Slipknot Confirmed As Third Headliner For Download 2013

The organisers of Britain's Download festival have announced that Iowa based act Slipknot has been confirmed as the headlining act for the first day of next year's edition of the festival.
"We are extremely honoured to have been asked once again to headline the Download Festival," said Slipknot’s Clown. "It’s always good to have the church of the Knot, the alter of the Knot, giving the sermon of the Knot to the congregation of the Knot, the culture of the Knot.
"This summer cannot come soon enough. Partake in the imagination or don't bitch."
This follows the news that British heavy metal legends Iron Maiden will be headlining over the weekend, along with German industrial metal veterans, Rammstein. The festival will take place at Donington Park from June 14th - 16th. More details will be revealed as soon as they become available.

How come nobody can say anything bad about Slayer without being ridiculed, or that they like Slipknot without their metal cred being questioned? I grew up loving thrash, Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax and Testament, love them all, just never really liked Slayer. My favorite bands are Machine Head, Dark Tranquillity, and In Flames. Do these count as "real" metal? or only if I say Slayer is the greatest ever and Slipknot sucks?

Zumbi has a point. Making certain classic bands mandatory (e.g., "You're not a true metalhead unless X, Y, and Z albums are in your CD collection") is fine when it's all fun and games, but take it too seriously and you ruin the fun pretty quickly. There's no rule book here. Neither Slayer nor Slipknot have to be for everyone. I, for one, love them both, but the bands Zumbi listed definitely pass the "metal test," so simply disliking Slayer is really no big deal.
We metalheads tend to equivocate. Someone expresses dislike for a certain sacred band, and if he happens to like another band that's cool to hate, we jump all over it and draw comparisons that aren't necessarily there. "You prefer Y over X? Shame on you, poseur." But one's dislike of Slayer and appreciation of Slipknot - or fill in the blanks yourself - may be totally unrelated.

I love Slipknot, Slayer, & I can enjoy small doses of Motorhead.
It's up to you who you enjoy most, I for one loved them when they were in their prime and will vouch they had an insane live show, but suggesting they ever made two of the most legendary metal bands on this planet "look like complete garbage" is just ignorant.
Overkill, if this rule book did exist I'm sure allowing your band members to play on stage would be listed in there. Absolutely ZERO respect for Slipknot until they put that bullsh** to rest, makes me f***ing mad.
