Brutal Assault adds nine more bands
Discovering new bands is part of the metal festival draw. Today's announcement from the Czech Republic is sure to have at least one band you've never seen or heard before that will become a favorite come August. The new additions to 2020 Brutal Assault include Baest, Birds In Row, Brutus (the Belgium band--not to be confused with the other bands with the same name), Gatecreeper, God Mother, Lost Society, Vitriol, Vola, and Wolves In The Throne Room.
Bæst is one the most exciting live acts in death metal these days. Their performances at Copenhell over the past several years have created many fans.
I'm most interested in seeing Wolves In The Throne Room, but I'm looking forward to getting to know some of these other bands--especially Vola and God Mother--before they hit the stage at Fortress Josefov. More...

God Mother Signs With Party Smasher
Founded in 2012 in Stockholm, God Mother churns out an electrifying sound inspired as much by the grinding speed of Nasum and Rotten Sound as by the almighty weight of the Melvins. The band's 2015 debut "Maktbehov" was hailed by Pitchfork as "an asteroid crash of an album that renders most of its competition extinct."
Consisting of frontman Sebastian August Campbell, guitarist Max Lindstrom, bassist Daniel Noring, and drummer Michael Dahlstrom, God Mother packs hardcore, grind, sludge, and noise into lethal projectiles, fueled by bilingual lyrics denouncing society's ignorance in both Swedish and English.
The band has now caught the eye of none other than Party Smasher Inc. founder and The Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman.
Weinman states: "For some reason, out of all the European countries producing independent punk and heavy music, it was always the bands from Sweden that made the noise even us arrogant pricks in the United States had to notice. To be completely honest, after 20 years of touring the world and playing thousands of shows with thousands of bands, it is hard to impress me. But Sweden has done it again. God Mother is an undeniable force majeure that demands attention like bands did in the old days, by just being that fucking good. Torch, officially passed!"
Drummer Michael Dahlstrom says this about the signing: "We are super excited and proud to be part of the Party Smasher Inc family. Ever since we started talking about signing earlier this year we have felt extremely welcome. We played the Party Smasher showcase at SXSW and we are supporting The Dillinger Escape Plan around Europe this summer. Party Smasher Inc is a place for creativity with a great DIY attitude that we can relate to, and we couldn't be more thrilled about releasing our new album here." More...
