Holy Moses Shares "Cult Of The Machine" Video

2023 marks the final chapter in the long history of Germany’s legendary thrash metal act Holy Moses, celebrated with the bands upcoming new studio album "Invisible Queen" (Release: April 14th, 2023) and a last run of live shows.

Today Holy Moses release their new single including a music video clip for the track "Cult Of The Machine."

Holy Moses Announces Final Album And Tour Dates

2023 will mark the final chapter in the long history of Germany’s legendary Thrash Metal act Holy Moses, celebrated with the bands upcoming new studio album "Invisible Queen" and a last run of live shows. “I joined Holy Moses in December 1981 and that profoundly changed the path I was meant to take in life. Our first album in 1986 was called 'Queen Of Siam' and now to round things off, my final album with Holy Moses in 2023 will carry the title 'Invisible Queen'," reveals vocalist Sabina Classen and adds: "After 42 eventful years and after so many awesome albums, fantastic shows and incredible experiences, the time to write the last chapter of Holy Moses has arrived. And we are pleased to see this happen via Fireflash Records with the release of our 12th studio album 'Invisible Queen.'"

Holy Moses are a household name within the international metal scene. Their multi-faceted thrash metal, front-woman Sabina Classen’s charismatic voice and their unique mix of traditional attitude and experimental evolvement have been instrumental in establishing the band as a well-known and reliable entity since the beginning of their career in the early 1980’s. With classics like "Finished With The Dogs" (1987), "The New Machine Of Liechtenstein" (1989), "World Chaos" (1990) or "Terminal Terror" (1991), Holy Moses wrote metal history.

“Throughout the year 2023 we will be busy promoting "Invisible Queen" and playing a last run of shows with full intensity. We look forward to seeing you join the ride”, comments Sabina Classen, who just finished the recordings of their upcoming and final studio record. "Invisible Queen" is set to be released on April, 14th 2023 via Fireflash Records and distributed worldwide by Warner/ADA.

"Holy Moses have never released standard thrash songs, and we never will," Sabina Classen explains with some pride. "We write songs which we like ourselves and don’t compromise in terms of trends and concessions to wrong expectations. We don’t have to please everybody, we’re our own brand, we have our own sound, which includes the occasional odd beat, technically demanding passages and unusual chord structures as well as interesting lyrics which deal with the dark side of people and their minds."

The bands initial tour dates are as follows: More...

A Day At Leyendas Del Rock

Europe is renowned in the metal world for it's many metal and rock festivals, with particular focus being shed on Germany. However, many other countries are now getting in on the action, with Belgium and the Czech Republic becoming more well known for the Graspop Metal Meeting and Brutal Assault festivals respectively. Spain is also making strides in the field, with such events as Resurrection Fest and the growing reputation of another festival in the south eastern area of the country, Villena to be exact, named Leyendas del Rock.

Having only been able to attend for the Thursday, we arrived on the first full day just in time to catch the final few songs of veteran Danish rockers, D-A-D. Though being unfamiliar with the group, they displayed a frantic energy and a passion to win over as many newcomers as they could, putting in a shift that put plenty of younger bands to shame. Despite catching only a glimpse, I will certainly be checking out more of their catalogue in the near future.

Up next on the second main stage, a system which is becoming used by more festivals across the continent, was British based power metal act, Dragonforce. I'm sure most readers are familiar and plenty will remember trying not to break their fingers playing, "Through the Fire and the Flames" on guitar hero, so there's not much need for an introduction. Although they've been the subject of ridicule and criticism, the band actually carry themselves very well. Stand in frontman Alessio Garavello is great at interacting with the crowd and all members perform with focus and skill. They might not be everyone's cup of tea, but Dragonforce did themselves proud on this day. More...

70,000 Tons Of Metal, Day Two: "The Marathon Day"

I woke around 7am – excited for what was not only the first full day of the cruise…but what I hoped would be the most concerts I’ve ever attended in any single day of my life. It was all mapped out…but the question is – would the pool deck be ready?

I headed up to Deck 12 to assess the situation…and once I made it to the yellow police tape, I realized – here we go again. In 2015, the high winds at sea forced the crew to abandon building the pool deck stage (the largest at sea) until the morning. It took them until 6pm to get it ready for Soulfly’s set, forcing all other shows to be reworked indoors. This year, the plan going in seemed to be to rework the shows where available – likely at the end of the evening within the venues inside. I recalled my joke to Siegfried Sammer of Visions of Atlantis – “I’ll see you at 10am…IF – and that’s a big IF…the pool deck is ready.” Well, it appears the jinx was on because Visions of Atlantis would be bumped to Saturday. The guard told me that 11:30am was the target time for completion, which is still way better than 2015. More...

Pit Stories: The On-Stage Circle Pit

For this week's Pit Story, we caught up with German metal outfit Holy Moses, which was also covered in our Sunday Old School column last month.

The pit usually takes place apart from the band, but at a festival stop last year the fans had to share the mosh directly with Holy Moses! Vocalist Sabina Classen shares this story of a circle pit breaking out on-stage while the band was still playing:

We had a cool pit story in August 2013 at Oulu Festival in Finland. We already played there a few years before. A Holy Moses tradition is to bring up a few people to the stage for the last song to headbang with us. This seems to be rather unusual there and the Finnish rules are strict. Back then the security was a bit overwhelmed with all the people coming unto the stage. When we showed up this time, the first thing they asked us, was if would do that again. We said “of course!”

At this festival there were special areas a bit further in the back, where people could drink alcohol. It wasn’t allowed in front of the stage. So there were a lot of people rather in the back having a beer and some thirsty people in the front. At the last song we invited, as usual, some people to join us on stage. These people were on fire. They started doing a circle pit on stage. We never had that before. We had to be a bit careful to not get run over, haha. We all had great fun. I think some the guys stole some of our stage beer, but that was OK. We were done anyway and they were not being allowed drinking in front of the stage and they were thirsty.

You can see the on-stage circle pit for yourself via the video below (at about the 50 second mark). Check it out, and let us know about your favorite time at a show that the band and the fans collided for some good old fashioned moshing.

Holy Moses has a new album titled "Redefined Mayhem" out now via SPV/Steamhammer, with the artwork available below the video clip. More...

Sunday Old School: Holy Moses

Germany is a country whose history and legacy of thrash metal is rivalled only by that on the United States. It’s given the world such excellent acts as Kreator, Destruction and Assassin and still has more to uncover. This week, Sunday Old School will look at another of the country’s fastest heavy groups, who helped strike a blow for women’s place in metal music, Holy Moses. The band was formed in the spa town of Aachen, located in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1980 by bass player Ramon Brüssler, guitarist Jochen Fünders and drummer Peter Vonderstein while they were in high school and played their first show only four days after forming, with Fünders handling vocal duties, before that same year, they recorded and released their first demo, "Black Metal Masters." In 1981, the band was to change forever when both Fünders and Vonderstein left the band, with the latter being replaced by Paul Linzenich, a singer known only as "Iggy" and guitarist, Andly Classen.

Just before the year ended, Iggy decided to leave the band and Classen brought in his partner Sabina to be the group’s new singer. They worked on new material until they felt they were ready to perform, debuting their new incarnation in November 1982, before recording several new demos. The demos, such as "Walpurgis Night" and "The Bitch" helped them gain attention in the metal underground, eventually leading to a deal with Aarrg Records, through which they released their debut album, "Queen of Siam" in 1986. They were scheduled to promote the record by opening for American speed metal act, Agent Steel, however drummer Herbert Dreger failed to show up and was fired from the band as a result, with Uli Kusch replacing him. The last founding member of Holy Moses, Ramon Brüssler decided to quit soon afterwards, his place taken by Andre Chapelier. More...
