Testament Gets Thrashy in Calgary, AB

There was a lot of buzz around Alberta before Testament unleashed their blistering brand of thrash at the MacEwan Hall Ballroom May 6.

And after their all too short 30-minute set at Monsters of Rock last summer, there were a lot of fans across Alberta awaiting the band's return, this time as headliner.

“After seeing them with absolutely horrible sound & a short set at Monsters Of Rock, it'll be cool to see them with decent sound & a full set,” enthused one Calgary fan before the show. More...

Testament Working On New Material

In an interview with Billboard.com Eric Peterson has revealed that the band has already started planning for a new album. An excerpt from the interview follows:

After unleashing its first album of new material in nine years -- 2008's "The Formation of Damnation" -- Testament guitarist Eric Peterson says the heavy metal group plans to get its next album out significantly quicker.

"We're definitely not going to take as long," Peterson tells Billboard.com, adding that the band already has "a good four, five musical ideas that are pretty kickin'.

"We'll probably start writing a new record when we get back from Japan in late September. We'll probably start looking into recording or at least working on new stuff (in) October, November, December and then see where we're at. If we're ready, we'll start recording in January-February for, like, a June release."

Guitarists Alex Skolnik and Eric Peterson are looking forward to the band’s return. Says Alex: “It was so nice to hear that we have a whole week of July dates in the UK, one of our favourite places with some of the best fans. In earlier years, with the exception of London, we somehow never had the opportunity to do proper tours of the region. Now, it feels we're experiencing a rebirth there and it's good to be able to make up for lost time. Looking forward to a week of great shows in the UK with good friends, witty humor and lots of curries, ales and pasties.” More...

Dragonlord Announces Two California Shows

California black metallers DRAGONLORD have announced two headlining shows coming up. The band is scheduled to perform April 24 in Alameda, CA and April 25 in Fresno, CA.

Frontman Eric Peterson commented on the upcoming shows: “These Dragonlord shows coming up are a rare breed, as we haven’t had much time for the band to play live lately due to my schedule with Testament. It's always a rush to jump into the Dragonlord character, and we've been playing Alameda's ‘Roosters Roadhouse’ a lot lately. It seems to be our new Covenant and home away from home. Also, for the first time, we are bringing our Atmospheric Black Thrash Metal to Fresno's ‘The Crossroads’ for the first time…They'll be all ‘Born to Darkness’!”

DRAGONLORD is the black metal side project of TESTAMENT founder and guitarist Eric Peterson. The shows will be a warm-up for Peterson’s upcoming North American headlining tour with TESTAMENT, which kicks off May 2.

Unearth Comments On Upcoming Tour with Testament

UNEARTH is currently gearing up for their upcoming tour with Testament, which kicks off on May 2nd in Seattle, WA. The band is touring to support their critically acclaimed album, "The March," which hit streets on October 14, 2008 and debuted at #45 on the Billboard Top 200. The upcoming North American tour also features newcomers and label mates Lazarus A.D., rounding out the bill.

Vocalist Trevor Phipps commented on the tour: "I've been a fan of Testament since I was a kid, so it'll be a great time each night for me. It's always fun to play our set, and it'll be awesome to catch Testament after we play. We're gonna have six weeks of good times. It will also be cool to tour with our label mates, Lazarus A.D. They're on their first record with Metal Blade. I heard their album last night, and it had some great shred parts. This whole tour is going to be a shred fest for sure!"

"Being such big fans of Testament, and to see this new appreciation of heavy thrash music, especially with the kids, is really something special," added drummer Derek Kerswill. "Between Testament, us, and Lazarus A.D., it's a cool family of traveling thrash ridiculousness. We're thankful to be out with a band that we're not only fans of, but that slays as hard as they do. It blows my mind that the guys in Testament are in their 40's, and they're throwing down harder than kids in their 20's. We're out there preaching the metal gospel, so the kids better bring a helmet cuz we'll be knocking down walls everywhere we play!"

The tour is being presented by Revolver Magazine, with tickets and VIP packages available now.

Here are the latest tour dates featuring Testament, Unearth and Lazarus A.D.: More...

Forbidden Begins Writing New Material

Guitarist Craig Locicero of the thrash metal band, Forbidden, has issued the following update about his experiences writing new material with new guitarist Steve Smyth (Nevermore, Testament, Dragonlord):

"First off, we've been crazed busy offer the last couple of months! Multiple levels of work and play going on around here. Getting ready for our California dates that start tomorrow at the Key Club in Hollywood and end with a home show Blow-out in San Jose at the Voodoo Lounge. That has turned into the priority for now. Obviously first and foremost Steve Smyth being the 'New Dude' and getting up to speed was important. He and I had been working on Skype a few days a week for the last few months before he finally arrived here from London last week. That prepared Steve to walk in and play the older songs with conviction and purpose." More...

Testament Announces Live Album

Testament has issued the following statement about plans for an upcoming live album:

"For 20 years, the Dynamo Open Air Festival -- originally held in 1986 to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Dynamo rock club in Eindhoven, Holland -- was one of metal's most important annual events, peaking in 1995 when 118,000 fans packed the grounds of an abandoned Dutch military airport to see four dozen acts play on three different stages over three June days.

"In 1987, though, Dynamo was still in its infancy. For that matter, so was the performer who would leave the biggest mark on the event that year -- Bay Area thrashers Testament. After their debut album, "The Legacy," made instant waves worldwide, the group was invited to make their European debut at the second Dynamo festival.

"After a "warm-up" show at the 300-capacity Dynamo club the night before, Testament took the stage on a rainy June 8 and floored the 14,000 fans in attendance with an aggressive, fiery 45-minute set that showcased much of the material on "The Legacy." Five songs from their performance were captured on the EP "Live at Eindhoven," which was issued as a cassette and a 12" LP. However, the band's full set was never released officially -- until now.
