Testament vocalist Chuck Billy is releasing a new vaporizer pen, in partnership with San Francisco Bay Area-based Lord Vaper Pens, dubbed "The Chief." You can pick yours up at this location.
Those who act early will truly receive special treatment: the first 1,000 buyers of “The Chief” will not only receive an individually numbered vape pen, but each pen will also be autographed by Chuck Billy himself.
“I’m very excited to release 'The Chief' herbal vaporizer from Lord Vaper Pens – we’ve been discussing the potential release of this product for quite some time and I’m glad to say it’s now a reality,” states Chuck Billy. “We’ve actually modified 'The Chief' by turning up the temperature settings higher than what this style of vaporizer typically features. We’ve learned that these new settings are a desirable feature based on feedback from Lord Vaper Pens users. As someone who is in the business of giving music fans what they want – I feel it is important to translate that passion into this venture by listening closely to the consumer.”
Lord Vaper Pens CEO Adam Black adds, “Joining forces to collaborate on a product with Chuck is an honor for me, as I’ve been a long-time friend of his and a fan of Testament. They carry the torch, staying true to their thrash metal style and Chuck is a real Native American warrior, being a cancer survivor and all. He did sweat lodge rituals for treatment… I mean, how fucking dope is that? 'The Chief' Herbal Vaporizer is a tribute to all those fighting the good fight out there.” More...

Our very own Ramón ‘Oscuro’ Martos just unveiled the cover artwork for his upcoming revelatory book "...And Justice For Art: Stories About Heavy Metal Album Covers."
This one-of-a-kind collection of stories recounts all the particulars behind the making of artwork as iconic as Slayer's "Reign In Blood," Morbid Angel's "Blessed Are The Sick," Metallica's "And Justice For All," Black Sabbath’s “13,” Death's "Symbolic," Carcass "Heartwork," Cormorant's "Dwellings,” Mayhem’s “Grand Declaration Of War,” Testament’s “Dark Roots Of Earth,” Opeth’s “Heritage” and many others.
These are told through 100 exclusive interviews with heavy music’s icons like Jeff Walker (Carcass), Charlie Benante (Anthrax), Max Cavalera (Soulfly, Sepultura), Fenriz (Darkthrone), Sebastian Bach (Skid Row), Paul Masvidal (Cynic), Chris Adler (Lamb Of God), David Vincent (Morbid Angel), Travis Ryan (Cattle Decapitation) and more. In addition, it features plenty of revealing commentaries by illustrators such as Michael Whelan, Eliran Kantor, Dan Seagrave, Joe Petagno, Arik Roper and Travis Smith, just to name a few.
“Working on the And Justice for Art book was an amazing experience,” comments illustrator Vertebrae33 — who has previously collaborated with artists like Slayer, Slash, and Soundgarden. “Ramon Oscuro Martos has an unbridled love of Metal art as well as a tremendous amount of passion and vision for his project. As an illustrator, there is nothing better than a vision realized and the satisfaction of the client. I am excited to see Ramon's project come to fruition!”
Martos comments: “Today’s Metal scene is overflowed with illustrators and visual artists; however, just a few posses the ability to create distinctive images, rich in detail, colors, and conceptual depth... That’s the case with Vertebrae33. Since the very beginning he was able to understand that And Justice For Art’s cover needed to be iconic and conceptually related to both Metal and Arts. I believe this book will coherently provide fans with plenty of first-hand information regarding to the creation of many iconic Metal album covers. The artwork created by Vertebrae33 perfectly introduces the reader to that world where music and visuals become one.” More...
Bay Area thrash metal band Exodus today proudly announces the special guests appearing on "Blood In, Blood Out," the band’s tenth studio album due out on October 14th in North America.
Crafting an industrial sound bed on the intro to the album opener “Black 13” is electronic music producer Dan the Automator (Gorrilaz, Mike Patton).
“We ran into each other a couple times,” shares Exodus guitarist & songwriter Gary Holt. “I knew what I wanted to hear and I knew he could do it, and could do it that day. So we sent him a file with the drums and guitars we already had there and just told him to go crazy with it.”
Testament frontman Chuck Billy lends his signature roar to the track “BTK,” one of the first songs recorded by returning vocalist Steve “Zetro” Souza, who recently said, “Chuck and I have known each other forever. We work really well together, we know each other really well. So if I’m doing my vocals and he’s there, I can trust him to go ‘No way Zet, doesn’t sound good like that. Do it like this,’ or ‘Yeah that’s killer.’ If he says it sounds killer, I know it is.”
Original Exodus guitarist Kirk Hammett (Metallica) also contributed a guest solo to “Salt The Wound.”
“This was actually the first time Kirk got to play on an official Exodus release,” states Holt. “He did the early demo, and then joined Metallica and didn’t do anything with us after that. So he was totally gung-ho about it. He came down and ripped out a bunch of takes and we picked the best one and then had a barbecue and drank beer.”
“It felt really casual, really cool – just like it did back in 1980 when we were all just hanging out back in the day,” Hammett confessed to RollingStone.com in July. More...
The first annual Motörhead Motörboat - featuring Megadeth, Motörhead, and Anthrax -will sail from Miami, visiting the ports of Key West, Florida and Cozumel just off Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula for the September 22nd - 26th, 2014 cruise on the Carnival Ecstasy.
The fest will also include Testament, Down, High On Fire, plus Kill Devil Hill, Zakk Wylde, Jim Breuer Band, Danko Jones, Fireball Ministry, and Wilson. Scott’s spoken word performances in support of his upcoming "Swearing Words In Glasgow" CD (out November 13th via Megaforce Records) are an honest look at the insane life that he has led for the last 31 years, the people he’s met, and the events that coincide. After decades-worth of international touring with Anthrax, bumping elbows with illustrious (and sometimes ridiculous) characters all over the media spectrum, and undergoing general “you won’t believe this” experiences, Scott certainly has some hilarious and surprisingly personal stories to share.
Those onboard Motörhead’s Motörboat will also be treated to a screening of the 2010 documentary film "Lemmy," directed by Greg Olliver and Wes Orshoski. In addition, theme nights for Motörhead’s Motörboat are as follows:
Monday, September 22 -- Löud and Hometown Pröud
Motörhead’s Motörboat will have a very diverse and international crowd. Guests are encouraged to be proud of where they come from. Wear a state jersey, don your Nordic horns, paint your face and show your city/state/country pride. More...

In addition to Alex & Josh, a few speakers of note are Vivek Venkatesh (dubbed Professor Death Metal by Decibel magazine) and Jason Netherton of Misery Index (both presenting on Thursday, November 6th in the "Death Metal/Black Metal" category).

Author Ian Carroll has launched a crowd funding campaign to release a book about the many bands he has interviewed at the Download festival.
Full details on the campaign and perks for contributing can be found at Kickstarter here. Carroll comments:
"In 2005 I started to write the book of the Donington & Download Festival (including Monsters Of Rock at Milton Keynes).
"I was coming to the end of completing the Official Book of the Reading Festival and saw Donington as the second release in my 'Festival Series' of books, covering my favourite festivals that I attend every year - Donington/Download Festival is the longest running rock festival in the UK, covering all genres from rock to classic rock, Emo to Screamo, Punk to Hardcore, Black Metal to Death Metal and every style in between, plus in the last 5 years the addition of drum & bass and dance - the festival that caters for all.
"I have traveled the length and breadth of England interviewing bands and artists for the book and have had some great times in amongst the hard work. I've also had many phone interviews from Metallica to Testament, Lordi to Staind, Alice Cooper to Queensrÿche and also what was possibly one of the legend Ronnie James Dio's last interviews, prior to cancelling his final UK tour." Mark Workman has released a new book titled "One For The Road: How To Be A Music Tour Manager," which features a forward by Testament's Alex Skolnick.
The cover can be viewed below, and the following press release was also issued about the book:
"One for the Road: How to Be a Music Tour Manager is the first and only book on music tour management. As the music business continues to go through many dramatic changes, music groups are quickly discovering that in order to build and sustain a successful career they must stay on the road and do as many shows possible each year. Because of this, skilled tour managers for music groups are now needed more than ever.
"In One for the Road: How to Be a Music Tour Manager, author Mark Workman shows you how to become a tour manager for a music group in any genre of music; how to organize a music tour the right way; how to effectively complete one; and how to build your career as a music tour manager into a successful one. Written with an acerbic wit and brutal honesty, Mark Workman pulls no punches in telling you what it’s really like to tour the world with a famous music group.
"Mark Workman has been a successful tour manager and lighting designer in the music business since 1983. His list of past and present clients includes Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer, Testament, Machine Head, Danzig, Mudvayne, Dio, Queens of the Stone Age, Devildriver, Soulfly, Sepultura and many others.
