On first listen to the new album im not sure of it, it's a listenable album but it's not the opeth i know and love.
Where are the fast guitar parts, where are the double bass drums, and last but not least where are the growls.
It's good but too different for me.

It is a tough pill to swallow. Opeth have been challenging their fans with every release but this one took the gauntlet throwing to another level. Ackerfeldt's total disregard for Opeth's metal sound in the live setting is a step beyond "the continuing evolution of Opeth". It's a bit of a slap to the face to those who love all aspects of Opeth, including the metal sound that patially bore this band to the limelight.

Fortunately Katatonia's opening. If this was an "evening with" Opeth with a setlist like this 2 and a half hours long, alot of people would leave early im afraid. I saw them a week ago,i regret not finding a good seat in the balcony. Attention spans are certainly challenged, natives get abit restless, and some chose to bail early. I had six months of warning that the new record would be differant and mellow. No warning that thier set list would also be. The three song acoustic part really drags on,for what seems close to an hour. At one point Akerfeldt thanked the crowd for thier energetic response. Seriously.
