Roadburn Festival is pleased to kick off the new year with a handful of new confirmations, plus the addition of a fifth stage. Tickets for the 20th edition of the festival are on sale now.
Minsk, Mount Salem, and Worm Ouroboros have been added to the line up at the 013 for Thursday, April 9th. Having previously performed at the 2009 edition of the festival, Minsk return to Roadburn, bringing an atmospheric, meditative ambience, offset by raging thrust. Look out for plenty of canyon-sized riffs, trippy sounding keyboards and enchanting vocals when Mount Salem conjurs a crushing windstorm to blow through Roadburn, whilst Worm Ouroboros will be spinning diaphanous webs of the most delicate chamber doom.
New Orleans heavyweights Goatwhore lead the charge, followed by Germany's Downfall of Gaia, noise-hardcore trio Cortez, and a dual-pronged sludge attack from both Fister and Moloch as the first bands announced for the intimate Cul de Sac venue.
As with the 2014 edition, Roadburn's fifth stage will be at Cul de Sac - a small music café located across from the 013 venue at 48 Heuvel, which is the street lined with bars and restaurants (also affectionately known as “Weirdo Canyon”). Four bands will perform at Cul de Sac on each day of the festival, Thursday - Sunday. Entry to these shows is sure to be in high demand, so attendees are advised to arrive early to secure access.
With regret, the festival's organizers have to announce that Lord Mantis will no longer be performing at Roadburn 2015. The band is unable to make it over to Europe due to personal reasons; as a result the performance at Roadburn and any shows around that will be cancelled. The vacant slot on the line up will be taken by Ohio sludge titans Fistula. More...

Comments Metal Blade recording artists Downfall Of Gaia: "Time runs way too fast! When this tour will hit the road it's almost 9 months ago since we played a show in Europe. Even if some time off of the road was needed - that's way too long! So all of us are pretty happy to be back on the streets and to play some of our favourite European cities together with Der Weg einer Freiheit, one of the most interesting bands out there!" More...

"Excited to share our new piece of music finally with the audience! 2014 was a rather quiet year for us. Due to the fact that all of us are spread over two continents we needed some time off the road to focus on our new record.
"Fortunately the wait is over and we can't wait to play this one live! 'Aeon Unveils The Thrones Of Decay' is a concept album about time and all of its relentless sides and deals with the darker sides of life, the struggles everyone has to fight on a day to day base and the fact that time in its majesty is an unbeatable enemy." Germany sludge act Downfall of Gaia announced the new release "Aeon Unveils the Thrones of Decay," the band's third full length studio release. The album drops on November 11th (North America), November 7th (G/A/S) and November 10th (Rest of Europe) via Metal Blade Records.
Founded in 2008 and having undergone several changes on drums, the quartet is now comprised of Dominik Goncalves dos Reis (guitar and vocals), Peter Wolff (guitar and vocals), Anton Lisovoj (bass and vocals) and Michael Kadnar (drums), who are respectively located in Berlin, Hamburg and even New York City.
Although the group's roots lie within the Crust Punk scene, they are by now associated with a sound that rather corresponds to the impact of an avalanche made from black earth, rock and dirty sludge while their lyrics poetically describe the dark side of being.
In 2014, the band entered '79 Sound Studio in Cologne and started working on new material. The results were mixed at renowned Atomic Garden Studio in the San Francisco Bay Area and mastered in Portland, Oregon, at notorious Audiosiege Studio. Finally, the new masterpiece is completed and ready to ravage eager listeners. Once again, the band has developed a concept. The album addresses probably mankind's most powerful enemy: time, which passes without mercy. Therefore, Downfall of Gaia refrain from any calm moments, let alone pauses, but go full throttle straight away on this new album called "Aeon Unveils The Thrones Of Decay."
The track listing for the new album is:
1. Darkness Inflames These Sapphire Eyes
2. Carved into Shadows
3. Ascending the Throne
4. Of Stillness and Solitude
5. To Carry Myself to the Grave
6. Whispers of Aeon

Downfall of Gaia just finished the recordings for new album "Aeon Unveils the Thrones of Decay," due to be released in the Fall of 2014.
Downfall of Gaia comments: "All of us are pretty satisfied with the result of the new record and we are excited to share this new piece of music with the audience! The writing process itself became a bit more complex just because of the fact that our new drummer Michael Kadnar is living in New York and all of us are based in Germany. But in the end we were able to manage all of this in a good way, hit the studio and recorded our most aggressive sounding record till today.
"Once again we recorded at the '79 Sound Studio with Christoph Scheidel and we couldn't ask for a better guy! Mixing job one more time by Jack Shirley from Atomic Garden and master by Brad Boatright from Audiosiege. Anytime again, guys!
"The recording itself went pretty smooth just besides the annoying fact that all of us became pretty sick in the last few days of the studio and right before our European tour with Toxic Holocaust and Black Tusk, sitting there with a cold, fever and hardly able to talk, everything went just as planned! Definitely a funny pic to see! But for now we are happy to be done with the studio and can't wait to play the new material live!"
Downfall Of Gaia has announced "Aeon Unveils The Thrones Of Decay" as the title for the band's upcoming new album to be released in the fall of 2014.
The band's previous album, "Suffocating in the Swarm of Cranes," was released in October 2012 on Metal Blade Records worldwide. Downfall Of Gaia comments:
"We are about to enter the studio and record the next chapter of Downfall of Gaia, our new full length record 'Aeon Unveils The Thrones Of Decay!' This one will be the first record with Mike Kadnar on drums which brought a complete new dynamic to our our songs and all of us couldn't be more satisfied with the result! 'Aeon Unveils The Thrones Of Decay' will be our most aggressive release till today and we are pretty excited to present our new piece of music to the audience!" More...
Downfall of Gaia has just announced two support tours for June with Toxic Holocaust and Black Tusk. The tours will include dates throughout mainland Europe, including Germany, Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, and more.
Comments Downfall of Gaia: "We are happy to announce our first European tour for 2014! This time we are glad to hit the road with the mighty Toxic Holocaust and Black Tusk, playing Germany and Belgium on our way to Hellfest in Clisson, France! After a little stop at Hellfest it's Black Tusk and us on our own for a few more dates to go. Pretty much looking forward to return to all of those countries this upcoming summer that gave us such a good time on our last European tour!" More...
Downfall of Gaia is happy to have found a new drummer after the departure of former member Hannes. The band comments:
"We are very happy to announce that our good friend Michael Kadnar from New York will be the new face behind the drums of Downfall of Gaia and all of us couldn't be more excited to have him on board!
"We got to know Mike on our last tour through the United States with his other band Black Table and the chemistry just felt right! Around that time we had no idea that we will meet up again so soon! It might sound weird to some people to add a drummer from New York to a band that's based in Germany, but for us it feels like the right and best decision! Plans for 2014 have been made and the flights have been booked! Some amazing stuff is coming up in the next couple of months and we are looking forward to a new chapter! The songwriting for a new record will start in a few weeks and a new record can be expected for later this year!"
Comments Michael Kadnar: "I was fortunate enough to tour the US opening for Downfall of Gaia with my band Black Table in summer 2013. Both bands had really good chemistry and we kept in touch after the tour was over. When I heard that Downfall was looking for a drummer, I emailed Peter and jokingly said 'I'm your guy, fly me out haha.' Our conversation quickly got serious when Peter said the search wasn't going too well and proceeded to ask me if I was interested in being their touring drummer. After the initial shock wore off, I gladly accepted, and after a few more conversations they decided to bring me on as a full time member. I'm very excited and it's an absolute pleasure to have the opportunity to write and perform with these talented Gentlemen!"

More than a year has passed since Downfall of Gaia released Metal Blade debut “Suffocating In The Swarm Of Cranes." After tours of both the U.S. and Europe, Downfall of Gaia has offered the follwing update on the status of the band:
"With more than 100 shows played in 2013, last year was the most intense in the history of this band so far! Three European Tours, a full US Tour, several single shows and festivals! Memories we will keep for a long time.
"We are still remembering those hot days in desert of New Mexico, on the other side those freezing cold nights in St. Petersburg, Russia. Driving down old Route66 (by mistake) or getting arrested at the border in Finland! We are pretty thankful for all the possibilities, adventures and places we were able to discover in the last couple of months, thankful for all of the amazing people we met around the globe and the new friends we made!
"Unfortunately intense touring can also have it's bad and exhausting sides and people start to rethink about priorities in life. We also had our ups and downs and as a result of changing priorities we sadly have to announce that Hannes decided to leave the band and focus on other things in life! We respect his decision but we are also 100% willing to continue with a new drummer!
"We wish him all the best for his future. To keep things short – we are looking for a new drummer! If someone out there is serious about it - just drop us a line via firstname.lastname@example.org and we will figure out the rest!
"Besides all of that, we are still looking forward to 2014 and some great plans that are in the making! Even with all of those circumstances - all planned shows will take place and no show will be cancelled! Feel free to spread the news and the word!"
