Grand Magus Recruits New Drummer
Swedish riff-lord, Grand Magus, has announced the departure of drummer Sebastian "Seb" Sippola, who has left the band for personal reasons. The band will replace Sippola with Ludwig “Ludde” Witt (Spiritual Beggars, Firebird, Shining) in the wake of the recording process of the band’s upcoming release, "The Hunt."
Commented Witt, “I'm very happy to announce that I, Ludwig Witt, am the new drummer of Grand Magus. I've known [guitarist/vocalist] JB for over ten years and I've been a fan of Grand Magus since day one, so it's great to be on board. At the moment I'm learning all the classic Grand Magus songs and I get a huge buzz from playing along to songs like ‘Kingslayer’ and ‘Like The Oar Strikes The Water’ so I can't wait to get out and play the stuff live together with the new stuff from our new album, The Hunt. See you on the road.”
Sippola leaves Grand Magus on good terms, and says he’s excited to hear The Hunt once it’s completed. “It took a load off my mind that Ludwig was chosen because he is a friend of mine,” said Sippola. “By the way, honestly and objective: In my opinion Ludwig is the best replacement for me because he already knows? JB and Fox [bass] and he exactly knows which demands the drumming at Grand Magus will make on him. They will be a great team and I'm really looking forward to see them live ?- though I have no idea, how my reaction will be in this situation.” More...

Grand Magus Unveils Album Artwork For New LP
Swedish metal band Grand Magus revealed the album artwork for the band's forthcoming sixth full length LP "The Hunt." The album is set for release on May 25, 2012 through Nuclear Blast Records. The artwork was created by artist Arik Roper, who also created the artwork for the "Iron Will" album (2008).
Guitarist/vocalist JB Christoffersson commented on the cover:
"Arik Roper is a super-talented artist and we've had the pleasure of working with him before when he did the cover art for our album Iron Will. This time around with the overall feel and yrical themes of our new album THE HUNT, Arik was the perfect choice once again. We basicallly just gave him the title and he created one of the most haunting and suggestive images ever seen. He totally nailed what the album is all about. To say we are pleased is a gigantic understatement! This piece of art will stand the test of time and become classic."
Grand Magus Signs To Nuclear Blast
Swedish heavy metal trio Grand Magus has announced that the band has signed a new record deal with German based label, Nuclear Blast Records, which will release the group's new album, "The Hunt" this Spring. Frontman Janne "JB" Christoffersson said about the signing:
"Grand Magus have finally found their hailing port – we’ve wrapped up a deal with the mighty Heavy Metal label Nuclear Blast. By this, a new chapter will be opened, both in our band and in metal history. With The Hunt we will consequently keep on marching down the metallic path we’ve started to pursue over the course of the past years. Be prepared to be lined up in our sights from the end of May on, when The Hunt will strike! FUCK THE WORLD!"
Nuclear Blast label manager Andy Siry added: "We’re delighted to welcome Grand Magus to the Nuclear Blast family. These guys class among the best today’s Heavy Metal scene has to offer, though Grand Magus are MUCH more than just that. Both live and on their albums, Grand Magus are terrific, plus they indicate a continuous development. This is why we’re happy to turn over a new leaf in the history of band and label."

The official announcement reads:
"GRAND MAGUS on tour in January 2012 w/ BULLET, STEELWING, SKULL FIST & VANDERBUYST
"The year 2012 starts right off with a real sensational tour: GRAND MAGUS! These stoner-riff-metal kings from Sweden, who put themselves on the throne of several genres with their latest effort 'Hammer of the North,' will be playing Germany, Belgium, France, Holland and Switzerland. Riffs to bow down to! GRAND MAGUS not only kill on record but also on stage. Watch out for a massive wall of sounds, which will blow you away!
"With them on tour will be their fellow countrymen BULLET and STEELWING. BULLET, who just recently signed a deal with Nuclear Blast, are considered to be one of the high hopes of the dirty, fresh and new Hard-Rock wave. STEELWING will amaze you with their guitar playing a la Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, a real eyecatcher onstage and definitely one of the new young crusaders of heavy metal! They will be releasing their brand new album for the tour and live they are in best shape after being on tour with bands such as Blind Guardian, Accept and Sabaton!
"The line-up is completed by the positively insane SKULL FIST from Canada, who were already on tour with BULLET this year and also played the Power of Metal tour just a while ago. Old-school metal which couldn´t be more authentic and real! Their current longplayer „Head öf the Pack“ is out now and was highly acclaimed by both press and fans.
"Dutch VANDERBUYST were a true phenomenon in the underground-rock scene for some time and have now surfaced to take your souls! Live one mighty combo and a killer openening band for a killer tour!
" 'Frost and fire! How much metal can you take? Delivering swedish steel with an iron fist in Germany, Switzerland, Holland, France and Belgium. The Magus is thrilled to have our brothers from Bullet with us on this venture and we promise that no prisoners will be taken!' GRAND MAGUS
" 'We are absolutely stoked to hit the road again after the recordings of our second album, and we couldn't ask for a better line-up for this tour - it's gonna be a true heavy metal assault on the senses! We will of course play some of the classics from our first album but we'll also play a couple of new songs for all you metal marauders to raise your fists and scream along to!' STEELWING
" 'The re-fistening!' SKULL FIST

Grand Magus Drummer Hospitalised
Swedish heavy metal outfit Grand Magus has announced that the band has been forced to cancel a planned European tour with Grave Digger, after drummer Sebastian was hospitalized with blood clots in his leg. A message from the band reads as follows:
"It is with deep sadness we deliver the the news that Grand Magus drummer Sebastian has been afflicted with deep vein thrombosis - blood clots in the deep veins of the legs. The immediate effect of this is that he can't play at all because of the pain and swelling. However, this is a serious condition that must be treated immediately to avoid that the clots travels to the lungs. He's in hospital at the moment and will initially be treated via injections and pills with anti-coagulation medicine. For the duration of the treatment he'll have to be checked daily at the hospital. Anti-coagulation medicine also has dangerous side effects, most obvious that bleeding or blows to the body must be avoided at all costs, since the blood won't stop flowing. In the case of internal bleeding it could be lethal.
"Grand Magus wish to extend their deepest apologies to all who were looking forward to bang their heads to Magus during this european tour, and also to Grave Digger. This is a terrible situation, but really a case of Force Majeure and not something that can be solved in any other way due to the circumstances."
