"some music was meant to stay underground..."

Ihsahn/Serj Tankian/Devin Townsend Collaboration Track "We Are" Streaming

Remember that extremely unlikely collaboration we reported on back in April? The one that featured Ihsahn (Emperor, Peccatum), Serj Tankian (System of a Down), and Devin Townsend? Well it's now online and available for streaming! Check out "We Are" in the player below.

The single was composed, arranged, programmed, and produced by Ray Holroyd, mixed by Rohan Onraet, and mastered by Ted Jensen. "We Are" is a charity track being released by non-profit label Revolution Harmony, with all proceeds being donated to Buskaid, a charity that provides free music lessons and instruments to children in the townships of South Africa

I don't know what just happened in my ears but it was awesome. Lyrics seemed a little too vague for my liking though. Almost nonsensical, or perhaps I'm not deep enough to understand.

I HAVE TO SAY YES, I DO LIKE IT. I'M NOT REALLY SYMPATHETIC TO THEIR CHARITY THOUGH. THERE ARE SO MANY RIGHT HERE IN AMERICA THAT NEED TO BE HELPED OUT. I THINK MOST PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THAT WHEN PUBLIC SCHOOL BUDGETS ARE STRESSED, MUSIC AND THE ARTS ARE THE FIRST TO GO.

It's like everything I disliked from System of a Down, vague-ass nonsensical buzzword lyrics and Serj jacking off to his own voice, added some cheezeball piano and a lackluster solo. Also, whoever made this video should be shot.

They should have let Ihsahn sing the whole song, his voice has grown leaps and bounds since he first tried singing in Emperor.
The song could have been really ambient and creepy but it goes in too many different directions.

Considering these are three of my favourite musicians on the planet, this is an extremely underwhelming result. Devin doesn't even sing, what the f***?
