This Is Hell Issues Road Report

This is Hell's Rick Jimenez has posted a new road report online through Property of Zack. An excerpt from the band's new tour blog follows:

Well for as good as the last three shows with Unearth were, the first three shows of our summer North American “GREAT AMERCAN THRASH” tour were fucked up. I bet only 1 out of 100 people get where that tour name came from and can appreciate how and why it’s so radical… the others are missing out.

Anyway, first show in northern PA, you know what that means? That’s right, more goddamn traffic. Once we finally arrived at the venue, we met up with Xerxes and bullshitted for a little while like you do with new tourmates, lifted some weights like you do when you’re in This is Hell, and then played the show to a crowd that would have been fine in a small venue but not completely right for the medium/large size one. Those in attendance still had a good time and got down so it was still fun enough. Ever have one of those days where nothing seems comfortable and therefor prohibits you from performing a task properly? That’s how I felt while actually playing. My recently serviced guitar felt fucked, then my strap felt too small, then too big, then the amp sounded weird… whatever. Just a strange feeling. Taking advantage of location, we went to a Wawa and ate away our sorrows before crashing at Scuzz’ parents place in the woods.

This Is Hell Posts European Tour Blog

Rick Jimenez of Long Island act This is Hell has checked in with a European road report through PropertyofZack.com. An excerpt from the tour blog follows:

One of the few things weirder than mainland Europe is the eastern part of mainland Europe… Even the Westwrn part of Eastern Europe. With that said it was nice to get to Austria. We needed to get some supplies and allergy medicine and such before the show so we drove into the city of Vienna and searched for an hour until our UK friend Jamie that’s been filming for a new music video this tour remembered it was some Euro holiday and that’s why everything was closed. How helpful.

Headed to “the arena” to load in, eat Euro rider stuff and get in a sufficient but not preferred workout. Preshow playlist was awesome. The set started off slow and wound up being insane. Best of the 4 times we’ve been to the arena. I think we did 3 encores because they wouldn’t let us off stage. Fuck it I’ll play for as long as people wanna hear shit any goddamn day, I’m not afraid to overdue it. Towards the end each of the rhino guys as well as Jamie the videographer and Dave the driver got caught in a mosh. Wrote some cool shit on the wall next to my bunk for the night and finally got a fucking shower.

This Is Hell Embarking On North American Tour

Long Island's This Is Hell will continue its run of relentless touring this June/July with another round of North American headlining tour-dates, “Great American Thrash,” beginning June 15th in Whitehall, Pa. and wrapping up in Ottawa, Ontario, Can. on July 22nd. The Greenery (Prosthetic Records), Xerxes (No Sleep Records), Waster (Gold Stock Records) and Hollow Earth (Panic Records) will accompany the hard working, veteran four-piece on select dates.

“North American touring in the summer is always difficult due to everyone and their mothers’ band wanting to go out during summer break and hit the festivals,” said guitarist, Rick Jimenez. “So we put together a super diverse package of bands we really like, joining at different times throughout the tour, to keep it fresh.”

This Is Hell just wrapped up a five-week tour last weekend with a performance at the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival in Worcester, Mass. The band is touring in support of its fourth studio album, "Black Mass" (reviewed here), which released in October on Rise Records. You can also check out the music video for the song “Demons” via YouTube. More...

Pit Stories: Losing A Tongue To The Pit

Every week we catch up with metal fans and band members to find their most brutal and memorable pit stories from live shows. This week guitarist Rick Jimenez from This is Hell shares the following recounting of losing half a tongue but still catching the end of the show:

In 2000 I was at an On The Rise (Mike Gallo from Agnostic Front's first band) show. A NJ band called Redline was playing and were covering "Reign in Blood." I was thinking "everyone does the intro and then goes into their own song all the time, whatever," but after the intro they kept going with it and I got extremely psyched. Everyone moshing was about 7 feet and 300 pounds and I was only 19 and about 100 pounds and 4 feet tall so I'm thinking there is no way I'm going to get in on the mosh.

Once the chug breakdown came though I couldn't contain myself anymore so I get out and start doing 2000 NY mosh... about 10 seconds later I'm about 20 feet from where I first started, on the ground, half my tongue on the ground. Mike helped me up and brought me to the bathroom... then someone else came in and handed me the rest of my tongue in a cup of ice. I was driven to the hospital, had my tongue sewed back together and got back to the show in time to see On The Rise. Casualty of the core.

This is Hell released the new album "Black Mass" (reviewed here) earlier this year, and you can check out the band's music by heading over here. Metalunderground.com also spoke with Rick Jimenez last month about the album, with the full interview available at this location.

Check back in next Tuesday as we continue to share more mosh pit stories from metal shows.

Lake Bukkake Added To Metal Suckfest

The Metal Suckfest -- the 2-day, 20-band, MetalSucks-curated metal festival being held at NYC's Gramercy Theater on November 4th and 5th -- has made a last minute addition to its Day 1 roster: NYC pornogrind act Lake Bukkake will open the fest, prior to headliners Municipal Waste, God Forbid, Today is the Day, Howl, Black Tusk, and many more. Metalsucks commented:

"After months and months and months of negotiations — and by 'negotiations,' we mean 'us pestering and begging them constantly' — the group has FINALLY agreed to emerge from their shell to play the opening set on Day 1 of The Metal Suckfest, one week from today, Friday, November 4. The band will play both I Left My Heart…and 1996's Shut Up it’s Good for Your Complexion in their entirety. (The combined running time of both albums is less than fifteen minutes.)

"They also PROMISED us to debut at LEAST two songs from Chinese Bukkakacy, which they have, indeed, been working on for awhile (although apparently it may not be called that anymore — 'The idea seemed pretty funny in 2006, not so much anymore,' the band told us by e-mail)."

This Is Hell Posts "Black Mass" Track-By-Track

Long Island’s This is Hell is set to release "Black Mass" on October 11th, 2011. The band has now teamed up with Altpress.com for a track-by-track breakdown of the album. An excerpt from the album description follows.

“Acid Rain” Too many people go through life making blind assumptions and bold statements based on hearsay and ignorance. I wrote this song about two separate instances that coincided thematically because they were cases of people throwing around words without being informed [or] expecting response. What's more gratifying than a bitter, old has-been shit-talking a group of people for their life choices, or an ignorant asshole adamantly protesting gay-rights and really getting theirs in the end? You push too far, [and] inevitably you're going to get pushed back.

“Black History” The media and politicians all specialize in control. As much as they try to hide it, we have essentially reverted to a caste system. Despite what is projected through figureheads and "icons,” the castes are greatly rooted in race separation. I am extremely happy, appreciative and proud to be an American, but we have an extremely dark history—and we have an extremely dark present—and it is only a matter of time before people realize it and revolt.

“Salt The Earth” This is a song about grudges and revenge, plain and simple. Sometimes a long-since-forgotten foe reemerges to air their grievances to anyone who will listen, in a pathetic attempt to validate their jealousy and moronic attitude. I've become so fed up with this type of bullshit, I figured I'd put an end to it in my mind once and for all by writing about ending the grudge by destroying this person both mentally and physically.
