titled and M3 and try to tell me they aren't creative.

Can it, or you'll end up converting people against your band.

Mushroomhead are interesting, their albums anyway, I've caught em live twice but didnt find them especially engrossing.
The passion is clearly there but they need a better singer for one (J-mann was too rappy, faux death-metal ,and waaay too much like Dez from Devil Driver) Jeff Nothing has good range but his delivery is very ho-hum to me. He needs to work on having more dynamic than just sing or scream. The best singers out there have 5 or more singing voices and lots of range. Nothing has the range but only one voice.

I would hope their new guy isn't J-mann two.

Jeff can do different voices in side-projects like Hatrix and Purgatory, mostly the very high pitch 80s metal type screams but he does other stuff too.

I liked JMann more because of his lyrics but I do agree that he sounded too rappish. I've heard Waylon (new singer) in 3 Quarters Dead and he sounds like he was inspired by Maynard from Tool, he also has his own unique scream (IMO). Skinny (drummer) said this new album will be a bit harder to make because Waylon is bringing about 3 or 4 vocal styles to the table and Skinny is trying to make them all fit in and keep the "Mushroomhead vibe" there.

I can't wait for the new record and I think it's pretty sweet how the Mushroomhead fans took over but I agree that it can turn people off the band and we don't want that. The "IP Logged" things don't work at all. Some IPs show up the same for two posts that are obviously made by 2 different people (one for Shroom and one against them). Maybe it's just my computer lol

Having one badass f***ing fan base that will do anything in their power to make sure THEIR band gets places. The label 'underground' has nothing to do with the music, but almost everything to do with the fans. So why get p***ed and b**** because Mushroomhead's fans are doing the 'underground' thing and hyping what they believe to be one of the best bands ever? Of-f***ing-course they're going to be more well-known than say Satrycon. I'm not saying their a bad band, I've been pretty clear on the fact that I think they're decent, even semi-interesting but they just don't reach me in the same way as bands like Opeth, Strapping Young Lad and Pigdestroyer.
