Exodus Holds The Headbanger's Ball In London

December has been one Hell of a month for tours. Great Britain has been treated to a wide array of bands visiting this month, while there's also been some real treats when it comes to tour packages. Perhaps there was no tour with more to offer, especially to fans of thrash metal, than the Headbanger's Ball tour, which made its only British stop in London a few weeks ago. Denim vests, high top running shoes and band patches at the ready, it's a night of old school thrash.

Opening the show, all the way from Athens (Greece, not Ohio,) was Suicidal Angels. Many will remember about ten years ago, there was the thrash revival, which saw a number of young bands bring back the thrash of the eighties, many going full retro and singing songs about Robocop. While many of these groups simply rehashed the style, there were some who brought a freshness to the genre, either by putting a modern spin on things or adding some new elements. Suicidal Angels were one of the few that fall into the latter category and proved on this night that they're still going strong not just because the music's good, but because they're a real force live. Obviously, they had the shortest set time on the bill, but fans who arrived early were treated to a quality display of thrash metal, which instead of being a nostalgia act, was an energetic outburst of metal. Opa! More...

Sodom To Release New EP In November

Attention all Sodom fans, there’s exciting news from Tom Angelripper & Co. On the one hand, the band are currently at the studio to record new material, on the other their next shows are scheduled for early September, and the end of November will see the start of their extensive MTV Headbangers Ball Tour 2018 alongside Exodus, Death Angel and Suicidal Angels.

And as if that wasn’t enough great news, the best bit of intelligence comes directly from the thrash metal act’s inner circle...

“We’re a real family again,” enthuses frontman Angelripper following the band’s lineup change in spring 2018. “We all really enjoy the new lineup consisting of Frank Blackfire (guitar, ex-Sodom, ex-Kreator, Assassin), Yorck Segatz (guitar, Beyondition), Husky (drums, Asphyx, Desaster) and myself. There’s a real team spirit again, we’re having a great time together, every one of us is interested in everything and - really important! - everybody is there for everybody else. Obviously that kind of atmosphere is bound to have a positive effect on the songwriting.” More...

Sodom Reveals New Lineup

While rumours are still flying thick and fast in the media, Tom Angelripper has already announced the new line-up of his band Sodom: Husky (Asphyx, Desaster) is set to man the drum kit, Frank Blackfire (ex-Sodom, ex-Kreator, Frank Blackfire, Assassin) and Yorck Segatz (Beyondition) have been enlisted on guitars. Sodom have already released seminal albums such as Persecution Mania, the live cut Mortal Way Of Live and the highly successful Agent Orange with Frank Blackfire.

As he had hinted at the beginning of the year, Tom has opted for a line-up featuring two guitarists, an absolute novelty for Sodom. "Two guitarists allow us much more possibilities live, so we will be able to play tracks in future that we weren't able to perform as a trio," the Sodom vocalist/bassist explains his motives. In line with these new possibilities, the thrash act has already started to put together a setlist for the upcoming shows with all important classics as well as rare numbers that had never or only rarely been heard at their gigs. Says Tom: "I can promise that we will really let it rip in future." More...

Ex-Sodom Guitarist & Drummer Fired Via WhatsApp

Guitarist Bernd "Bernemann" Kost and drummer Markus "Makka" Freiwald have released a joint statement regarding their exit from German thrash metal outfit Sodom.

As reported past Friday (January 5) Sodom bassist/vocalist and sole remaining founding member Thomas "Angelripper" Such, announced that he made the decision to part ways with Kost and Freiwald because he wanted to "start all over again with fresh and hungry musicians."

Kost and Freiwald addressed their departure from the band, writing in a Facebook post:

“Tom has already pointed it out in his statement that in fact we have slightly drifted apart from each other. Indeed, our conceptions of respect and workload diverged even further. Also tour offers neglected by Tom disappointed us.

“After its overwhelming reactions, we were totally looking forward to creating a successor to ‘Decision Day’ and have already recorded lots of song ideas. Unfortunately, Tom did not share our enthusiasm; he terminated his cooperation with us via WhatsApp even without listening to any of the new material.

“Of course, it is not easy for us to leave Sodom — the band that have become such a huge part of our lives and that we totally identify with. But, we will not stop doing what we love — together we will found a new band and we will see a way forward.

“Within our hearts, we will remain Sodom even if Tom is not with us any longer.”

Sodom Part Ways With Guitarist & Drummer

Sodom mainman and sole remaining founding member Thomas "Angelripper" Such, has parted ways with drummer Markus "Makka" Freiwald and guitarist Bernd "Bernemann" Kost.

Says Tom Angelripper: "After much thought and reflection, I have decided on this difficult step to pave the way for new challenges. Sodom have always lived off the commitment and passion of everybody involved. Makka was part of the band for almost eight years, Bernemann even for more than twenty. To obviate a possible routine setting in which would make it impossible to continue our creative work optimally, I would like to start all over again with fresh and hungry musicians. At the same time, I would like to say thank you to Bernemann and Makka for many successful years in which we performed fantastic shows and released a number of real metal manifestos."

Despite this lineup change, all planned Sodom shows will take place from April 2018 as announced. Tom is set to introduce his new brothers in crime at the Full Metal Mountain festival. Being asked if Sodom will continue to operate as a trio or perhaps will become a quartet remains uncertain.

Explains Angelripper: More...

More Details On New Sodom "Decision Day" Issued

German thrash legends Sodom announced more details on the upcoming new full length album "Decision Day," which is due to drop on August 26th via SPV/Steamhammer Records.

Together with his two comrades-in-arms, guitarist Bernemann and drummer Markus "Makka" Freiwald, bassist/vocalist Tom Angelripper spent four months at the studio honing the new Sodom material. The result is a hard-as-nails, diverse thrash metal offering on the subject of D-Day, the day in June 1944 when the troops of the Western Allied forces landed in Normandy to liberate mainland Europe from the scourge of Nazi Germany.

Songs such as "Belligerence," "Decision Day" and "Strange Lost World" present the Sodom front man once more as a historically well-versed contemporary witness and critical observer of current international events. "Decision Day" was produced by Cornelius "Corny" Rambadt, sound engineer and drummer with Angelripper's side project Onkel Tom.

The new release is bound to cause a stir, not least thanks to its impressive artwork courtesy of none other than Joe Petagno. As well as having worked for Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, Petagno is also Motörhead's favored graphic designer and has created legendary album covers such as Overkill, Orgasmatron and Another Perfect Day. Angelripper: "I was surprised and proud to learn how familiar Joe is with Sodom, immediately bringing up associations of our "Knarrenheinz" when we talked about the artwork. For a Motörhead fan like myself, this cover is an absolute dream come true." More...
