Otep Begin Working On New Material

OTEP frontwoman Otep Shamaya has posted the following message on the group's official web site:
"I am very pleased to announce that we have turned the cog and are in early developmental stages of writing our next album ... We will be recording our next opus sometime this fall. I am proud and honored to have this opportunity and extend my thanks and appreciation to our label [Capitol Records] for their continued belief in me and the music we create.
"As for summer touring, Gigantour is still a possibility ... But regardless, we will be ravaging the savage summer — somehow, some way ... and with new material to massacre the masses with."

Dude, I know how you feel, Mtv ruins everything, i guess they play a handfull of good bands like, audioslave, tool, apc and Incubus, Its better to keep things underground, there is Plenty of amazing bands that mtv wouldnt play (haha id love to see them play a song off Niles new album), f*** Mtv and f*** the mainstream!!

Okay. This is what i have to say. Saddly i've worked with radio. Radio sucks for the most part. But i can almost see where you guys are coming from. Mtv=Radio. But look at it like this. What the f*** did Otep do wrong. People started liking them so people bought their stuff. Its not like they're not true to their roots. I mean come the f*** on. Every time some band that has been underground happens to get popular people are saying that they sold out or that they have gone mainstream. What f*** is the problem with some of you people. People saying Otep sold out, Dimmu Borgir sold out, Cradle of Filth sold out, Slayer sold out. Not they did not. Just because people want to buy their clothes and they happen to be on tv more than they used to be does not mean that they sold out. Now when i see Otep modeling for victoria secret i might think there is something wrong. If i see Kerry King Posing in playgirl i might worry. But quit being d*** lickers and stop accusing people of selling out just because you lose interest in them. Metal will never be extremly big again until people just shut the f*** up and quit complaining about stupid sh** like this.

Symbolic is right though dude, Its great you stand for the just the music (I do the same) but seeing people who used to diss the band that is now 'the big thing' wear their merchandise and say how much they rule is just a big kick in the teeth, I dont like Otep and i never have, I try and listen to stuff that cant be spoiled by the likes of Mtv and mall goths, and it seems to be working well.

So, you guys see where I'm coming from, then. But it's not just them; bands like Dimmu Borgir and CoF have also become moderately mainstream, and when this happens to a band, it does feel like a big slap in the face to fans who were there from practically the beginning. Mr. Metal does have a very valid point, though.

Bands become mainstream because more and more people like to listen to them. And when this happens tv buys from the record company. These bands are not changing their ways or anything. THey are just being recognized for what they are doing. There is no way in the world that you could say that these bands sold. out. Dimmu Borgir and COF usually do about 10 free concerts a year. This has been going on since about 93. THese bands are not selling out. Its just that more and more people hear about them and like them. And come on. You cant say that Dimmu, Cradle, or Otep are really mainstream. You really think radio is going to play their music. And some of you might say that Slipknot is mainstream. I can say they are. But thats only because their fans made them mainstream. It was the respect that they gained. Just like any other metal band. So these bands are not sellouts.

Oh, boy...yet another sh**ty album from another sh**ty band. I actually used to like Otep before they became this big, overblown, mainstream trend. I can still remember when I was the only person in my entire school who had even heard of Otep, and all the "gawth" people at my school were listening to trash like Trapt and Cold. Now, however, because of the enormous exposure that MTV2 and Fuse has given the band after the release of House of Secrets, EVERYBODY knows who they are. Now, I feel so alienated from them, even betrayed! The very same f***ers that would look down on me for liking Otep and not a host of flavor-of-the-week pop/punk retards are now all wearing Otep T-shirts! It's like some sick f***ing joke!
