Former Dream Theater and Avenged Sevenfold drummer Mike Portnoy has announced through his official Twitter page that he is currently working on a new side-project with Symphony X vocalist Russell Allen. Mike Portnoy commented on the new project by saying:
"VERY excited about a new project I'm working on [with] one my [favorite] singers in the world: my bro, Sir Russell Allen. Wait 'till you hear this shit!!!"
In other recent news, Mike Portnoy revealed that he has started work on another new project with guitarist Steve Morse of Deep Purple and multi-instrumentalist Neal Morse (Transatlantic, Spock's Beard) bassist Dave LaRue (Dixie Dregs) and vocalist Casey McPherson of Alpha Rev. To answer the "is how he is going to be referred to for the remainder of his years?" question, the answer is no. But, until he is in an official active band that we can associate him with we do need to have some point of reference for the casual readers who may not be familiar with Mike Portnoy.
