Glorior Belli Signs With Agonia
France's avantgarde black metal outfit Glorior Belli has inked a worldwide record deal with Agonia Records. The band's fifth full-length album, and successor to "The Great Southern Darkness" from 2011 (reviewed here), is set to be released in the fall of 2013. Agonia comments:
"Consequently climbing the ladder of innovation and artistic development, the French quartet managed to work out a very own sound and view in the often stiff frames found within the black metal genre. Descriptions such as 'Avant-garde black metal bluesmen' (Pitchfork) or 'bluesy doom-sludge' (Metal Sucks) are only the two sides of the same coin, that will reveal a new flip this autumn." More...

MDF 2013 Location Announced
With Sonar closing, the location of 2013's Maryland DeathFest XI was up in the air. The organizers have finally announced that the fest will be held in the same location as last year, and will be expanded. Maryland DeathFest XI will take place in Baltimore, Maryland on Memorial Day weekend, May 23-26, 2013. Tickets go on sale on October 15th at 12 pm (EST). You can read the entire update below:
We're a day early with this announcement, but we can finally let you know where MDF XI will be taking place.
In a nutshell, we will be returning to the property formerly known as Sonar, and will be at least doubling the amount of outside space that we've been used to utilizing. We realize that it's a bit of a mind fuck to wait around for a few months just to hear that the fest is returning to the same place, but truth be told, the other places we looked at were either not able to give us a definite answer anytime soon, and/or had too many inconveniences that we did not want to put the fans through. During the venue search, it was brought to our attention that the new owners of the property were willing to collaborate with us, so we decided to go through with returning to a familiar place that is close to the hotels and conveniences of downtown Baltimore.
The additional space outside will allow us to comfortably accommodate the crowd, and will allow more room for the MDF vendor village, food vendors/food trucks, places to sit, and other new additions like misting tents to escape the possibility of it being hotter than it should be that weekend. There will be two outside stages plus the stage inside. Due to the new configuration outside, the placement of the outside stages will likely be different.
As for the building itself, there are some renovations currently taking place, but the rooms will be used exactly how they have been in the past, and it will be air conditioned throughout.
We would also like to announce the addition of a second inside stage at Baltimore Soundstage, which is a 1/2 mile walk away from the former Sonar (at 124 Market Place), and will be used from Friday-Sunday. This will be a smaller show without a barricade that will feature mostly hardcore and punk bands, and it will be scheduled in a way that should not conflict with anything going on at the former Sonar compound. All of the bands for this stage will be included in next week's announcement on October 9th.

Dew-Scented Confirmed For Summer Breeze
This year's Summer Breeze festival will be taking place from August 16th - 18th, with full details available at the festival's website here. The organizers of Summer Breeze have now issued the following announcement about confirming new bands:
"Since the release of their amazing breakthrough album 'Inwards', Dew-Scented have been at the forefront of European thrash metal. Since then, the cool bunch led by frontman Leif Jensen have been producing fantastic albums full of unstoppable riff power and overwhelming intensity at nicely regular intervals, cementing the band's excellent reputation time and again. In 2012, Dew-Scented aim at kick-starting their career with an entirely new line-up – with the exception of band boss Leif – and the fantastic new album 'Icarus', and are gearing up to shatter the Summer Breeze Open Air into small pieces. We are stoked to welcome the indestructible machine called Dew-Scented at our festival once more. Get thrashed!
"When Agrypnie played the Summer Breeze festival in 2008 for the first and only time so far, they were booked as consolation for all those who were mourning the recent disbanding of Nocte Obducta. Four years, one studio album and one EP later, the Hessians have made a career for themselves, having now reached the same level as the aforementioned group. Their new studio album is still being recorded as we speak, but their last EP 'Asche' was already an announcement for big things to come in the realm of post black metal. Expressive, multi-faceted, melancholic, dynamic – all these attributes fit Agrypnie like a glove and are underlined by the fact that their songs don't ever become predictable or interchangable. One of the most exciting bands our scene has to offer nowadays."

The Foreshadowing Added To Summer Breeze Lineup
The organizers of the upcoming Summer Breeze 2012 festival have issued the following update about confirming new acts:
"Italy is not exactly a hotbed for dark doom metal. Fortunately enough, there are always exceptions to confirm the rule. With the three albums they have released so far, The Foreshadowing have provided a master class in gloom and doom. Hailing from Rome, the band prove that it is indeed possible to write great atmospheric songs without falling into excessive pathos and kitsch. Especially singer Marco Benevento's clear, ear-piercing vocals take the group's material to a level which is only populated by bands such as Katatonia, My Dying Bride, early Anathema and even Opeth. Don't miss this black pearl of darkness! You will hardly experience anything bigger, darker and more epic at Summer Breeze 2012!
"Breakdowns aren't exactly the most innovative element in metal nowadays... However, if you use them with such conviction and vehemence as Bleed From Within, even the most athletically challenged of metalheads should soon mutate into pit fighter number one. The UK band have two albums out which should appeal to fans of As I Lay Dying, Bring Me The Horizon and Parkway Drive, while at times Bleed From Within are even more melodic than the aforementioned bands, only to dive into a brutal breakdown the very next second. All fans of metalcore and deathcore should highlight this band in their personal running order, as this is the perfect stuff for all of them!"
The festival is set to take place from August 16th - 18th, will full details available at this location. The currently announced bill is as follows: More...

Glorior Belli Reveals New Album Details
French black metallers Glorior Belli have revealed the cover art and track listing for their new album "The Great Southern Darkness," which is to be released in North America on September 27th, 2011.
Commented the band on the new release: “The Great Southern Darkness has been recorded over a few months period and is comprised of 11 tracks that magnify all the best elements of Glorior Belli in a twisted unique way again; a tremendous journey through dark deserts and evil swamps with Lucifer as a personal guide. It’s also dangerously violent and fast, yet at the same time really dark with all the Americana/stoner/blues elements that we cherish. Though often warm and almost inviting, the allure of Glorior Belli's bidding is revealed by a vicious duplicity; you will find comfort here, but at an unspeakable toll. The production is clear yet just harsh enough to bring a warm, fuzzy and completely unique sound you won’t find in any other modern recordings. So load up your haversack and hit the dusty road!”
