Housecore Horror Film Festival 2015 Day Three

Day Three of Phil Anselmo’s Housecore Horror Film Festival in San Antonio, Texas started like day two at the Holiday Inn where the film portion of the festival took place. Just like the last two years, I made sure to watch at least one film. It’s difficult to take in a film as there are so many great bands to catch, but having to be over at the hotel for interviews, I figured get there early and catch a film, so I checked the schedule and saw that a showing of Gwar’s home video “Skulhedface” was playing. Don Drakulich, aka Sleazy P. Martini, provided commentary.

Short (the heals he wears as Sleazy really boast his height, not to mention his ten-pound hair piece) and wearing glasses and short brown hair, Drakulich started the film off with a slide show presentation where he talked about how he created many of Gwar’s costumes with the help of other members. In fact, most of the celebrities were his creations. He detailed how most of the characters/props were made with silicon. He also told how the story of how Sleazy P. Martini, Gwar’s “fucking manager,” came to life. There were two Sleazys before him known as Sluggo P. Martini that didn’t work out. Tony Clifton and Jersey cops with disco hair were the inspiration for this character. He lent commentary on “Skulhedface,” a hilarious film based on the music of “This Toilet Earth,” that also starred Jello Biafra and Sabastian Bach. Drakulich left after the presentation and returned in full costume for fans to get autographs and pictures. More...

King Diamond Added to Housecore Horror Film Fest

This November, Philip H. Anselmo's Housecore Horror Fest will celebrate its third year of audio and visual bedlam. Set to commence in San Antonio, Texas at the Aztec Theater (201 E Commerce St.) on November 13th -15th, 2015, the horror-themed film and metal gala promises to be louder, gorier and more bludgeoning than ever before boasting two film-screening rooms, multiple vendors, special artist signings throughout the weekend and what's morphing into one of the most debilitating lineups of the year!

Already stacked with a crushing bill that includes Agoraphobic Nosebleed performing their second show ever, Corrosion Of Conformity featuring Pepper Keenan, Claudio Simonetti's Goblin doing a live score of George Romero's Dawn Of The Dead, Superjoint, Eyehategod, Nails, Crowbar, Dropdead, Autopsy, Poison Idea, and so many others, the gatekeepers of Housecore Horror Fest today welcome the additions of thrash metal icons, Exodus, veteran death metal legion, Incantation, apocalyptic hardcore punk unit, Gasmiasma, atmospheric drone doom duo, Muscle And Marrow and theatrical heavy metal legend King Diamond whose performance will feature 1987 quintessential second full-length, Abigail, in its harrowing entirety! As an added bonus, Gwar's fabled Sleazy P. Martini will also be attending the annual gathering as a special guest!

And the awesome won't stop there. The fest has expanded the range of its grotesqueries, with a second stage located just steps away from the Aztec Theater. The Korova, at 107 E. Martin St. in San Antonio, will play host to even MORE bands throughout the weekend. Stay tuned for additional band announcements for The Korova in the coming weeks.

Comments Anselmo: "I am beyond excited to announce that the mighty King Diamond will be attacking the house on Friday the 13th at the Housecore Horror Festival. All hail the King."

Adds Maryland Deathfest co-founder Ryan Taylor, who's shaping this year's HHF lineup alongside Anselmo: "It's been a lot of fun piecing together this lineup with Philip. It's gonna be a wild one, so get your tickets while you still can!" More...

Ghoul Kicking Off 3-D Tour Dates

The hooded henchmen in Ghoul are fleeing their delightful dungeons of Creepsylvania to pillage your village on this year's Weapons Of Mosh Destruction trek, now in stunning 3-D (glasses not included, swine).

The three-dimensional lashings will initiate tonight, May 15th in Denver, Colorado and spread its chaos and disease through nearly three-dozen cities with an included infiltration of the Maryland Deathfest in Baltimore. Team Ghoul will unite with California grind hooligans, Phobia, and Ohio scumsmiths, Nekrofilth.

Additionally, the masked menaces were recently added to the sixth annual GWAR B-Q in Richmond, Virginia this August. Issues Digestor, lead doer of deviousness:

"Ghoul is on our way to your wretched country to once again scour the baked on scum from the crock pot of civilization. Sadness? Misery? Brutal totalitarian oppression? You're soaking in it! GHOUL is also happy to announce that we will be playing the one and only GWAR B-Q! We look forward to receiving abuse, sexual and otherwise, from our fiendish overlords in GWAR, and sopping up their gore-soaked leavings in our palpitating jaws. Also, we will be playing some songs, time permitting." More...

Ghoul Announces New Tour Dates

Following a short bout of downtime spent harvesting the dead, the masked mutants in Ghoul will return to the States for another round of live debauchery on this year's Weapons Of Mosh Destruction trek, now in astounding 3-D!

The three-dimensional beatings will commence on May 15th in Denver, Colorado and rampage its way through three weeks' worth of dates including a stop at the Maryland Death Fest in Baltimore.

Ghoul will be joined by California grind miscreants, Phobia, and Ohio scumsmiths, Necrofilth. 3-D glasses not included. As a precursor to the fetid festivities, the band will also contaminate the stage of the Rockbar Theater in San Jose, California as part of Kirk Von Hammett's Fear FestEvil alongside Meshuggah, High On Fire, Agnostic Front and more.

Comments Ghoul's Digestor: "Greetings, numbskulls! It is I, Digestor, announcing that Ghoul is once again coming to your wretched country to cleanse it of the gutter trash that litter your streets and our shows. We are joined in this effort by legendary grinders Phobia, and sleaze masters Nekrofilth: two bands that we will no doubt miss after we are forced to murder and eat them at the end of the tour. And this time we are doing it all in 3-D, mainly because it allows us to charge more at the door. So, accept your fate, prostrate yourself in front of the altar of Ghoul, and die by the manifold murderous machinations of Weapons Of Mosh Destruction 3-D!" More...

Skeletonwitch, Ghoul, Black Anvil Slay Austin, TX

Red 7 held the concert in their outside stage, which due to the previous days storms, we were wondering if we would be rained out. As if the gods were fans of this tour, there was no raining on September 20. However, the rain did leave a muggy residue that was heated even further by packed crowd. Being on a Saturday certainly helped nudge area metal heads to get downtown, as did the lineup itself. Ghoul probably brought in the most fans, as evidenced by all the Municipal Waste and other crossover shirts and hats. Skeletonwitch shirts were also in abundance. Black Anvil was a nice complement to Ghoul and Skeletonwitch.

Locals, Sore put the night in motion. Their sludgy sounds added another distinct flavor to the three tour bands who possessed unique styles in their own rights. Fronted by ex-The Roller vocalist Mike Morowitz, Sore’s sound was akin to tearing away a sore from one’s flesh. It was abrasive and loud and divergent in tempo. Stomping doomy grooves saw bodies beginning to warm up. Faster grind seemed too caustic and it was too early in the evening to start a pit. But people took notice. More...

Ghoul To Kick Off New Live Invasion

The masked mutants in Ghoul are preparing to terrorize the U.S. next month on a live intrusion supporting blackened thrash headliners, Skeletonwitch, and black metal tyrants, Black Anvil.

The caravan of chaos will begin September 5th in Chicago and sully nearly two dozen municipalities before coming to a mutinous close on September 24th, 2014 in San Francisco. Says guitarist/vocalist Digestor:

"Greetings, Numbskulls! Once again Ghoul is coming to your rotten country to murder and devour your lard-assed, chicken-fried, imbecilic citizenry! We are currently hiding in empty pickle barrels in the hold of a tramp steamer on its way to one of your American ports. Luckily the pickle barrels have Wi-Fi, so I can not only send out this message, but I can tweet about all the things that enrage me on a daily basis. What an exciting time we live in! Anyhooooo, come out to our shows with the mighty Skeletonwitch and Black Anvil, and kiss your ass goodbye! And as always, live for metal, DIE FOR GHOUL!" More...

Ghoul Announces Vinyl Re-Issue

While the public is still reeling from the barrage of transmissions from ghastly Creepsylvanian outfit Ghoul over recent months, the band has now announced a vinyl manifestation of debut album, "We Came For The Dead!!!"

Initially released in 2002, "We Came For The Dead!!!" delivers a slick, punk-infused style of American goregrind from an unidentified tomb in the depths of Creepsylvania and features the album-closing rendition of Megadeth's "Skull Beneath The Skin."

Tankcrimes is currently embalming the cadaver of "We Came For The Dead!!!" for its public service on September 9th, where the wax edition of the more than thirty-three minute release will be reissued on three disgusting colors of vinyl.

This version will be available in the "More Blood" red edition in a run of 666, the ultra-limited "Torch" pressing in a tri-color yellow/orange/bone scheme, and the Die Hard edition, which bears a "Blood Spill" red inside clear vinyl, foil stamped jacket, flexi postcard and bonus track "We Are Creepsylvanians" by Igvar Shmeltzy and the Turnips. Ghoul To Tour With Skeletonwitch

Hide your children... and your dog. The masked miscreants in Ghoul are coming back to seize your soul and all your worldly possessions on another run of live assaults this Fall.

Slated to commence on September 5th in Chicago, the band will reduce seventeen municipalities to rubble and snicker at the aftermath. Ghoul will be supporting blackened thrash headliners Skeletonwitch and black metal tyrants Black Anvil.

Comments the band from its lair: "Ghoul is very excited to come back to your inbred, bullet-riddled country, and engage in the wholesale slaughter of some of your society's least desirable high school students; that is, if there are any still alive when we get there. To have the honor of doing so with the likes of Skeletonwitch and Black Anvil is really the death icing on the murder cake. Forward into carnage!" More...

Brainsqueeze Festival Trailer Available

In celebration of the second edition of Brainsqueeze Fest, the enablers at Oakland-based Tankcrimes Records, in cooperation with Decibel Magazine, offers up a maniacally side-splitting new teaser video. Check it out below.

Elaborates fest founder/Tankcrimes big cheese Scotty Heath, "The reason it took me four years to have a second Brainsqueeze is because we didn't have a new and better idea for a second commercial, the first one was a fucking phenomenon. Then this great idea came along so I booked the gig. Created by the same team as before of Ross Sewage and Mark Reategui who actually work completely separate from each other. They fucking nailed it."

Set to commence April 18th and 19th at the Oakland Metro and April 20th at Eli's Mile High Club, which will include BBQ and an Andrei Bouzikov art show, the gargantuan Brainsqueeze gala features more than a dozen face-raping acts including Municipal Waste, Final Conflict, Ghoul and Negative Approach. Ghoul Announces "Weapons Of Mosh Destruction" Tour

Ghoul - the hooded hooligans of Creepsylvania - are bursting blood vessels to finally announce the second installment of the Weapons Of Most Destruction Tour.

Set to launch this April, team Ghoul will lay waste to seven unsuspecting metropolises throughout the West Coast alongside hardcore thrash mutant accomplices, Iron Reagan, and experimental punk/hardcore rippers, Occultist.

Following their pillage, the band will spread ghoulish delectables all over Oakland headlining the first night of this year's edition of Brainsqueeze Fest. Full details on the trek are available below.

Proclaims Ghoul from the band's underground headquarters: "Loyal numbskulls, the Weapons Of Mosh Destruction Tour is rearing its ugly head again, and Ghoul is looking forward to burning your towns, raping your pets, and drinking your beer as we unmercifully bombard the West Coast of your United States on our way to the Tankcrimes Brainsqueeze in Oakland, California. In the unlikely event that you are lucky enough to survive the blitzkrieg assault of Iron Reagan and Occultist, you will be decapitated and disemboweled by Ghoul's razor sharp riffs, and after that, our razor sharp razors. All survivors will be brought back to the catacombs in cages, where Ghoul will keep you alive on a cocktail of morphine and energy drinks while we carve away chunks of your flesh to devour while you watch in horror... I may have said too much. Come to the show! Nothing bad will happen to you!" More...

Ghoul Announces 10" EP

In recognition of that holiest of holy days, Record Store Day, the masked mutants in Ghoul are releasing "Hang Ten," a limited edition six-song (mostly) instrumental 10" EP.

Featuring guest vocals from Tony Foresta (Municipal Waste, Iron Reagan) as Henchman #1 and R.A. MacLean (ex-Deadbolt) as Kreeg, alongside Digestor, Cremator, Fermentor, Dissector and The Moron Cavern-Shackled Choir, "Hang Ten" was recorded by Salvador Raya at Earhammer Studios in Oakland (birthing home of Splatterhash, Splatterthrash and Transmission Zero), mastered by Dan Randall at Mammoth Sound Mastering, and sports cover art by Sean Aaberg of Pork Magazine.

Noted Cambridge University musical anthropologist Dr. Mantle Bannister PhD had this to say about this odd assortment of tenebrous tunes: "Why, it's quite remarkable. I've never heard the like. Is it surf? Not quite. Is it metal? Maybe. Is it jazz? No, that's a stupid question, unfit for a real life noted musical anthropologist such as myself. It's from Creepsylvania, you say? Ghastly country. Absolutely crawling with gypsies. Say, old chap, who let you in to my office?"

The album is due out April 19th, and the track listing is as follows:

1. The Midnight Ride of the Cannibals MC
2. Kreeg
3. Sidehackers
4. Hang Ten
5. Blood on the Street
6. It Was a Very Good Year More...
