Author Seeking Crowd Funds For Download Fest Book

Author Ian Carroll has launched a crowd funding campaign to release a book about the many bands he has interviewed at the Download festival.

Full details on the campaign and perks for contributing can be found at Kickstarter here. Carroll comments:

"In 2005 I started to write the book of the Donington & Download Festival (including Monsters Of Rock at Milton Keynes).

"I was coming to the end of completing the Official Book of the Reading Festival and saw Donington as the second release in my 'Festival Series' of books, covering my favourite festivals that I attend every year - Donington/Download Festival is the longest running rock festival in the UK, covering all genres from rock to classic rock, Emo to Screamo, Punk to Hardcore, Black Metal to Death Metal and every style in between, plus in the last 5 years the addition of drum & bass and dance - the festival that caters for all.

"I have traveled the length and breadth of England interviewing bands and artists for the book and have had some great times in amongst the hard work. I've also had many phone interviews from Metallica to Testament, Lordi to Staind, Alice Cooper to Queensrÿche and also what was possibly one of the legend Ronnie James Dio's last interviews, prior to cancelling his final UK tour." Mark Workman Releases Book On Tour Managing

Mark Workman has released a new book titled "One For The Road: How To Be A Music Tour Manager," which features a forward by Testament's Alex Skolnick.

The cover can be viewed below, and the following press release was also issued about the book:

"One for the Road: How to Be a Music Tour Manager is the first and only book on music tour management. As the music business continues to go through many dramatic changes, music groups are quickly discovering that in order to build and sustain a successful career they must stay on the road and do as many shows possible each year. Because of this, skilled tour managers for music groups are now needed more than ever.

"In One for the Road: How to Be a Music Tour Manager, author Mark Workman shows you how to become a tour manager for a music group in any genre of music; how to organize a music tour the right way; how to effectively complete one; and how to build your career as a music tour manager into a successful one. Written with an acerbic wit and brutal honesty, Mark Workman pulls no punches in telling you what it’s really like to tour the world with a famous music group.

"Mark Workman has been a successful tour manager and lighting designer in the music business since 1983. His list of past and present clients includes Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer, Testament, Machine Head, Danzig, Mudvayne, Dio, Queens of the Stone Age, Devildriver, Soulfly, Sepultura and many others.

"As a lighting designer, Mark Workman has designed high-impact lighting performances for many music tours, including the infamous Clash of the Titans (Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Testament, Alice In Chains, & Suicidal Tendencies) in 1990/1991 and American Carnage 2010 (Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax & Testament), as well as for many music videos and live DVDs such as Machine Head’s Elegies DVD filmed at Brixton Academy in London, Megadeth’s Rust In Peace Live DVD shot at the Hollywood Palladium, and Testament’s Dark Roots of Thrash Live DVD shot at the Paramount Theater in Huntington, NY.

"Mark Workman's upcoming memoir, Hunger For Hell, will be released in 2014." More...

Aftershock Festival Hosting Battle Of The Bands

The first annual Ernie Ball Aftershock Battle Of The Bands will be held from August 12th -September 6th, 2013. Bands can enter the competition--and fans can vote for their favorite band--at this location.

The grand prize winner of this unsigned band competition will have the opportunity to perform on the Ernie Ball Stage on Sunday, September 15th at Monster Energy’s Aftershock Festival held September 14th and 15th at Discovery Park near downtown Sacramento, CA.

The top 100 “Buzz Rated” bands that sign up for the Ernie Ball Aftershock Battle Of The Bands will be eligible to win. A panel of judges will choose the winner of this global search for the best undiscovered rock band. The winning band will be announced on Monday, September 9th, 2013.

"Buzz Rating" is a proprietary system developed by Ernie Ball that gives a real time snap shot of each band's overall exposure level. The system takes into account both viral reach and real world factors that produce a 1-100 rating system giving a reading on each band's relevance within the industry. “Buzz Rating” also calculates fan votes as an overall percentage of each band’s rating. In order to boost “Buzz Rating,” bands should be sure their profile is complete with a valid link to their public Facebook profile.

Both days featured very different genres, but as always with Tuska, there is truly something for everyone, even if that something is as simple as ice cold cider and a cool breeze on a hot day.
