So Hideous Streaming Full "Laurestine" Album

One continuous piece of music from start to finish, "Laurestine" is a supremely intense journey in sound, created with the help of a 30-piece orchestra. Through its music and lyrics, the album tells a story of one man's post-mortem odyssey toward an afterlife. Influenced heavily by film scores,

"Laurestine" brings modern classical composition into the realm of metal and hardcore, resulting in a truly "post-metal" experience that is technically awe-inspiring and emotionally ravaging. The new album was recorded by Dean Baltulonis (Lucero, Sick of It All) and by Chris Montgomery (Lily Allen, Mumford & Sons). More...

So Hideous Streaming "My Light"

Invisible Oranges today presents the premiere of "My Light," the first song to be revealed off "Last Poem/First Light," the debut full-length by So Hideous. Listen to the track below.

Invisible Oranges editor Doug Moore writes, "An even blend of hardcore, post-rock, and black metal... Last Poem/First Light sounds tonally huge and powerful, which is important for such melodically delicate music... The softer textures enrich the guitars, rather than overwhelming them."

The following press release was also issued about the band: "From New York City, So Hideous combines intense, blackened hardcore with orchestral elements. The supremely cathartic result lies somewhere between 90s German legends Acme and a John Williams film score. For the debut album, Last Poem/First Light, out October 22nd, an actual orchestra and choir performed live in the studio with the band to help create the majestic songs.

"Last Poem/First Light was recorded and mixed by Dean Baltulonis (Agnostic Front, Lucero) and mastered by Scott Hull (not the Pig Destroyer guitarist but the mastering engineer whose credits include Sting and Lou Reed)." More...

So Hideous Announces New Album

New York City quartet So Hideous (formerly So Hideous, My Love...) announces the October 22nd release of its debut full-length album, "Last Poem/First Light." The following press release was issued about the band:

"Like New York itself, a place of sewer depths and skyscraper heights, So Hideous combines utter extremes and makes them one. On Last Poem/First Light, the band redefines the term 'epic' with a violently beautiful sound, uniting the ugly and the majestic, the anguished and the grandiose.

"On one hand there are rabid vocals leading a torrent of blackened hardcore that evokes the intensity of 90s German legends Acme. On the other hand there are angelic melodies and lush atmospheres recalling The Cure's masterpiece, Disintegration, or the symphonic swells of a John Williams film score. These two sides, equally prominent, coexist in unison, strengthening each other and creating one supremely cathartic sound.

"Last Poem/First Light was recorded and mixed by Dean Baltulonis (Agnostic Front, Lucero) and mastered by Scott Hull (not the Pig Destroyer guitarist but the mastering engineer whose credits include Sting and Lou Reed).

"Six songs, 33 minutes, the album was crafted for maximum sonic impact - drums explode and rich tones haunt with crystal clarity. Most of the orchestral and choral sounds on the album were performed live in the studio by The First Light Orchestra, a New York-based group consisting of ten string players, a tuba, and four vocalists!"

The track listing is as follows:

1. Rising
2. Stabat Mater
3. My Light
4. Rhapsody
5. Last Poem
6. Glory More...

So Hideous, My Love... Announces Release Show

New York post black metal troupe So Hideous, My Love... has announced a record release party on July 25th in Brooklyn. Details are as follows:

When: July 25th, 2011
Where: The Charleston
174 Bedford Ave, Brooklyn NY w/ openers Risk & Toaster
Time: 9:15pm

The party will be in celebration of the band’s recently unleashed "To Clasp A Fallen Wish With Broken Fingers" EP. The performance will also showcase new members: Kevorikian drummer Danny Moncada and bassist Dan Galante. Moncada formerly played for NY death metal outfit Regain The Heart Condemned while Galante comes from Long Island grindcore act Lobster Apocalypse.

Commented guitarist Jack Marshall: “The Charleston show is our record release party and we’re psyched as always to play out live especially after the hardships and turmoil we’ve had to deal with getting this record done. We went through a couple of personnel changes this past year, so this isn’t only a showcase for the new EP but it’s also a chance to introduce everybody to the new lineup. The sound is the same but somewhat heavier and we’ve matured musically and lyrically a lot as a band since our first EP and last live show.”

You can also check out the EP by heading over to the Play The Assassin Records Bandcamp page.

So Hideous, My Love... To Release EP

So Hideous, My Love... will be releasing an EP titled "To Clasp A Fallen Wish With Broken Fingers" through Play the Assassin Records. The band's publicist commented on the EP:

"Lurking beneath the surface of metal underground, NYC’s own So Hideous, My Love... have created a devastating musical hybrid of heart racing proportions. Fusing post rock leanings (Envy, Mono, Godspeed You! Black Emperor) and adventurous black metal (Wolves In The Throne Room, Celeste) with classical beauty (Arvo Part, Beethoven), So Hideous, My Love... lay claim to the appropriately termed buzz moniker 'post-black metal' with their newest offering, To Clasp A Fallen Wish With Broken Fingers.

"Born out of home recordings in the winter of 2008 by composer/guitarists Brandon Cruz and Jack Marshall, So Hideous, My Love... self-released their debut EP, I Balance A Daydream On An Edge Of A Knife, in the Spring of 2010 to an outpouring of love from the heavy music community. To Clasp A Fallen Wish… serves as a companion piece to the band’s first release and showcases a further maturation of engaging daydreams and paralyzing musical nightmares."

Said Cruz of the EP: “The word epic gets thrown around quite a bit online when listeners/press/bloggers/ describe what they hear and for me that’s the greatest compliment. I wrote the songs and the string arrangements to sound urgent, emotive and ‘huge’… a full layered production that was the most destructive and beautiful storm…would’ve used a larger orchestra if possible. For what was trying to be conveyed with the EP, I remember mixing in the studio throughout December and January and watching the trailer for Terrence Malick’s The Tree Of Life on my laptop and thinking, ‘If we could get this record to be the guitar band equivalent of that I could die happy.’”

A limited run (250 copies) of To Clasp A Fallen Wish With Broken Fingers will be available on Snow White or Blood Red 10? vinyl via Play The Assassin Records on June 21st. More...
