New Statetrooper Album Delayed
The long-awaited second release from STATETROOPER, featuring Gary Barden of MSG (MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP) fame on vocals, has hit another hold-up in the U.S. Although the record was originally set to be issued on July 26, the album won't actually be in the stores for another couple of weeks. The unanticipated demand in Europe has left the distributors scrambling to press more CDs to meet the needs here and in Europe.
"The Calling", which is being released on CIC Records, the band's own label, follows the re-release of their first album from 1985. When fan pressure pushed the band to re-release it online a few years ago, and then eventually get it in the stores, the band reformed and set to work on this new album. Having each had problems in the past with certain aspects of how things worked, however, the band members decided to take control of their own fates this time around and they are managing themselves as well as running their own label with the help of veteran British publicist Rupert Withers.
"This is a quality problem," admits Withers. "We are still learning a lot as we go, and I'd rather have the problem of having to press more CDs than returns any day."
In addition to Barden, the band consists of guitarist Jeff Summers, drummer Bruce Bisland with Martin Mickels on guitar, Tony O'Hora on bass and occasional appearances by keyboardist Steve Glover. The band hopes to be on a U.S. tour in late 2004/early 2005.
