AC/DC Splits With Guitarist Malcolm Young, Band To Still Make New Music
During the last few days rumors have been swirling the web that AC/DC would finally be hanging up its hat and calling it quits. Now the band has issued the following brief announcement about parting ways with Malcolm Young and continuing on with new music:
"After forty years of life dedicated to AC/DC, guitarist and founding member Malcolm Young is taking a break from the band due to ill health. Malcolm would like to thank the group’s diehard legions of fans worldwide for their never-ending love and support.
"In light of this news, AC/DC asks that Malcolm and his family’s privacy be respected during this time. The band will continue to make music."
Stay turned for further statements from the band. AC/DC was also previously covered in the "Monsters of Rock" edition of our Sunday Old School column here.

Without Malcolm I truly hope all the talk of AC/DC continuing on is just face-saving brave words, which they are understandably entitled to considering the unhappy and sudden developments.. They were one of my favorite bands growing up and still are, but without either of the Young brothers, I hope they'll have the balls to pack it in. Being THE songwriter, Malcolm Young has always been the heart and soul of AC/DC--he was the boss. As someone who greatly admired them for over 34 years, I hope they will gracefully and respectfully bow out , and show the "business world" and "fans" that they are bigger than consumer demand. It would be appropriate and classy.

AC/DC splits with Malcolm Young? What the hell kind of headline is that? You make it sound like the band is letting him go. As you correctly mention (after that awful headline) "Malcolm Young is taking a break from the band due to ill health." Please choose your (headline) wording more thoughtfully next time.

These dudes are on their way out, but I mean that in the most respectable, saddening way possible. Johnson isn't gonna be able to sing like that for much longer no matter how energetic Angus is. AC/DC is one of the greatest rock bands of all time to me and I'll always salute those about to rock.
