Skeletonwitch Casts A Spell Under The Dome

It's been something of tumultuous tour for Skeletonwitch and friends this past few weeks. Being joined on the road by German duo Mantar and their compatriots Deathrite, as well as Belgian thrashers Evil Invaders, the tour has hit a few snags including visa issues at the Norwegian border and Mantar vocalist Hanno Klänhardt coming down with a serious illness, forcing the two piece to pull out of the British shows (though I was able to film an interview with drummer Erinç Sakarya, which you can watch here.) Evil Invaders were also unable to join the other bands in the UK, disappointing some fans. However, Skeletonwitch aren't a band to let the odds defeat them and there was no way they were going to let down their fans in the English capital.

Opening the show was Deathrite, from the German city of Dresden. Combining a string of styles including grindcore, thrash and death metal, Deathrite come across as a much faster Obituary, which is no bad thing. Promoting their fourth full length album, "Nightmares Reign," which was released this year through Century Media Records, quintet put on a crushing display of Teutonic heaviness from start to finish. Those in attendance were very receptive to them too and seemed to really enjoy their set, with a few chants of "one more song" being heard at the end. All in all, Deathrite are well worth checking out, either live or on record. More...

“Heavy metal represents individualism in the face of conformity and an escape from reality. Skeletonwitch Recruits New Vocalist

Today the blackened metal outfit Skeletonwitch – which will join Abbath, High On Fire and Tribulation on this year’s Decibel Magazine Tour – officially welcomes Adam Clemans (Wolvhammer) as the band's new vocalist.

Last month, the group recorded a new EP (due to be released this summer) with Clemans at Baltimore’s Developing Nations alongside producer Kevin Bernsten (Magrudergrind, Noisem, Mutilation Rites). A brief teaser of new music can be heard in the below video, in which Clemans discusses how he came to join the band.

“I’m very proud to be a part of the Skeletonwitch amp, and I’m very excited about how the new EP turned out,” says Clemans. “Working with like-minded musicians is always a pleasure, and I’m confident that the new chapter of this band will carry the Skeletonwitch banner properly and proudly.”

Adds guitarist Scott Hedrick, “We are extremely excited to announce Adam as the new singer for Skeletonwitch. He’s a killer vocalist, lyricist, and all-around creative force. Skeletonwitch Demoing New Material

“Cheers everyone! We are proud to announce that we will be a part of the mighty Decibel Tour. They had us at Abbath, then tripled the ante with High on Fire and Tribulation! All three artists are in my personal top tier of heavy music.

"Definitely going to have some embarrassing ‘fan moments’ on this one. Just ask Matt Pike – as an overly excited teenager, I punished him with a game of 20 Questions when I saw them on their first U.S. tour. He still regrets giving me his phone number! New tunes, new singer, new tour, new chapter for Skeletonwitch. Looking forward to seeing you all out on the road.” More...
