Powerglove Postpones Show w/ Video Game Orchestra

Powerglove has planned to performa alongside the Video Game Orchestra at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston on November 14th and film the show for a DVD. However, the band has cancelled their appearance there and issued the following update about it:

"We unfortunately have to postpone our concert with the Video Game Orchestra until February. Refunds will be available for everyone who bought a ticket. We're thinking of filming the show which means we want it to be as big of a production as possible and there just wasn't enough time with the date we had planned.

"We promise that this will mean a bigger, beefier, more bacontastic show for all of you!"

Arsis Announces U.S. Tour

Virginia's Arsis has announced a run headlining U.S. tour dates in December. "A Tour for the Sick" is presented by MetalInjection.net and will include Powerglove and Conducting From The Grave. Arsis vocalist/guitarist Jim Malone commented:

"What does a band that is notorious for canceling tours, video game induced tendinitis, and a Noah Martin look-a-like all have in common? If you have spent the better part of your existence trying to play 16th triplet arpeggios at 250 bpm you will probably be overcome with joy (or something) to hear that we (meaning Arsis dudes), Powerglove, and Conducting From The Grave are teaming up for a US tour this December. We are beyond stoked for our first headlining tour in support of Starve for the Devil and hope to see you at one (or more) of the tour dates. We promise to 'turn up the hell' on this one and make your weekend (or week night) one that is 'rock hard' and metalificated."

The currently announced dates are as follows:

12/01/10 Championship Bar & Grill – Trenton, NJ
12/02/10 Evening Star Music Hall – Niagara Falls, NY
12/03/10 Pirates Cove – Cleveland, OH

Firewind Posts New Music Video Online

The Greek melodic metal band FIREWIND, led by young guitar sensation Gus G., has returned with the scathing new studio album "Days of Defiance." The disc is set for an October 25th release worldwide.

The video for the album’s blistering lead-off single, “World On Fire,” can now be viewed exclusively at MetalSucks. The clip was shot by the renowned Patric Ullaeus (Dimmu Borgir, In Flames, Lacuna Coil).

FIREWIND will celebrate the album’s release with a limited number of special North American headlining shows. The trek, which kicks off on November 4th and runs through November 7th, features Powerglove and The Absence in the support slots.

Gus G. states: “The video for ‘World on Fire’ was shot entirely on green screen and I think this time Patric Ullaeus has outdone himself! The concept is based on the album cover artwork and it's something we're doing for the first time on a video of ours. There's a barbaric vibe to it, lots of fire, metal warriors and even a Valkyrie. We're very pleased with the final result and we believe this is our best video yet. Check it out and let the FIREWIND rage on.

“We are also very happy to announce four special album release shows in North America this fall in support of our new record, Days of Defiance. It's been awhile since FIREWIND played North America, as our last tour was Spring/Summer 2008.

“This is a very special run for us, as it will be the first time we'll play the new songs live. It also might be awhile until we come back for a full North American run, so we REALLY hope to see many of you come out to these shows. We'll be sure to rock you to the ground and that's a promise!”

Here are the FIREWIND headlining shows:

11/4 Volume 11 – Raleigh, NC
11/5 Jaxx – West Springfield, VA
11/6 The Gramercy – New York, NY
11/7 Les Foufounes Electriques – Montreal, Que

Powerglove Checks In With Album and Tour Blog

Boston-based video game metal band Powerglove has checked in with the following update:

"Well it's 5 in the morning, we're leaving for a double tour in a little more than a day, I haven't packed, and i'm not going to sleep anytime soon. Thanks, Starcraft 2 Beta.

"Seriously, thanks to Andrew at Blizzard for hooking us up with Beta keys out of the blue. I never imagined my life could be ruined and made complete by a game.

"And as much as I want to play it until I starve to death, it's time to take a long break from the Motherships and Colossi to not shower or shave for two months and play metal to you guys every single day (almost) for our mutual benefit and enjoyment. We'll be playing new songs at every show for the people who have too much tetris for one lifetime (but we're still playing it!) and we'll be doing a different new track on the Sonata Arctica tour than the Hammerfall one (for the true Powerglove zealots going to both shows, thanks guys), and three new songs at our headlining shows (simply because we can). Most bands have a hard time playing new tracks at shows because the audience doesn't know them, but Powerglove does have the shamelessly imbalanced ability to play the awesome and nostalgic themes from Xmen and Transformers which will have all the excitement of new tracks but also that warm, gooey nostalgia feeling that takes you back to those Saturday mornings in front of the tv...

"Truly those were halcyon days... More...

Unearthing Metal Video Game Cover Underground

Video game music metal covers, that’s what I’ll be reviewing here. For those new to this concept, video games, especially the old school games for NES and SNES, have always had many elements in common with metal. A Simple search on youtube or myspace, will yield plentiful results. Now it seems anyone who plays guitar decent enough is trying to play his or her favorite video game theme, movie theme, or TV show theme. Sadly most of these people are amateurs and don’t spend enough time arranging the music to form an interesting version of the song. Furthermore they usually have sub par recordings done in their bedroom with a drum machine. The bands in this article have been around for a while and put time, money, and a lot of effort into their recordings.

Boston unsigned video game metal band Powerglove are probably the most popular of the band as they have toured with power metal band Dragonforce. Their covers are constructed as progressive power metal songs. The band will be touring the US with Hammerfall in March and continue in April and May with Sonata Arctica and Mutiny Within. The band has three albums worth of covers available. I am really surprised that the band is able to tour with such popular acts, while being unsigned and a band that covers video game music. They’ve done everything from Power Rangers to Final Fantasy VII. Check out some of their covers and upcoming tour dates on their MySpace page.
