Where is "Metal Underground" when the real underground metal fests are happening? Angel Witch's first time in N. America in 20 years @Wings of Metal? Cirith Ungol coming back for Frost & Fire II? Up the Hammers? Defenders of the Old? Keep It True? Not a word about any of this from your so-called "underground" metal gurus. Not one true-blue die-hard in the bunch. Pitiful. Corporate cesspool of sponsorship and freebie payola. "Underground," yeah right...Weak.

I'm laughing so hard right now at the notion of us being a "corporate cesspool." Because there's soooo much corporate money to be made in covering stoner metal bands from Montana and black metal groups from Serbia no one's ever f***ing heard of before. Besides the fact that we have covered some of those festivals you mentioned, if those fests and bands want us to post about them, all they have to do is email us a press release and - almost like magic - it will be posted.

That is magic! A press kit will get you coverage. That's underground! That's initiative! How about some free tickets and CDs , too? Like that time when Satan first came to the States, and no one here covered it, because they weren't comped? You covered "some of those fests" - haha, what year? I don't know who's laughing larder, dude.

Maybe covering Angel Witch's return or Cirith Ungol re-union would have been as consistent with "metal underground" as "stoner bands from Montana and black metal from Serbia no one heard of." Or maybe some of the writers would rather board luxury cruises or mingle at VIP-flavored sponsored fests. All I know is you still list Cirith Ungol as "disbanded," and October was a long time ago.

Why wouldn't it be?
If a drum-cam video from black death industrial band from Croatia gets reported as news, why not Mindless Sinner's North American concert debut, or Mefisto's first show ever? Because no one got a press release? None of the people who attended those shows got a comp passes or press release either, but they came from the world over. Underground word of mouth.

Man, xF! I guess you can't please anybody.

First you have people like the Metal kid with a 3rd testicle (aka \,,/ ,i,, \,,/) complaining there isn't enough coverage of metal festivals. (I guess he missed this article: mu(d0t)com /news/details.cfm?newsid=134399)

Then you have some elitist from Nassau County who thinks it's not important enough.

Personally, I wish I could go to the Metal Days fest. Sounds like a sh|tload of fun!

Honestly, I'm not really sure why George made it a headline. But since its getting way more comments than it would have otherwise, I'll take it :)

Thank you, the link only proves the point: it's all press release copy and paste, and the "news" are solicited. On and in themselves, none of these events have gotten any mention, until that Metal Blade press kit rolled in, and then it was just that: copy and paste. So, once again, that's your independent underground journalism.

n this context, now, is there a difference between a promo/ad and the news? Does it matter? The most important thing in this, of course, are the clicks and the comments...

So, you're upset because we post news that is sent to us? Cool story bro, move along. If Cirith Ungol wants more coverage here about what the band is up to, they can go ahead and email us about it. I do spend a portion of my day out actively searching for news that isn't from labels or PR, but there's not nearly enough hours in the day to cover everything by myself, so obviously press releases are necessary to get the news up. Don't like it? Too damn bad.

Yeah, moving along is a good idea. Awesome excuses, man. There really isn't enough hours in the day to cover something that's not handed to you on a microwave-safe platter.

Excuses? I've taken hours out of every single day to review, conduct interviews, and spread the word via news posts about heavy metal of all stripes for nearly 10 years now - and you have the gall to try to give me sh** because some festival you like couldn't be bothered to let us know what they are up to? You can take that bullsh** and shove it right up your ass.

Do you want a medal for your selfless service? You want a pat on a back? Respect? Don't you get it? This is a thankless job, and, yeah, people will give you sh**. Instead of losing it, maybe see if there are ways to separate yourself from the Blabbermouths of the Web by doing something other than just sharing press kits. As in, "go underground." It's not about like or dislike, it's about what's happening, right? And "underground" coverage should probably be above publicists and labels and agents and promos and VIP passes, it should be about shedding light on obscure sh**, no matter old or new, right?

There's no argument that this could be a laborious task, but, in any case, it shouldn't even be all on you: you got all these "contributors" , who could contribute something other than rehashed press-releases, but hardly do, unless they're comped somehow. Get them off their asses and in the trenches, man: get them to report instead of repost. That's what I'm saying. I'll move along now;)

You don't have the first clue what you are talking about. In the near decade I've been doing this, I've spread the word about literally tens of thousands of completely unknown, underground bands and events, and a decent chunk of that has had nothing to do with press releases (although I completely disagree with utterly ignorant opinion that posting press release news is somehow a negative). You could just scroll through the news and see plenty of posts that didn't come from a publicist. I work hard at this, and I'm tired of being treated like garbage for my efforts, especially by parasites like you who contribute jack sh** to the scene. If you'd messaged me and said something like "Hey, you missed this news important to underground metal fans, here's where you can find info..." I absolutely would have rectified the situation. Instead you went straight into full blown prick mode and decided to take pot shots at me and my staff. f*** that noise. You want to see a real corporate cesspool obsessed with clicks and comments? Go slither off to MetalSucks and spend a day rolling around in the muck there.

Now that's what I call a butthurt tirade. I don't think you have the temperament to be dealing with hostile situations - you just turned into a little whiny b****. Stop being such a thin skin and keep it together.

"Me, me, me. I'm so awesome...my efforts...I'm sick of being disrespected for my titanic contribution for a whole entire decade (so quit, if you're so tired of this thankless titanic labor, but please stop whining about it:)...I created the scene, and you are a parasite..." I hope you feel better about what a hero you are to "the scene," when parasites like me have been building it and financing it with our money when you were still growing your pubes. But that's incidental.

Here's the deal: your great selfless valiant efforts haven't set you apart. You think you're different from Blabbermouth and MetalSucks - you're not. You're just like them, just not as popular. The fact that this spat is racking up the comment count is indicative and sad. Calling others parasites are loud words from a bunch of self-important scene leeches, who think their "writing" and "dedication to The Scene" gives them an elite seating on a Metal Council. Get over yourself, and don't let anyone, especially a complete stranger, rattle your cage. If you believe you're right, act like it. Don't turn into an erratic crybaby. Notice - I may have pushed the right buttons to get you to flip, but there was no hysterics or expletive insults: in this back-and-forth you dropped the bar. Like you guys did with underground metal journalism: instead of a hopeful site, it's just yet another wad of nothing. I think you should go on a reply tirade right now: or you can be smart, and just cut this here. No one wins anything from this, but you're starting to ramble and look hella vulnerable. Or we can keep going, your call.
