In an age where heavy metal music cruises with high-profile line-ups are becoming a dime a dozen, it’s about time that true guitar pros, gearheads, theorists and hobbyists have a voyage of their own. Imagine a cruise exclusively planned for guitarists and instrumentalists, featuring performances and personal lessons from some of the greatest guitar gods on the planet.
Wake up – you are not dreaming! Prepare to learn from the masters on what fans have dubbed the “shredders cruise:” the 5-day/4-night Axes & Anchors cruise aboard the Carnival Victory, departing from Miami, FL on February 20th, stopping in Key West, FL and Nassau, Bahamas, and docking back in Miami on February 24th.
Witness blazing performances and take lessons directly from world-class rock and metal guitarists including Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Osbourne, Black Label Society), Yngwie Malmsteen, Michael Schenker (Scorpions, UFO, MSG), Alex Skolnick (Testament, Trans-Siberian Orchestra), Tracii Guns (Guns N’ Roses, LA Guns), Dario Lorina (Black Label Society, Lizzy Borden), and more, all while sailing the high seas and visiting exotic locales.
Passengers can look forward to more than 40 performances, about a dozen free guitar workshops, as well as games and mingling with guitar gods, and more. Alex Skolnick comments: “For generations now, the guitar has remained a source of creativity and symbol of coolness, defying strange musical trends, poor economic forecasts and more, all the while providing a sonic backdrop to good times and bad. I consider it a great honor to be joining Yngwie, Zakk and many other great players as part of Axes & Anchors the very first cruise built around the guitar.”
“This cruise will surely appeal to guitar players who want to take their skills to the next level in this really fun, unique, and immersive setting,” said Ann Squire, co-owner of Axes & Anchors, “Passengers will get to meet their idols and learn from them in between stops at exotic beaches and on-board parties. All of the performers are bringing full bands, and we will be adding some iconic bands to our lineup as well, but as our name implies, the focus now is on guitar-dominated rock.” More...

Testament vocalist Chuck Billy is releasing a new vaporizer pen, in partnership with San Francisco Bay Area-based Lord Vaper Pens, dubbed "The Chief." You can pick yours up at this location.
Those who act early will truly receive special treatment: the first 1,000 buyers of “The Chief” will not only receive an individually numbered vape pen, but each pen will also be autographed by Chuck Billy himself.
“I’m very excited to release 'The Chief' herbal vaporizer from Lord Vaper Pens – we’ve been discussing the potential release of this product for quite some time and I’m glad to say it’s now a reality,” states Chuck Billy. “We’ve actually modified 'The Chief' by turning up the temperature settings higher than what this style of vaporizer typically features. We’ve learned that these new settings are a desirable feature based on feedback from Lord Vaper Pens users. As someone who is in the business of giving music fans what they want – I feel it is important to translate that passion into this venture by listening closely to the consumer.”
Lord Vaper Pens CEO Adam Black adds, “Joining forces to collaborate on a product with Chuck is an honor for me, as I’ve been a long-time friend of his and a fan of Testament. They carry the torch, staying true to their thrash metal style and Chuck is a real Native American warrior, being a cancer survivor and all. He did sweat lodge rituals for treatment… I mean, how fucking dope is that? 'The Chief' Herbal Vaporizer is a tribute to all those fighting the good fight out there.” More...

Our very own Ramón ‘Oscuro’ Martos just unveiled the cover artwork for his upcoming revelatory book "...And Justice For Art: Stories About Heavy Metal Album Covers."
This one-of-a-kind collection of stories recounts all the particulars behind the making of artwork as iconic as Slayer's "Reign In Blood," Morbid Angel's "Blessed Are The Sick," Metallica's "And Justice For All," Black Sabbath’s “13,” Death's "Symbolic," Carcass "Heartwork," Cormorant's "Dwellings,” Mayhem’s “Grand Declaration Of War,” Testament’s “Dark Roots Of Earth,” Opeth’s “Heritage” and many others.
These are told through 100 exclusive interviews with heavy music’s icons like Jeff Walker (Carcass), Charlie Benante (Anthrax), Max Cavalera (Soulfly, Sepultura), Fenriz (Darkthrone), Sebastian Bach (Skid Row), Paul Masvidal (Cynic), Chris Adler (Lamb Of God), David Vincent (Morbid Angel), Travis Ryan (Cattle Decapitation) and more. In addition, it features plenty of revealing commentaries by illustrators such as Michael Whelan, Eliran Kantor, Dan Seagrave, Joe Petagno, Arik Roper and Travis Smith, just to name a few.
“Working on the And Justice for Art book was an amazing experience,” comments illustrator Vertebrae33 — who has previously collaborated with artists like Slayer, Slash, and Soundgarden. “Ramon Oscuro Martos has an unbridled love of Metal art as well as a tremendous amount of passion and vision for his project. As an illustrator, there is nothing better than a vision realized and the satisfaction of the client. I am excited to see Ramon's project come to fruition!”
Martos comments: “Today’s Metal scene is overflowed with illustrators and visual artists; however, just a few posses the ability to create distinctive images, rich in detail, colors, and conceptual depth... That’s the case with Vertebrae33. Since the very beginning he was able to understand that And Justice For Art’s cover needed to be iconic and conceptually related to both Metal and Arts. I believe this book will coherently provide fans with plenty of first-hand information regarding to the creation of many iconic Metal album covers. The artwork created by Vertebrae33 perfectly introduces the reader to that world where music and visuals become one.” More...
Bay Area thrash metal band Exodus today proudly announces the special guests appearing on "Blood In, Blood Out," the band’s tenth studio album due out on October 14th in North America.
Crafting an industrial sound bed on the intro to the album opener “Black 13” is electronic music producer Dan the Automator (Gorrilaz, Mike Patton).
“We ran into each other a couple times,” shares Exodus guitarist & songwriter Gary Holt. “I knew what I wanted to hear and I knew he could do it, and could do it that day. So we sent him a file with the drums and guitars we already had there and just told him to go crazy with it.”
Testament frontman Chuck Billy lends his signature roar to the track “BTK,” one of the first songs recorded by returning vocalist Steve “Zetro” Souza, who recently said, “Chuck and I have known each other forever. We work really well together, we know each other really well. So if I’m doing my vocals and he’s there, I can trust him to go ‘No way Zet, doesn’t sound good like that. Do it like this,’ or ‘Yeah that’s killer.’ If he says it sounds killer, I know it is.”
Original Exodus guitarist Kirk Hammett (Metallica) also contributed a guest solo to “Salt The Wound.”
“This was actually the first time Kirk got to play on an official Exodus release,” states Holt. “He did the early demo, and then joined Metallica and didn’t do anything with us after that. So he was totally gung-ho about it. He came down and ripped out a bunch of takes and we picked the best one and then had a barbecue and drank beer.”
“It felt really casual, really cool – just like it did back in 1980 when we were all just hanging out back in the day,” Hammett confessed to RollingStone.com in July. More...
