When everyone likes a band, the converrsation is (usually) short, because everyone agrees, and there's nothing to talk about. When People DONT like a band, then arguments arise, with people on both sides outlining the pro's and cons of each band accused, and the occasional semantic or personal battles that arise when someone crosses a line.
It's bullsh**, but that's how the cookie crumbles. :P

Hey Nikkay - I wouldn't be worried about it, as long as you're just voicing your opinion and not attacking anyone support whomever you want. Trivium just evoke a special kind of hate, because people feel they are an assault on metal itself, rather than just a bad band. Also, Kora eh? I think I've seen them before opening for someone... I live in NZ.

^and if you dont like war or famine, dont pay any attention to those either.
You know what? I hate Murderers. So if I find out somebody murdered someone, I would not report them to the police, because it's none of business right?
Trivium insults me, as it does several others in the metal community. thusly, we feel we need to speak up against it. Understand now?

First off, i just want to make sure you realize that a band getting good chart ratings or making money has nothing to do with whether people should like them, especially me. The music is what matters.
On that note, I've never really been much a fan of trivium. they put on a good live show, but they've never really grabbed me in any way when I listen to their songs. Still, i had nothing against them.
Then I started to notice how blatantly they ripped off metallica's sound. It was annoying, but no bother, that just means I have another reason to ignore them. Let the metallica fans have a new band to gloat over, whatever.
Then came the wave of Atreyu rip-offs, Avenged sevenfold, and Bullet for My Vagina; all bands that claimed ot be metal, but werent, and they were all bands that signaled the beginning of this new Uber-scene kid age that's coming upon us. And Trivium tours with them. So I actually took a look at Trivium fans in general. Whenever I go to see them, it seems like the crowd cant decide whether it wants to be filled with Real metalheads or scene-fags. It's a creepy mix to say the least.
They're the most metal of the scene-bands, but still, they're a scene band. On simple, antagonistic metalhead pride(posers must die, metal up your ass, screw the man and commercialism) I was forced to at least sneer at them in disgust.
Then, more recently, I found out something that sealed the deal and my everlasting hatred for this band. Ever Heard the song by Carcass, "Corporeal Jigsore Quandry"? If you havent, listen to it. then listen to the song by Trivium called "Pull harder on the strings of your martyr". Notice something suspicious? Yep, same song, just different tuning and different lyrics.
When a band steals something from another, it insults me to the highest level. Like Coldplay ripping off Joe Satriani? f***in despicable.
THAT'S why I hate Trivium.

I agree with FAN about raitings and that where a band is on a 'best seller' list should have nothing to do with weather you like a band or not, it should always be first and foremost about the music!
I also thought Trivium sounded a lot like Metallica when I heard them first, but I think with Shogun they have really grown and are trying to define their sound... the tittle track is pretty damn epic.
That being said, its hard to define your own sound when the median age of the band is so young! Their age is a double edged sword... What do you have to say when you're that young? But f*** yeah for making it at such a young age.
I like them, a lot, but its fun to make fun of them too..."Boat Rudder Strange Mountain" anyone?
Cynic - You've seen Kora? I wish I had, my friends brought the CD back from NZ with them and they are my new favorite 'summer' band, just really chill for hanging out at the beach.

I dont understand the point of this video, it doesnt specifically point out anything it just says thank you at the end
FAN: Im pretty sure that Trivium has never toured with A7X or Atreyu and they are touring with Bullet for the first time at Mayhem but they are not on that tour because they are 'buddies' with the bullet guys or share their ideals in music, they are pretty good friends with the Slayer guys.. Trivium and All That Remains were also on a tour together last year... i dont know if you would consider All That Remains in that group as ive heard a few people do, i think ATR and Trivium are both pretty damn good and i would group them together before grouping them with the other mentioned bands

^actaully I specifically remember at least Atreyu and Trivium together on the Family values bill. and they were the heaviest bands on the bill (flyleaf, ugghh).
then again, I'm not altogether concerned with who they tour with. i just made an observation that they draw the same crowds as those bands. It tends to ruin an otherwise good metal crowd as far as I'm concerned. It's like when you bring a band like hatebreed on a metal tour. Sure, there's bound to be plenty of metalheads that like them, but the band brings with it those stupid hardcore dancers, that completely ruin everything if you dont beat the sh** out of them. The trivium crowd is the same way, in that yeah, there are legitamate headbangers out there, but then you get the fans that dont know sh** about music, and think trivium is the greatest band in the universe, which makes them little better than slipknot fans.
However, like I said, that's not even what makes me hate them, it's the fact that they literally stole a song from a metal legend. Go ahead, listen to it. Bullet did the same thing with waking the demon and Slayers song "Spirit in Black". It's disgusting and offensive when a band does that. It's the same reason why I hate Carlos mencia so much. :P

I just looked that up and you are correct, i think that was while they were touring for the crusade which people should hate them for, i think thats an era they would like to forget. They only play one song off that cd max at concerts anymore... I understand what you mean about all that, im just partial to them because they were my first favorite metal band... i think slipknot fans are on a level by themselves when it comes to thinking that they are better than everyone else

IM Zo Br00talz! Me loyal maggot fan! SLipknotz ez mos Br00talz bands everz! lol
I laugh everytime I see those posts on here.
Granted, I think they're latest cd is ok. shogun did mark a revolution in the bands sound, to say the least. Even Heafy said "for the first time, we cant say who we sound like". Now the metalica influence is just that, instead of obsession and hero-worship. I do enjoy the song Down from the Sky quite a bit, and the rest of the songs on the album didnt get on my nerves when I heard them either. They've finally seemed to find a proper balance and mix of the clean vocals and screaming that they had trouble mixing before in my opinion.
Still, not a fan, but I'm not gonna bash anybody who likes them. Both my guitarists are fans, and we're a blackened death-thrash band, so whatever floats you boat y'know?

hmm i respect your opinion. that is true, bands that do rip off other bands do get me p***ed. thats what all these death core bands got me rattled to the core with rage cuz it gets so old so f***ing fast. but ascendancy had some great tunes in thier. ascendancy and gunshot were my fav's. rain was pretty thrashy. crusade was a sh** cd. but they have changed thouroughly. they had no idea what they were doing vocal wise in the crusade. looks like they got some sort of stream going on with their newest cd, so its about time they signify their sound and keep it unique vocal wise also.
