Grand Magus Shares "The Wheel Of Pain" Lyric Video
Today, battle-hardened heavy metal warriors Grand Magus released "The Wheel Of Pain," the second single from their upcoming tenth studio album, "Sunraven."
"Sunraven" will be released on October 18th through Nuclear Blast Records, and conceptually deals with the legendary poem Beowulf, an ancient tale of epic proportions about heroes and monsters, honour and bravery, victory and defeat. In short, themes that have always played an important role in the lyrical concept of Grand Magus.
JB (vocals & guitar) comments:
"The album is about Beowulf and Grendel. In essence, Sunraven is Beowulf, and that’s my own invention. But some of the songs are written about and from the perspective of Beowulf, and some of the songs are written about and from the perspective of Grendel, the monster he faces in Denmark. That kind of steered me and carried me through the lyrical process this time. I’ve never done anything like this before. I’ve always been fascinated by that tale. These myths and legends are about all the basic things that we sing about – life, death, glory, dishonour, love, hate, overcoming difficulties, facing impossible opposition and so on." More...

Grand Magus Begins Work On New Album
Swedish riff lords Grand Magus are currently working on the follow up to their highly acclaimed 2016 album Sword Songs. The band have already ensconced themselves at Sweetspot Studio in Sweden to kick off the recording process with producer Staffan Karlsson (Arch Enemy Firewind, Spiritual Beggars).
Singer/guitar player JB states:
"The Magus is back in the studio to record the ninth album. It’s been a very special process this time. We decided to let go of the current philosophy to record drums first and then bass and then guitar etc. This time we met up, jammed and created together during the last six months with the goal to record basic tracks live. That basically means the thing we do every time we play live. When we do that, we play together. It’s music after all, not a science project. This led us to use the studio you see in the video. We recorded take by take (usually first takes, haha) until the groove, feel and violence was right. Now we will start with the overdubs, solos and vocals. We are chuffed and we think you will be too. Metal victory!"
Check out the first studio trailer below and get more info about the recordings. More...

Amon Amarth Unleash Ragnarok In London
It's becoming more common in the modern age for established bands to tour together, be it as part of a package tour, or as a co-headlining trek. These can create memories for a lifetime, or, as past tours between the likes of Metallica & Guns N Roses and Rob Zombie & Marilyn Manson have shown, an ego clash which could be a disaster. However, the combination of Amon Amarth, Testament and Grand Magus, promised from it's very announcement to be nothing short of a triumph. The concert featured here took place at the Roundhouse in Camden, North London, a respected venue and rightfully so. It's highly impressive inside, particular in the stage area and literally every member of staff I spoke to were very friendly and helpful, making it one of the most welcoming venues in Britain. This tiered rotunda made for an excellent setting for one of the most anticipated European tours of the year.
First to take the stage was Swedish heavy metal outfit, Grand Magus; a trio dedicated to keeping the sound and spirit of traditional heavy metal alive and very successfully too I might add. The three members all possess a great stage which some might say is essential when playing a rather large venue such as the Roundhouse. From the opening notes of, "I, The Jury" from their excellent 2010 album, "Hammer of the North," the band put on a blistering performance, delighting their fans and easily winning over new ones. Despite having a new album, "Sword Songs" to promote, the group only played one song from the record, namely, "Varangian," instead choosing to perform a mix of material from their sixteen year history. All in all, Grand Magus made the very best of their relatively short set and left a lasting impression on all of those who were in attendance. More...

Testament's Eric Peterson comments: “With a heart of steel and rippling distant thunder, we are honoured to board the AA Viking ship and get ready to feast and plunder with them across Europe! Thor's hammering strikes shall lead the way! Skol!”
Poland’s Behemoth will be joining Amon Amarth for dates in Norway, Sweden, Finland & Denmark. Behemoth's Nergal states: “The last and only time we toured with Amon Amarth was over a decade ago when both our bands were conquering North America in a small shitty van.
