Skinlab Begins Work On New Album

American groove metal veterans Skinlab has announced that they have begun work on their next studio album. In the meantime, the group has also revealed that drummer Paul Hopkins has departed from the band and been replaced by Fabian Vastod. A statement from vocalist Steve Esquivel reads as follows:

"First off we are very happy to announce that Skinlab has officially started recording our new album with legendary producer Ulrich Wild and we are excited for our first release on Art Is War records and the rebirth of Skinlab. With new beginnings comes new members and the return of some old. This will be the first album with our new drummer Fabian Vastod, after departure of original drummer Paul Hopkins.

"Fabian who is no stranger to Skinlab has been friends with the band for many years. Fabian came in strong and started recording demos and immediately became the obvious choice that he was our guy! Ten brand new tracks of brutality are in the works and we couldn’t be happier with the results! We’re on a new mission to get back on the radar and more importantly back on the stage to do what we love doing while the fire is still burning! Today we are currently in the Bay Area tracking guitars at Snakes Greendot Studios featuring our new guitarist Marcos Medina as well as Snakes return after a year and a half absence from the band! These are exciting times for Skinlab we’ve got our nose to the grind.... expect a new heavy and see you on the road this summer!”

Heavy Metal In Video Games Part 5

Heavy metal and video games are such an obvious combination that its baffling the collision doesn't happen more often. Despite four decades of games to work through, the number of titles that specifically revolve around metal themes or use heavy metal soundtracks is just abysmally low.

Today we're going to take another look at the limited options available, covering some old and some new entries that should be sitting on your shelf or taking up space in your Steam library.

For those who missed our previous three articles discussing various games with heavy metal soundtracks, be sure to go back and check 'em out (and let us know if you end up playing or re-playing any of these gems!):

Part 1: the amazing Brutal Legend, Saints Row III, Killing Floor 2, Pain Killer, and Guilty Gear X2 Reload

Part 2: Splatterhouse, Twisted Metal 2, The Witcher's bonus music disc, and Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost And The Damned.

Part 3 (the retro edition!): Rock And Roll Racing, Beavis And Butthead, F-Zero X, Earthbound, and Heavy Metal Geomatrix

Part 4: the return of music games with Rock Band in addition to Carmageddon, NeverDead, and NeverGone. More...

Skinlab Parts Ways With Guitarist Mike Roberts

Skinlab has nanounced that it has once again parted ways with guitarist Mike Roberts. Skinlab bassist/vocalist Steev Esquivel posted the following update on the situation:

"We've basically been contemplating our next move, having recently parted ways again with our brother Mike Roberts.

"Things have been pretty rough the last year, not having a solid lineup to get out on the road and support our latest album, 'The Scars Between Us'... We basically had to make a drastic decision to continue on our quest for a permanent guitarist.

"As much as we loved having Mike back in the band, it became obvious to both of us that his schedule and family obligations would not allow him to participate in touring. While we were hoping to jump back on track and write/tour/record together, it just wasn't working. It was a shitty decision to make on both ends, but we wish nothing but the best for Mike and his family."
