Soulfly Guitarist Speaks On New Album
In a recent interview with MetalAssault.com, Soulfly guitarist Marc Rizzo discussed the bands forthcoming seventh studio album, "Omen" and how writing the record was different from previous albums. An excerpt from the interview reads as follows:
Julia: (New Soulfly album) Omen is scheduled for release on May 25th. What really stands out about this album for you?
Marc: "It's right to the point. There's a real hardcore, punk vibe to the record. Short tunes. This record is kind of different for us and I think the fans are going to like it a lot."
Julia: When you were writing the album did you have it in mind that you wanted short songs, or was that more of an unplanned thing? Did you go into it with specific musical goals in mind?
Marc: "I think Max's goal was to put out a record that seemed a little more to-the-point, a real thrash metal or hardcore vibe. I know he definitely wanted to go in that direction when we started making the record, so I guess in the end it turned out to be like that."

Soulfly Planning To Enter The Studio
Tribal metal group Soulfly will be entering the studio to record their seventh album by December, frontman Max Cavalera has stated. In a recent interview with Fangoria he was asked about how new material is coming along and what the band have planned as far as the next album is concerned. He responded as follows:
"Little by little. Right now we’re just getting some of the ideas together with some of the songs I composed while on tour over the past two years. We’ve got bits and pieces, lot’s of riffs and things, but we’ll begin seriously working on it at the beginning of November when we get off the road. We’ll get right into the studio and start recording.
"Recording will be November and December, so it should be the beginning of next year. That’s about how long it’ll take to get the mixing, mastering, and artwork done. We’re recording in California this time, and it will be mixed in England. Once all the parts are in place we’ll set a release date. It’s still a little bit of time."

Originally the band members--Jasan Radford, lead singer; Mikey Doling, guitarist; Levon Sultanian, guitarist; Marcelo Dias, bass; Roy Mayorga, drums--met while touring together in their previous efforts and decided to get together for a jam session when they returned to Los Angeles.
