Update: the cause of death has now been reported as a suicide.

Chris Cornell, the singer for such successful bands as Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog, has passed away at the age of 52. The cause of death is unknown at this time and a medical examination will be performed in due course, but his death occured shortly after Soundgarden performed a concert in Detroit last night (May 17th.) More information about the singer's death will be revealed as soon as it becomes available.

Cornell made his name with Soundgarden, one of the biggest and most influential grunge bands who helped define the "Seattle sound," releasing five albums before their split up, after which he joined three of the four members of Rage Against the Machine to form Audioslave, a highly successful group who released three albums before parting company in 2007.

He was also known for his solo career, releasing five albums beginning with "Euphoria Morning" in 1999 and scoring a hit with, "You Know My Name," the theme song to the James Bond film, "Casino Royale." He reunited with Soundgarden in 2010 and the band released another album, "King Animal" in 2012. Soundgarden were writing new material at the time of his passing.

Chris Cornell entered the Pretty Noose and said goodbye to family, friends, fame and fortune. What a pathetic waste.

Terrible news. I wish he could've felt comfortable enough to talk to his family or friends about how he was feeling, before moving to such a harsh decision. I guess no one really knew he was struggling the way he was. My condolences go out to his family and friends. RIP
