Philip Anselmo Announces "War of the Gargantuas" Split Release With Warbeast
Pantera, Superjoint Ritual, and Down vocalist Philip Anselmo and Housecore Records thrashers Warbeast recently announced that they will be releasing a new split album entitled "War of the Gargantuas." The split now has an official release date of January 8th, 2013 and will include two songs from each artist.
This album serves as the first release of any solo work by Philip Anselmo during the span of his nearly 30-year legacy. Also, the two Warbeast tracks on the split feature former bassist Alan Bovee before his departure from the band. Since then, Dre Karst has joined on bass.
“This split is a glimpse into the future of both my solo project and ultimate thrash metallers Warbeast. The title of the split is War of The Gargantuas and it is fitting on many levels because of our combined love for the 60's Japanese film of the same name, the power of our combined musical output(s) and our humorous affection that plays out within each of our 'Gargantuan' personalities,” states Philip Anselmo. “Both Warbeast and myself have full length LP's that will be released shortly after this is released, but this split is unique musically. It is a time capsule; a loud pause ‘til we both release our full length products. Enjoy the destruction of music!”
“These two songs we have on War of the Gargantuas were the next level after Krush The Enemy,” states Warbeast guitarist Scott Shelby. “They've been a staple in our set list for the last two years. These songs are a pure demonstration of our unique Texas thrash metal style.”
Warbeast also recently announced the upcoming release of a second full-length album, "Destroy." The album is scheduled to be released in early 2013 via Housecore Records and is currently in the mastering stages. Stay tuned for more information on "Destroy" coming very soon.
The "War of the Gargantuas" lineup is:

Agreed...though I maybe should gotta hear it first...phillip has led a select few pretty blown out projects (superjunk ritual, anyone?) in the past...though, when he NAILS it...well, tough luck to all the pretenders
Also, I don't think the 'Beast would sign up to support any godamned bullsh!t now would they?

See I have seen a lot of split views and hate surrounding SJR but I have no idea why. Half of it seems like Pantera fans who didn't expect any sludge, and the other half seems like elitists who hate Pantera and well, everything about Phil.
I'm actually a pretty big fan of SJR, gets regular spins from me. I could see that if you don't like Phil's drunken ramblings it would just be annoying though. What side do you fall on HR?

Nah Cyn, I like a lot of Phil's music...DOWN is by far my favorite, been listening to them since before Nola came out...Pantera? Yes...fave from them is Cowboys, followed by Trendkill...Vulgar and Far Beyond are solid (and mny folks favorites), and I do like 101 Proof pretty well...actually listened to Reinventing the other day for the first time in about 10 years, and it wasn't QUITE as nasty as I remembered :)
Could be the case with Superjunk...haven't heard em in a long a$$ time. Bought that sh!tty first disc on faith and fvcking winged that slathering garbage out the goddamned window of the truck at a cool 15 mph in the school zone
Perhaps I judged it too harshly? perhaps I will listen again...any strong recommendations, fellers?

Oh golly, is that their best tune?? jeez...I'm sorry brothers, but that sh** is frikken hideous...couple others were even worse, goddamn
Even more terrible than I remembered? possibly... hell, I'd buy that disc all over again, just for the pleasure it would give me to chuck that stale dogsh!t out the window once more :)

Ha, yes brother, indeed....I'm sure I listen to plenty of sh!t that many others would likely deem quite horrid :)
