Wicked Wisdom Faces Uphill Battle For Acceptance At Ozzfest 2005

Sky Showbiz has posted the following report about Wicked Wisdom's recent addition to the Ozzfest Lineup:
Jada Pinkett Smith faces an uphill struggle to be accepted on the heavy metal circuit, despite the backing of Ozzy Osbourne.
The Hollywood actress and her pop metal band Wicked Wisdom are at the receiving end of all sorts of threats after Ozzy included them in the line-up for Ozzfest. "Wicked Wisdom will be pelted by every loose object on the Ozzfest grounds," one comment on the Ozzfest website claimed.
Her band, who supported Britney Spears in Europe on her Onyx Hotel tour last year have also opened for Papa Roach - but clearly this is not the sort of recommendation wanted by metal fans.
"If they opened for Britney Spears, then they must suck," another Ozzfest-lover said. "This is going to cause a ****ing riot... Bring your steel-toed boots!" claimed another.
Apparently, Sharon Osbourne is a big fan of Jada's band and that is the reason that they've made it into the line-up.
They'll be joining the likes of Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Velvet Revolver at the festival which opens in Mansfield, Massachusetts, on 15 July 2005.
Jada is clearly following in the footsteps of her acting rapper of a husband Will Smith - they must make up the most multi-talented house in Hollywood.

well, the line-up besides them Is great .. for Ozzfest that is ... finally there starting to get european bands like The Haunted, Arch Enemy and In Flames on the bill, and the hardcore bands are the better of the bunch ... like Shadows Fall, It Dies Today, Trivium (not really core i think) etc. ... then this egg (boiled in sh**) cracks.

I think the overlooked point here is that the music festival in question is called "Ozzfest". Meaning, if Ozzy wants it on the tour with him, Ozzy puts it on the tour with him. If you think you can make yourself into the self proclaimed "Prince of Darkness", and everyone believe it for as long as they've believed it with Ozzy, then you can have your own "fill-in-the-blank-fest" and put whoever you want on the tour. Until that point I wouldn't be questioning what one of the most influential metal madmen of all time wants to do with his own, personal "fest". (granted, he is a burned out doper, but alas it's still his festival)
At the heighth of the metal movement (when bands like slayer and metallica were still young) we would have laughed at bands like Slipknot being included in a metal fest, but times have changed. I for one am allright with new sounds, and am not going to feel threatened by them. I say give the girl a chance. She might suck, but you might hear something you like.

Okay...please don't bash me I'm not a fan of MM or Jada. I am a professional music reviewer and avid Metal fan. But MM is a good band they hit the R&B and Rock sound right on with just a touch of metal thrown in. They are not a "Brittany" act. Mrs. Smith does posses a great singing voice and I believe there band will go on to do well. But Ozzfest is a METAL tour and MM just will not fit in. So instead of taking on the Neanderthal image that is pressed upon us metal heads and doing something that could get us kicked out of the show, just take that 20mins that they are on stage to get a beer, or a smoke or pick up on some hottie. Don't like the band? Fine, don't watch them. Go do something else during their set. It's not like Ozzfest hasn't had crappy bands in the past... First off - WW is going to be the first band on the SECOND STAGE. The SECOND STAGE!! When is that? About 12:00? No one's going to be there! Anyway, the Osbornes like them, so I'll give them a chance. If there's one thing I hate the most, it has to be buttholes that hate someone (before they even HEAR the music) enough to say they're going to throw something at them. If I see ANYONE throwing ANYTHING at WW at the Camden show, I will personally walk up to them and KNOCK THEM OUT. Give them a chance. If you don't like them - heckle them - don't throw stuff. I'm with Old Skool on this one. I can't find even a track of theirs on the web anywhere, so that means their probably just finishing the recording. Not to mention the fact that they might actually be good. When I first heard about it I was kinda p***ed too, but that was when I thought Jada was doing typical R&B bullsh**. When I found out it was a rock band, I wasn't so p***ed anymore. So if you don't want to see them, show up at 12:30. They'll probably be off stage by then. So shut the hell up. Ozzie is the Godfather of Metal. Anybody who suggests anything else is and idiot. He is the most recognizable figure in metal still today. His music is just as powerful today as when it was orginally released. He is probably the most copied metal artist out there. I'm talking true metal not this crap angry people listen to. I think they call it "Death Metal". Ozzie is the pulse of heavy metal. He has kept this medium in the spotlight during this current reign of rap "music" that plagues or nation today. If Ozzie says they are good enough to play then I will listen with an open mind and then form my opinion. People who limit themselves don't really like music anyway and should be stifled. These current bands most of you listen to now aren't true metal anyway. In the metal world there is a fine line between music and noise. Todays artist make "angry at the world" noise. Ozzie should be applauded for opening up his venue to feature artists who keep the spirit of metal alive. All of you nay sayers should burn your limited brains because you aren't using them anyway. And it's not "selling out" it's called making a living.

There are a lot of bands I didn't like the first time I heard them over time as they kept producing cd's I heard something I liked & ended up buying every cd that band recorded & that band was Metallica!!! There is a high probabillity that no one will like Wicked Wisdom & if you feel this way then you can mark them off your check list & adjust your schedule accordingly. You have a choice...Go to the show or not...Go to the show & omit Wicked Wisdom from your listening pleasure but you do not have the right to show your morbid stupidity to incite a riot & ruin everyone elses evening who paid hansomely to enjoy just like you did. Those of you who are incline do so are only there to for a guitar riff or scale or drum beat to bang your head to & pickel your silly little minds without giving consideration to the effort put into lyrical content . it appears to me that if you have nothing better to do than surf the net and find this message board, then you need some more hobbies. Secondly, not all of us on here are b****ing for no reason about this band. Yes, there are a few on here that are whining about it and getting all defensive and threatening to throw sh** and start riots. These kids ARE idiots. I'm willing to think that they are simple high-schoolers who only enjoy heavy metal b/c it makes them different. Same reason high school kids dress goth/punk/skater/homey/etc. Trust me I know. I used to be one of them. I'm now 23 and "grew up." This doesn't mean I still don't love dying my hair, getting tattoos/piercings, and listening to heavy metal and moshing and crowd-surfing. This just means that I don't do it simply to get a rise out of people like your typical H.S.er does. Some kids grow and realize that they looked like idiots, others grow up and realize they love the music, but still respect everyone else's choices of music/clothes/etc. Others just never grow up and other still grow up and have to suppress their creative style of dress b/c of their work environment. I am in that predicament right now. I'd love to wear my big a$$ boots, color my hair, get tattoos that I don't have to hide. Sadly, the "real world" is still prejudice and you'll all learn (if some of you haven't already) that at times we DO need to conform. Trust me....even that word..conform...makes me cringe and want to vomit!
Anywho....don't come on here saying we are all idiots because we don't think Jada's band deserves to be on the ticket. There are some in here who probably need meds to help with their depression/anger issues but other than that, some of us are making actual arguments here.

I think everyone here with more than half a single functioning brain cell know that the race issue is utterlly absurd.
Half the people with racial problems are those (i live in Louisville, I have every right to say this) deep south dwelling, uneducated, dentist needing, sister violating, pink skinned, extra chromosome having, Kid Rock worshipping (ah, the hypocrisy), confederate flag waving, "The south shall rise again" inbreds who had fathers that beat them and left them thus they deficate their own bed until thier 11 and have their first sexual experience with livestock.
People like that are most commonlly racist, those people --NEED-- a bad guy...and Pedro or Rashawn will do just fine.
Other racists come in affluent white skinned neo-con homes. These are people who don't see much of of the "colored folk" as they call them. So when they see a guy with darker skin pigment crossing the street they lock the doors of their 2005 Mercedes GasChugger XL. These people also have an entrenched theory that because they are college educated they are correct in their media and family induced fears. The culture divide between these kinds of people and the African American community is so outlandish and well documented entire movies and sitcoms have been based on it.
Then theres the sad and gigantic number of people who are subconsciouslly racist. They have nothing against other races and even tend to get along with them pretty well, but their less likely to hold a door for a African American guy or thank a Hispanic waitress for her service...this can also amount to smaller tips, increased hostility in a discussion, and getting pulled over by cops, AKA racial profiling.
Will Smith doesnt suck because he's black, he sucks because his music is pure cookie cutter kid safe pop. The man has decent acting cred though, so he has my respect in that regard. Jada is more of a concern due to the sheer fact that she opened for Brittney Spears, this will not be a band that sounds like Lamb of God, Trivium or some other Ozzfest candidate.
And since racism per capita increases the further south you go, exempting some regions, the more likely Wicked Wisdom + Will Smith is going to be poorly recieved.....that and they probablly WILL suck.

Case one:
Marilyn Manson and Hole Tour of 99......FANS OF BOTH BANDS NEARLY KILLED EACHOTHER.
Case two:
Weezer and Cold Tour 2001....Fans threw their coke bottle glasses at Cold for having anger in their songs........versus sweaters, angsty bad proms wishing and other "revenge of the nerds" themes in their music....no band can tour with weezer unless they cry as much or more than the average emo band.
Lolapalooza 2004...the lineup did not make sense. It was SO eclectic that it couldn't attract enough members of any demographic. They had to scrap the thing cus it was doing so poorly.....You do not put obscure bands (Flaming Lips, Wilco, The Pixies) new up and comers(the Killers and Modest mouse) and a circus on a bill and cross your fingers.
Putting people who are fans of Slayer and a band that that is pure pop-rock (Wicked Wisdom) in the same environment is a recipe for disaster, just as the 3 situations above were.
