Trivium was formed in 2000 in Altamonte Springs Florida - Travis Smith, Matt Heafy and two other band mates met at Travis's house to learn and cover "For Whom the Bell Tolls" for his high school's Battle of the Bands competition. Even though they were inexperienced, they quickly formulated a band - the aggression of Trivium was popular among the high school crowd. Shortly after the Battle of the Bands show Trivium performed in a local music contest, Indiefest, taking 2nd place overall. After a couple local party gigs, Trivium's original singer left the band.

It was decided that Matt would take on the lead vocal duties as well as being the lead & rhythm guitarist and a search was underway for a rhythm guitarist. An old band mate of Travis', Brent Young earned the spot. With the new line up, Trivium played several garage gigs, party gigs, small clubs, and high school level competitions, gaining experience and writing more original songs. Soon, Trivium headed into a local studio to record a three-song demo.

Brent eventually moved to bass after Trivium's bassist departed.

Trivium's fan base began to grow, the band began to receive more local buzz and awards. Carrying a full set of originals, Trivium tore up club after club during the summer, opened for national acts - placed 1st for Battle of the Bands in high school and Matt was awarded The Best Metal Guitarist Award for 2002 presented by The Orlando Metal Awards.

Trivium recorded four more originals for their next demo. After this demo was recorded the musical direction of the band changed to something that the band and critics categorize as Melodic Death Metalcore. After one more 7-song demo EP, LifeForce records from Germany signed the band in May of 2003 and the band released 'Ember To Inferno' before adding second guitarist Corey Beaulieu and joining Roadrunner in April 2004.

Trivium Announces U.K. Tour

American metal outfit Trivium has announced that they will be heading to the United Kingdom next year for a headlining tour. A message from singer/guitarist Matt Heafy states:

“United Kingdom! As we said at Download, the UK was the first place in the world to truly embrace Trivium and make us feel like we had a home away from home on stage. The first several UK headline tours we did back in 2005 and 2006 were destructive, lethal and life-changing experiences we shared together: long sets... long tours... no frills, just our friends, our music and a good metal time. It's been a very long time since we've done a full blown, multi-date headlining UK tour... and man have we missed it. We mentioned at Download that it would be a while till we would return... and 2010 is just about that time. We're coming back with a vengeance and we're bringing some friends and we're playing some of our favorite venues. We hope to see you there!"

Vocalist Trevor Strnad comments, “Hear Ye thrashing metal maniacs! We have returned with our most relentless album yet…sure to penetrate and ravage your virgin ears, "Deflorate!" I feel confident that we have outdone what we achieved with our last album... words cannot express the excitement we all feel about the new material. Now this is fucking Death Metal! The boys at Audiohammer Jason Suecof and Mark Lewis have done it again…the result is one beastly sounding album. Last but certainly not least, prepare yourselves to behold the hair raising shred of Georgia's own Ryan Durell Knight! Special thanks to Tony Koehl for the kickass job on the cover art…feast your eyes and ears on this most unholy of spectacles! The time of Defloration is upon us!” More...

7th Son Changes Name To Taking Dawn

Mike of Las Vegas metal band, 7th Son, has issues the following update:

"Hey everyone. We know many of you have heard that we had to change our name a month back. Its not because we wanted to or because the record label made us. The reason we changed from 7th Son is because there were a couple 7th Sons that have been around longer than we have and unfortunately we could not keep the name due to copyright reasons. It was a bummer at first but after going through hundreds of names we have found one that we are very happy with and it is going to help us in our quest to take over the world. The music is the same and it will still explode those scrotums. Nothing about this fucking band has changed but the name... and a badass new logo. Check it out and start spreading the word that 7th Son is now Taking Dawn. We start our very first tour tomorrow with TRIVIUM and we are ready to fuck shit up! You fuckers rock and we love you all!"
