Just Before Dawn Premieres New Song
Swedish death metal band Just Before Dawn premieres a new song entitled "A Tribute (We Will Remember Them)", taken from an upcoming new album. "A Tribute (We Will Remember Them)" is a medley of Bolt Thrower songs.
Bolt Thrower - who on September 14 (the one-year anniversary of the death of Martin ‘Kiddie’ Kearns) announced that the band would be interred with him - has been a significant influence on the band's own music, which has itself been war-themed from the beginning, and this medley does full honor to Bolt Thrower’s legacy.
Check out now "A Tribute (We Will Remember Them)" below - which will active only for 24 hours. More...

Bolt Thrower Breaking Up?
Bolt Thrower drummer Martin Kearns passed way in September of last year, and today the band has released a statement about the anniversary of his death, leading some to speculate Bolt Thrower is breaking up. The group comments:
"On behalf of ourselves and Kiddie’s family, we would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and support over the last 12 months. Together with Kiddie’s family we made the conscious decision to keep his unexpected death a private matter, and to take time out to deal with it all.
"When Kiddie joined us back in 1994, although he was only 17, he instantly improved Bolt Thrower as a live band, and no one was more loyal to, and prouder to be in Bolt Thrower than him.
"We spent over 20 years together, touring the world, with 3 different vocalists, but he was so much more than just a drummer to us. So when we carried his coffin to his final resting place, the Bolt Thrower drummer position was buried with him. He was, and will now forever remain THE Bolt Thrower drummer, our Powerhouse and friend Martin 'Kiddie' Kearns. More...

1985-1995: The Golden Age of Death Metal
Death should be credited with creating death metal, at least the old school style we recognize now, as they birthed the infamous Tampa, Florida sound. Bands such as Autopsy and Obituary—two of the forerunners—would not exist without Death. Death is not the true father of death metal, though. That distinction goes to Possessed. The California Bay Area group not only played a style of brutal, vicious metal, with loads of Satanic imagery, they also coined the term “death metal” on the “Seven Churches” album.
Around 1985, albums similar to “Slowly We Rot” (Obituary) and “Mental Funeral” (Autopsy) simply did not exist. Thrash was the fasted, craziest music around. Of course Possessed has already been mentioned, but the influence of Slayer, who obviously influenced Possessed, can not be under recognized. Where Possessed was different was they used a rougher production. Dark Angel, whose drummer, Gene Hoglan, would go on to be one of the most heralded drummers in the metal biz, certainly showed a good dose of Slayer in their sound. In the beginning, Slayer was nothing more than a faster, nefarious, more solo-oriented Venom protégé. More...

Bolt Thrower Drummer Passes Away
Bolt Thrower has released the following statement about drummer Martin Kearns unexpectedly passing away earlier this week:
"With the heaviest of hearts, and still numb from shock, we have to share the very sad news that on Monday 14th September Bolt Thrower lost our powerhouse drummer, Martin ‘Kiddie’ Kearns.
"After the first rehearsal for our upcoming tour of Australia, Kiddie suddenly felt unwell which continued throughout the night, and the next day he passed away peacefully in his sleep.
"He was a fantastic dad, husband, son, friend, but to us he was always ‘Kiddie’, the same 17 year old Coventry kid whose drumming style and personality blew us away when he first walked into our rehearsal room 20+ years ago.
"Kiddie enriched our lives, and the Bolt Thrower sound. He leaves a massive hole in the lives of everyone who knew him and will be very sorely missed by many."
Bolt Thrower recently performed a series of Canadian shows (including at the Amnesia Rockfest shown in the footage below) and was scheduled to perform later this month in Australia, with those shows presumably cancelled. More...

Orange Goblin And Winterfylleth To Play Damnation
English stoner rock band Orange Goblin is the latest name to be added to the 10th anniversary Damnation Festival bill.
Orange Gobline will be joined by black metal quartet Winterfylleth and post-punk outfit October File, with both bands airing material from new albums at Leeds University Union on Saturday, November 1st.
The trio of new additions bolster an impressively eclectic line-up which already boasts Bolt Thrower's only U.K. appearance, a Cannibal Corpse headline set and St. Vitus performing "Born Too Late" in full.
Orange Goblin said: "Over the last few years, Damnation has cemented itself into one of the UK's leading metal festivals, so it is a great honour to be asked back to play for a second time.
"It is already a great line up of bands, and we can't wait to be part of it."
Winterfylleth added: "We are proud to announce we will be playing Damnation Festival once again in 2014. The response we had in 2012 was mind blowing and we hope to see you all there once again. Damnation is a festival we always attend as fans regardless of playing and a must for all serious metal fans. We have a new album out a few weeks before the festival, so will be playing some exclusive new material for the first time on the day.”
October File also comments: "We are over the moon to be playing what is becoming one of the most important and special events in the UK. Damnation has worked hard to forge a name that is a must for fans and underground talent."
The line-up for Damnation Festival so far includes: Bolt Thrower, Cannibal Corpse, Saint Vitus, Raging Speedhorn, Orange Goblin, Anaal Nathrakh, Ahab, Revocation, Solstafir, Winterfylleth, H A R K, October File, Bast, Atlantis and Corrupt Moral Altar, with many more bands to be announced across four stages. Morgoth Recording New Album
Morgoth has checked in with the following announcement about recording a new album and gearing up for tour dates:
"We are happy to announce that we will be touring Europe with the mighty Bolt Thrower in September / October. This marks the first proper tour for Morgoth since 1997 and will be a killer package for all of you Death Metal maniacs!
"And yes, the rumours are true….Morgoth is currently in the studio working on new material. We decided to team up with Jörn Michutta at Sound Division Tonstudio in Sundern, Germany for these sessions and the results are sounding seriously heavy.
"The atmosphere and the creativity within the band have been inspiringly good in these past reunion years since 2011, so naturally new ideas started to come up. As consequence, we decided to take some months off from playing shows and properly focus on songwriting.
"We expect to already have a brand-new single out before the tour, so stay tuned for more news and details soon…and see you on tour!" More...

Tuska Open Air Metal Festival 2013: Day 1
Tuska Open Air Metal Festival promised to be an event to remember this year, with huge acts such as King Diamond, Wintersun and Nightwish taking command of the main stage! With finally perfect summer weather and a lineup that challenged many other summer festivals, Friday came with much awaited anticipation!
Many of the bands this year were scheduled at the same time, perhaps the cause of this was that in the past there have always been four stages, but this year there were only three. Only two of these stages allowed media to shoot footage and photos, which led to a massive and unfortunate stress factor to an otherwise phenomenal festival experience. In addition, overcrowded photo pits with unqualified photographers led to an unfortunate decline in coverage from other medias this year. Die hard Tuska fans and Medias still showed up in hordes, and showed why Tuska is still the metal festival to be at in Helsinki! More...

Bolt Thrower Levels Chaos in Tejas
Death metal was one of the hot topics at this year’s Chaos in Tejas festival in Austin, Texas. Although punk rock permeates throughout the festival (The Damned headlined a show on the prior night), the ninth installment promised rare performances from two pioneering acts from England, Benediction and Bolt Thrower. Both bands are touring the States together. Unlike their gigs with Autopsy in California, Benediction and Bolt Thrower played on separate days.
I recall buying a computer desk from the sheet-metal warehouse that the promoters dubbed “E 11 5” and turned into a venue (at least for the festival). Even though the venue was not as cramped at Benediction’s show at Red 7, the sold out crowd’s body heat raised the temp to uncomfortable levels. When the temperature became unbearable, an outdoor vendor area on the grass presented a cool retreat. This area was a good place to talk to the fans including a group from Sweden and an ex-Z Rock disc jockey who informed us one of the members of Dokken was in attendance. More...

MDF Organizers Trying To Book 2 Bolt Thrower Slots
The organisers of the Maryland Deathfest have announced that, due to a surprisingly strong demand for Thursday tickets, many of which were sold to people specifically citing the British band, Bolt Thrower as the main reason, they are attempting to book a second slot for the band over the weekend. A message from the organizers reads as follows:
"Due to the overwhelming demand for Thursday tickets, specifically to see Bolt Thrower, we have contacted the band who are now looking into the possibility of playing a second set at MDF between Friday-Sunday. If a second set happens, we'll let you know very soon, but do keep in mind that it would also be an inside show. The band prefers to play inside, which is why we scheduled them to headline Thursday to begin with. Nobody, including ourselves or Bolt Thrower, expected tickets for Thursday to sell out (in only three days), so we are doing what we can for those of you who missed out on a ticket, and those that have four-day passes will have an opportunity to see them twice."
The festival will take place from May 23rd to 26th in Baltimore, Maryland and will feature the following lineup: More...
