Brutal Assault Festival Band Upddate Announced

Brutal Assault Festival announces another band update for its upcoming 2019 edition. Tells the festival promotion agency:

"Let’s open this mega update with a black metal stormblast! Over seven years, deathlike silence has filled the halls of the world’s biggest black metal forge, whilst powers have been gathering to resurrect the band right in time for their 25th anniversary. And now DIMMU BORGIR have finally returned with a vicious work of art that is their latest album Eonian and they are coming to storm the main stage at Brutal Assault!
Wicked aural filth comes from the islands with GODFLESH, who are highly regarded as one of the pioneers of industrial metal; they took industrial to the next level with their fuse of heavy guitars and mixing it with slow drum loops and effects and their unique approach has spawned several musical styles since their conception.
Brutal Assault will also present a combo of iconic thrashers that need no introduction, ANTHRAX and SACRED REICH will make it to the fest alongside upcoming crossover thrash ministry IRON REAGAN and a staple name of the genre PRONG. More...

The Summer Slaughter Tour At Concord Music Hall

I'll admit that I've been out of the death metal scene for a few years and mostly listening to a lot of already established artists at the expense of new ones. In fact, I haven't been to a Summer Slaughter since 2011. So it was good to see a concert full of artists who I mostly haven't seen yet. Some really impressed me, other didn't. Either way, I wanted to be surprised by hearing artists who I mostly wasn't familiar with.

This year's Summer Slaughter Tour was primarily backed by Sumerian Records (who were also a major backer of Chicago Open Air) as a promotion of Sumerian's upcoming entry into films with American Satan. I'd normally have a problem with the biggest annual heavy metal tour in North America being rendered into a commercial for something completely unrelated but the former bearer of that torch was really just an advertisement for Monster Energy Drink. Sumerian Records Announces 10 Year Tour

Sumerian Records continues to celebrate its 10 year anniversary, announcing the “10 Years In The Black Tour” featuring label artists Asking Alexandria and Born Of Osiris.

I See Stars, After The Burial, Upon a Burning Body and Bad Omens round out the North American tour, which launches on October 25 at Seattle’s Showbox Sodo and wraps up in early December.

“I can’t remember the last time I was this excited for a tour,” Asking Alexandria guitarist Ben Bruce said. “Not only is this our first true North American headlining tour in two years, as well as our first real U.S. headliner with Denis [Stoff] as our vocalist, but this is also a tour celebrating the incredible 10 year journey of Sumerian Records. We couldn’t be more proud to headline such a pivotal tour package and to celebrate the music Sumerian has released. The tour will include our biggest production to date and the first trek out in support of our new album, The Black. This is going to be something incredibly special.”

“To see the celebration of a decade of Sumerian culminate with this tour is a true reflection of the communal spirit and vision that this label was built upon,” said Sumerian Records Founder Ash Avildsen. “Fans will get to see five headliners all go out together, which is very rare these days because of tour politics, egos, money and everything else that gets in the way of giving music lovers an unforgettable line-up. The fact that these five bands are sharing the stage together and still bringing an opening act to kick off the show makes this a truly special tour. I comment them all. Stay tuned for for lots of upcoming announcements about different activities for bands and fans to interact at at these shows that go beyond just watching them perform on stage. Mark my words: This will be the most progressive and interactive tour we have ever done. See you on the road.” More...

After The Burial Posts "Collapse" Video

After The Burial, celebrating chart debuts for new album, "Dig Deep," today releases a video for “Collapse." The nine-song album landed at #1 on the Billboard Top Hard Music and Independent Album charts as well as #18 on the Top Current Album chart and #50 on the Top 200.

The album title is a nod to the circumstances surrounding this album, one that found the five-piece moving on without founding member Justin Lowe after his suicide in July.

“We coped as well as we could have—we still are,” admits singer Anthony Notarmaso. “Losing someone isn’t easy, and we all dealt with it in our own way. I was angry and sad at the same time. I didn’t know how to feel, and it took time to accept that he really was gone. After the dust settled, we got on the phone to see where we stood. To be honest, we thought about giving up. We asked ourselves if it was right to go on without him, or maybe if it was time to start a new band together. In the end, we felt like we couldn’t let what beat him beat us. That would’ve been even more tragic, and we felt like he wouldn’t have wanted us to stop. I know I wouldn’t have.”

“When you think you don’t have anything left in you, you have to rely on that inner strength,” adds guitar player Trent Hafdahl. “That’s where we are as a band. So many things beyond our control went wrong, but we started to dig deep as brothers.”

New album "Dig Deep" was recorded at Graphic Nature Audio in New Jersey with producer Will Putney (The Amity Affliction, Upon A Burning Body). The album is the first where the band partnered with a producer. “We had not tried it before,” explains Hafdahl. “It felt like a fresh idea to do something new. We were still running the show obviously, but he brought a good ear for tone and melody. He encouraged us to explore more. To have that perspective was helpful.” More...
