Otep's Kentucky Show Shut Down By Fire Marshall

OTEP's June 26 performance at the Bulldog Cafe in Louisville, KY was reportedly shut down by the fire marshall and police due to overcrowding. The following is OTEP frontwoman Otep Shamaya's posting on the band's official web site regarding the incident:

"Even though this show only lasted 12 minutes and 47 seconds, it was obvious to me that it was populated with one of the most intense and passionate audiences we've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. If only we would have been able to play the entire set... Wow ... We would have shaken the foundations of the cosmos... But the fire marshall was a complete communist and shut everything down. But I was true to my word and wouldn't leave the stage until the cops were called... I kept singing until they forced us off the stage... The fire marshall shut off the PA during 'My Confession' but the audience kept singing... every... word.

"It was amazing.

"Then the biggest cop I've ever seen pulled Evil J's hand off his bass strings and crowded me saying, 'It's over, it's over.' So I saluted him... saluted the crowd and then I was manuevered off stage and to the bus...

"We will probably be fined and the cops are still outside the bus so who knows what will happen... But I know one thing for certain: WE WILL RETURN, AND TOGETHER ANNIHILATE THE NEOPHYTES."

OTEP's sophomore album, "House of Secrets" (2004), was produced by Greg Wells, who has previously worked with a diverse range of artists, including the DEFTONES, MICHELLE BRANCH, and ELTON JOHN. The follow-up to 2002's "Sevas Tra" was recorded at Los Angeles' Rocket Carousel Studios and features guest drumming on six tracks by SLIPKNOT basher Joey Jordison.

They are "passionate" and the emotions in some of Oteps music, "Jonestown Tea" most specificly, are so primal and raw it's borders on scary. However, the band is way too nu-metal-ish to maintain my attention for very long. And Otep herself is a bit more melodramatic than even the average front-person, she also has a history of being condescending. Oddly...I agree with some of her politics, but she just comes off as preachy and crazy sometimes.

If you read oteps lyrics and you read interviews..youll come to find that otep is very much a postive woman...who is trying to help save those who are almost near death emotionally...she uses her music to fight her past and deal with it....she uses her music to help people understand that they arent alone...you cant just say a band sucks because she comes off as a devil worshiper...no...sometimes...you cant judge a book by the cover.....oepn you eyes a little before you condemn someone for trying to help this world...she might not have all the same political views or religious views...but who does...we are all different....and she is just trying to be herself....

^^Aight, some of those comments are totally f***ed up. "the cops should have opened fire on that band and their fans" -Rulin Kmadd. ok Rulin Kmadd, you dun went and f***ed with my day c***. that was out of line straight up. You have your rights to express your opinions, yes, but I take that comment as sort of wishing harm on the band and their fans. If ignorance is bliss, you must be orgasmic. Otep's music has been a candle in my darkness, when ever I am depressed I turn on Otep, I listen to the lyrics that inspire so many to keep fighting...that teach so many to express their creativity. and to express who/what we are.So keep going, keep saying ignorant sh** like that, BTW you ever hear of KARMA?! Anyways, I'm not going to say anything else because believe Spiders has already said enough, and has pretty much spoken for me....

People need to understand what the band Otep stands for. They are not just a metal band, they are much more unique than that. They are a movement, a project so to speak. They definetly help people when the straw is about to break. Their passion is felt at everyone of their shows. It's nothing like any other metal show. Otep is out there doing their part to encourage strength, and to open people's minds to everything going on in this world, and to let them know that they aren't alone and there is help out there for those who need it. I encourage people to see what they are about, and not to judge them by their music. I've been a diehard fan of Otep for many years, and I admire what they are doing. I hope i speak for many others on this board.
