Monstrosity Announces European Tour Dates

The Floridian beast Monstrosity returns to Europe and will have technical death metallers Origin as direct support. Opening up will be Reject The Sickness (Belgium) and Intrepid (Estonia). With an all-encompassing setlist that spans Monstrosity's 30+ year career plus a special "Imperial Doom" set.

Comments Monstrosity's very own Lee Harrison: "We've been primarily focused on recording the new studio album. We wanted to take a break and do some live stuff to let everyone know we are still kicking. I've been working on the new record with guitarist Matt Barnes. Matt has been with the band since 2010 and he has become an important force in what we are doing now. He has really come into his own on this upcoming album and I think people will be blown away when they hear it.

"We have guitarist Justin Walker, who did the 2019 Europe tour and has been playing with us off and on since then. He‘s young and is a team player, so it's nice having him on board. Our original bassist, Mark Van Erp is back in the lineup. People will remember Mark from the Imperial Doom album back when George Corpsegrinder was fronting the band. He's always been a killer bassist and things worked out where it made sense to bring him back in. On vocals, we have been working with Ed Webb, who people may remember from his previous tenure with the band Massacre. Ed has been with us about a year now and it will be good to get out on a full tour and really stretch out with full sets every night.

"As for the tour, we wanted to give everyone a preview of what we have coming up in the future. The new album is turning out great, but there's still a lot of work to be done so we didn't want to wait to get back on tour. It delays the album a little, but it also keeps us in the fan's minds while they're waiting instead of being quiet for too long."

The tour dates are as follows: More...

"Together we are a musical match. We all work together and get along as if Chris has been in the band since it’s inception.

"Cannella has the experience of being a veteran in the industry as well as a guitar clinician across the globe-who lives and loves Metal!

"So please, let’s all welcome Chris Cannella as the official new guitar player of DEICIDE! We want to thank Mark English for stepping in during this transitional period.

Monstrosity's Lee Harrison (drums) comments: "First off, I present to you the master piece of masterpieces in the Monstrosity universe. This album requires a certain justice though and I ask you, as the listener, to properly step up to the task. Don't play this recording on a cheap portable radio or your tiny ear buds. This album was built to be played loud on a killer system. Do yourself that favor, at least for the first few times you play it. I know it's so horribly cliché to say 'Play it Loud', but I can honestly say this album is made for that. Listen to it multiple times, too. These songs are going to 'pop' live, too. Can't wait to bring these songs to the stage. I'm curious to see the opinions. The response by the fans to the teaser clip we posted was super positive, so I'll be so glad when the single is released and the years of hard work finally come to fruition. Hope to see you guys on the road soon and blast it!"

Lee Harrison recorded his drum tracks at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida with veteran metal producer Jason Suecof. A week was spent creating rock solid drum tracks. Guitar and bass tracks were handled at Ascension Sound in Tampa with the vocal tracks being recorded at Obituary's "Redneck Studios" in Gibsonton, Florida. The mix was handled by producer Mark Lewis (Megadeth, etc), and the resulting 2018 album, The Passage Of Existence, was born. 12 tracks of masterfully crafted death metal for the modern era from the standard bearers of extreme art. Monstrosity still stand taller than ever, still delivering their brand of state of the art sonic devastation. More...

Obituary Drummer To Miss European Tour

Obituary drummer Donald Tardy, who has been unable to perform at four of the band's European shows thus far, will not be flying out to complete the trek. A post from Monstrosity/former Malevolent Creation drummer Lee Harrison, who has been filling in for Tardy, reads as follows:

"So tonight will be my 4th show (temporarily) playing drums for the mighty Obituary. Donald had some things going on at home that he needed to be there for. I'm honoured he called me to fill in but it was also pretty stressful having to learn the set in such a short time (3 days notice).

"Wishing Donald all the best and he will be back to his spot after this run so don't worry. I'm just glad I could be there for him and somewhat pull this off. I've got 3 more shows to do and things will be back to normal for me. lol. Tonight we rock Krakow Poland! Come out if you can!!"

Sunday Old School: Monstrosity

There are areas of the world that can always be relied upon to give you great metal. The Bay Area offers some of the best thrash bands of all time, as does New York, which also contains many of history's greatest hardcore bands. Britain has many legends of the game such as Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, in addition to the classic heavy metal sound of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, while a short trip east to Norway showcases many of the most beloved named in black metal. When it comes to death metal, perhaps one place more than any other can lay claim to being synonymous with the genre, the southern American state of Florida, which has given us such bands as Obituary, Morbid Angel and today's featured group, Monstrosity.

Monstrosity began life in Fort Lauderdale in 1990, the brainchild of former Malevolent Creation drummer Lee Harrison and Maryland native George "Corpsegrinder" Fischer. The duo were soon joined by another ex Malevolent Creation member, Jon Rubin and Cynic bassist Mark Van Erp. After slogging it out in the state scene, the band were eventually rewarded with a record deal with German label, Nuclear Blast. The label released the group's debut album, "Imperial Doom" in 1992, for which they were assisted in the recording by another Cynic member, Jason Gobel. The record was considered very successful, selling over forty thousand copies and receiving rave reviews from the metal press, as well as allowing them to tour Europe with Dutch technical death metal band, Pestilence.
