Dimmu Borgir Singer Speaks To Metal Exiles

Band Photo: Dimmu Borgir (?)
Dimmu Borgir singer Shagrath spoke with Metal-Exiles.com about the band's Ozzfest appearance, the infamous radio "incident", and more. Here are a few excerpts from the interview:
Metal-Exiles.com: "You guys are currently on Ozzfest, how is that going for you?"
Shagrath: "I think that is going well, it is a great production and we are playing with the big boys now. Great arrangements, stage, catering, showers, back stage rooms, just very professional. Also we only play for thirty minutes so we do not sweat. (laughter) At the same time we are a black metal band so it is very different for us, we are not like the other bands on the bill. We are playing for an audience that is not used to our music so it is strange we see the people in front of the stage sitting down listening to us wondering what the fuck is this."
Metal-Exiles.com: "You guys recently had an incident with a radio station. Can you elaborate on what happened?"
Shagrath: "Well, we went to this radio station and this guy basically kept on talking, asking us questions and answering them for us."
Metal-Exiles.com: "Like how?"
Shagrath: "He was kind of negative from the start, he asked a few questions and we barely had time to answer them before he moved on to the next question. Then he started talking about homosexuality and American politics. Then I was asked something else and I said stupid with some other words so he said we couldn't do this so we were told to leave. As we were walking out he was telling his audience to throw rocks at us while we are onstage playing."
Metal-Exiles.com: "What is next after Ozzfest?"
Shagrath: "We are going home for a long long time. We are going to take time off for a few months, be with family and maybe we will start writing some new material. Nothing will happen for a while, it will be about two years time before we do anymore shows. We feel kind of burned out right now and feel like taking a break."

I seen them at Ozzfest in Columbus, & at Bogarts in Cincy with God Forbid & Bleeding Through. I got to meet Vortex, Galder, & Silenoz at the music shop next door about an hour and a half before the show. Also got my Jackson guitar signed by Galder, Vortex, Silenoz, & Mustis after the show, and some pics with 'em as well. Shagrath had throat problems according to Vortex, and is the reason he never came out to greet the fans. Something about them I never really understood was that all of their albums but Stormblast & Devil's Path have 3 words in the title. Always thought that to be strange.

TWO f***ING YEARS? Man, those c***s have cancelled on coming here TWICE in the last three years, and now they're not coming out again?!?! (There were rumours of them coming out here after the US tour) I mean sh**, when they cancelled earlier this year, Dark Funeral were supposed to replace them, but they cancelled too - the second time that DF has cancelled in the last three years. Is there a bad smell in Australia that the locals aren't aware of?

Australia huh. You ever heard of Avrigus? They're from out there. There were a 2-piece band that played guitars, bass, vox, keys, and drums. They were like an atmospheric doom metal type sound. Sort of like a mix of Summoning and My Dying Bride (Songs of Darkness...) and black doom metallers Forest Stream (slower stuff).

I didn't mean Forest Stream from Australia. Actually I'm thinking that they're from Russia, but not totally sure. Speaking of Russian bands, ever listened to Tvangeste. This band is totally awesome. Can't really think of a sound for them except for the heavier sounds of My Dying Bride, with the Baltic Symphonic Orchestra added in. It's f***ing awesome sh**.

Hey KMADD!!! You heard anything about the rumored Cradle of Filth, Satyricon, Lacuna Coil, Mudvayne, HIMSA, and Bleeding Through tour in the U.S? I noticed that Cradle of Filth (on 2 different websites) has a date in Cincinnati for October 27. All of them bands couldn't possibly be on the bill. I guess it's supposed to be MTV Headbanger's Ball Tour 3 or something. But they don't have Satyricon listed as a headliner but rather Cradle & Mudvayne. Oh well!!! That would be one hell of a show. And GWAR is officially playing in Cincinnati on November 16.

Cryogenic relocated to the US a year or two ago, and are now called 'In The Name Of...' - they apparently have a new album due soonish.
They had two singers in the latter part of their career. Darren 'Sloane' Maloney (the only vocalist they recorded with) joined a local band called Porncaddy who I've not heard or seen. Steve Simmons, his short term replacement I wouldn't have a clue about.
Tvangeste - sounds interesting.
