The Red Chord Talk About New Album

The Red Chord's upcoming new album "Prey For Eyes" will feature guest appearances from Nate Newton of Converge, John Davy of Job For A Cowboy and Mirai Kawashima of Sigh when it sees a release through Metal Blade on July 24th. Speaking on the title track, band frontman Guy Kozowyk had the following to say:
"Inspired by events where my brother, who is a prison guard, walks in on an inmate doing something ridiculous in his cell. The prisoner won't talk and gets into this dialogue via a notepad. After documenting that he can no longer talk because the devil removed his tongue, my brother checks the cons mouth with his flashlight. When he tells him that his tongue is definitely intact, the inmate replies with the cryptic message "Pray for Eyes."
In other news, the band will be performing across the U.S. this fall as part of the "Metal Blade 25th Anniversary Tour" with Cannibal Corpse and more. Additional info on that trek will be revealed in the coming weeks.

The Red Chord Announces Departure of Guitarist

The Red Chord is looking for a new guitar player as Jonny Fay is leaving the band to focus on work at his recording studio.

The band will be auditioning guitar players during February and March. Tablature files have been prepared for the song, "Black Santa." Those interested should make a video or audio recording of themselves playing the song. According to the group:

"We are looking for someone diverse in their abilities as a guitar player who is willing to be on the road 8-10 months out of the year. Touring experience is a must. Get in touch with us here theredchord@hotmail.com or through our myspace.

Jonny Fay will be contributing to the writing of our next record and recording it with us. We are going to miss having him in the band and we wish him all the best.

In regards to his departure, Fay had this to say: "This was not an easy decision to make. I have loved every second of my time in this band, and I will miss it dearly. However, as long as I have been involved in music my true passion has been recording, and I feel that the time has come for me to give it my undivided attention. I have opened a recording studio in Milford, NH, and will be devoting my time to recording and producing bands and musicians, locally and nationally. This has been an incredible experience, and I will continue to support The Red Chord and help them in any way that I can in the future.

“I want to thank all of the friends I have made along the way, and all the fans that have given us support during my time with the band. Most of all, I want to thank Greg, Mike, Guy and Brad for being great friends and helping make the past year and a half truly amazing. Thanks once more to everyone - no one will be forgotten."

Jonny Fay recently opened Backyard Studios in Milford, NH. To contact him and/or get more information about the studio, you may e-mail him at backyard.studios@hotmail.com or go to myspace.com/backyardstudiosnh.

God Forbid Announce Tour and Plans for 2007

God Forbid have announce that they will be doing a short tour with A Life Once Lost at the end of this month. The tour will include a performance at the Saints and Sinners Festival taking place in Asbury Park, NJ. God Forbid guitarist, Doc Coyle, has posted the following update from the road:

“We are very happy to be home from a great European run. Heaven Shall Burn, Maroon, Cataract, Purified in Blood, A Perfect Murder and Narziss were all great people and excellent bands. Some of my personal highlights on the tour were the last show in Essen (the biggest show and the crowd was rowdy as fuck), Denmark (where we were fortunate enough to play with the legendary Entombed) and Austria (where fuckers just lost their minds).”

“There were plans in place for a U.S. headlining tour to close out the year, but it’s been rescheduled for Jan.- Feb. We want to do at least one more U.S. run before we start working on another album. What better way to come back than to play a long set with the biggest, most elaborate show that God Forbid has ever has done! We should have a concrete announcement in the coming weeks. There hasn't been an American tour since June, so we are raring to go. Speaking of shows, in addition to the Saints and Sinners Festival we have two shows with our good friends in A Life Once Lost and Diecast that same weekend. These will probably be our last shows of the year, so be sure to make it out.”

Confirmed dates with A Life Once Lost are as follows:

October 26 - Poughkeepsie, NY @ The Chance
October 27 - Orono, ME @ Ushuaia
October 29 - Asbury Park, NJ @ Convention Hall

Scumdogs of the Universe, Gwar, Invade NJ

The mighty Scumdogs of the Universe, otherwise known as Gwar, invaded the Starland Ballroom of Sayreville, NJ this past Sunday, October the 15th. This Gwar conquest was the first of Gwar's that my friend and I had witnessed. Before Gwar began their set though, The Red Chord and Municipal Waste had the honors of the opening ceremony.

Municipal Waste started off. I had heard of them through a friend that directed me to their myspace page. From that, I knew that Municipal Waste was a decent band, but after watching them spread their toxic thrash, I must say that I was thoroughly impressed. Municipal Waste’s first two songs were only ok, but after that their intense energy and quality music got me into them. Municipal Waste impressed me at the end of their set by taking out a boogie board and the singer climbed on top of it as the crowd kept it up and he stood up on it and finished out the set on the boogie board, literally crowd surfing. I thought that would be a hard act to follow, but I knew Gwar was going to be able to; they’re intergalactic warriors after all. But before that, The Red Chord came on. More...
