"progressive death metal" is a very accurate description for the band's musical sound. It was better than using the band's own description of themselves - which was about half a paragraph long lol There are loads of other progressive death metal bands that are even more out in left field than IWABO haha

No it isn't. For one, it clearly has 10 times the elements of deathcore than death metal. Funnily enough given the name, using "avant-garde" is what most people do when they want to describe a silly mash of genres.

LOL people seem to forget that I don't decide what genre a band is placed in I just refer to the label press release from Century :) But I'm a fan of IWABO, and they certainly have more than enough elements of progressive death metal in their sound. Avant-metal could work to an extent I guess, but IWABO have a little to much structure for that in my opinion.
Check out Unexpect or Sleepytime Gorilla Museum for some amazing avant-metal.

Progressive death metal to me is Cynic,Athiest, the last couple of Death albums, etc. This iwrestleabear stuff sounds prog deathcore to these old school ears. Regardless of what sub genre tag its given,im not really into it. would rather listen to Deaths Human record. Call me out of touch,i dont know.

Ill have to check out Martyr,TAG. Ive heard the name, never the music. I personally feel alot of time gets wasted on specific sub genre classification. The music has to stand on its own at the end of the day imo! And that Montreal death/tech death scene is quite fertile! Montrealers take thier metal seriously! Love that city,a few of my favorite bands alltime reside there! No bullsh** metal scene!

thnx TAG. definitely will check out those bands. sleepytime's been on my list to check out tho. they just got bumped up a little bit now lol dunno if they count, but the arusha accord are pretty damn good too. remind me of sikth.
progressive deathcore is better suiting for them, BUT i think avant-deathcore sound awesome!! lmao
