Adam Lambert Covers Metallica's "Enter Sandman", Full Performance Video Available

Band Photo: Metallica (?)
Pop artists seem to love covering metal's classic tracks. Celine Dion, Shakira and Madonna have done it and now you can add Adam Lambert (American Idol season 8 runner-up) to that list. During an October 17, 2010 tour stop in Auckland, New Zealand Adam Lambert busted out Metallica's biggest hit "Enter Sandman." Surprisingly, the crowd knew the words. You can view the video below:
Here's another video with slightly better sound quality, as tipped by commenter 21stCentury:

yenno brandedcfh420, I respect your contributions to MU and its comments but in the end of the day, this is a very interesting video was will cause discussion and bring more people into the site to view the video. So, its sort of a double edged sword.
IMO, if this was just audio only I would like it alot more but the video itself is, well.....no further comment.

Adam really has the kind of vocals that can sing anything and I think he did a great job with this song! People can deny this because either(1) they are too much of a huge fan and cannot stand seeing anyone else do covers of their heroes I feel the same of my own favorite bands, but if the cover is done well than *thumbs up*, (2)Or they just can't stand that Adam Lambert an also sing this genre, but He was sing hard Rock before Amerian Idol! and he ROCKED Led Zepplin during Rok week too!

14. writes:
OMG - LOVED ADAMS COVER OF THE METALLICA SONG. I HOPE THE BAND DID SEE THIS. HE HAS POWER VOCALS TO SING ANYTHING. AND BY NO WAY DID HE SCREW UP THIS SONG AND ANYONE WHO HAS NEGATIVE COMMENTS NEED TO KEEP TO YOURSELF. FORGET HIS SEXUAL PREFERENCE PEOPLE AND JUST LISTEN TO WHAT AN AMAZING SINGER ADAM IS

15. writes:
My sister is a huge fan of Adam Lambert and Me and my 2 brothers are heavy metal heads I have personally seen Metallica 5 times in concert so when my sister sent me this video last month I was impressed to say the least! I also remember his Led Zepplin cover on American Idol (also sent to me by my sis) and even then I knew this guy would not be easily forgotton, he has a very strong voice and i think he did a very good job.
For those who are being negative It is only a cover people, Be grown up about it and don't get bent out of shape!
17. writes:
I dont think he is a great singer. TO ALL WHO TELL OTHERS TO KEEP THEIR OPINIONS TO THEMSELVES NEED TO LET OTHERS HAVE AN OPINION. did i say anything about his "sexual preference"? NO!!
Im aware its a cover, and quite terrible. i cant stand metallica, and to see a guy on his knees, in leather, doin what he was doing an singing the song was quite horrible, to me. Others thought it was a great thing, and thats great for them, glad they liked it! SERIOUSLY AM! but i will not keep my opinion to myself!!

18. writes:
I saw this link on twitter and I had to see, i guess it might be an insult to heavy metal die hards but seriously Adam did an AWESOME job with the song and it was a one time first time thing, did it for his bass player who is a Metallica-tard. I have been following Adams career and the boy can sing anything! I do hope that this great legendary band Metallica sees this, they can see that Adam didnt fuk up the song, plus his band is AWESOME and like someone mentioned There is ROK cred in the band members.

19. writes:
So I didn't know I liked metal until I heard Adam do this song -- wow! I need to buy more metal! Adam can sing anything - really listen to his music - he has a unique talent. His band backs him up even on songs like this, when there was little time for rehearsal. But they also improvise on stage especially for encores - the mark of truely gifted musicians. Check out Whole Lotta Love by his band at Fantasy Springs, CA or several shows this summer - especially the Dallas show in September.

21. writes:
Wow people enough of the violence and hateful comments. If you want to hear more rock on the radio, you need all the exposure that you can get before rock and roll dies. It's not that serious, if you don't like Adam for whatever reason fine but son't be such a cry baby about it. I've never heard of Metallica because it's not the kind of music I listen to. After Adam Lambert covered this song I liked it so much that went and checked Metallica on youtube and I would consider purchasing their music. I'ts a win win situation.

23. writes:
@brandedcfh420, The reason he was on his knees is that he has the song written on paper and placed before him so he could read the lyrics. He even said he didnt know the song well and this was going to be like kareokee. and yeah he was wearing leather, but he didnt wear this outfit to sing this song, he wore it becasue it is part part of his tour costume. and You are right! everyone is entitled to their own opinions-LOve it or hate it-its all relevent

24. writes:
Hey guys come on.....in todays music scene I think we are very fortunate to have Adam Lambert. Putting aside my immense pride and admiration for Adam....think about this seriously....just who else is there out there nowadays to satisfy those of us are rock lovers at heart needs? GaGa? Beiber? I don't think so. As it's already been said this cover was a one off and when I think at the combined age of some of the original rockers out there my heart sinks. Let Adam have this one guys.....he really did a magnificent job of it and I for one hope he does more way ahead in the future

27. writes:
I first hear of this cover on a local New York radio station
The djs said really good things about it and not surpised that Adam could belt out such a great song like this. They play the song/cover through out the day, I thought that was very cool. I am a huge Metallica fan and in my opinion I think Adam did a great job-Kudos!

28. writes:
I agree with several other commenters. I've heard of Metallica, but couldn't tell you what they sang. You never hear it on radio-too bad. I even went online to listen to some of their music and I liked it. Adam did a great job. Win for Adam for doing such a great cover and Win for Metallica for getting more people interested in their music.

29. writes:
That is one amazing voice. I wish Adam Lambert would sing more rock. This made me want to go hear more Metallica and more Adam Lambert. Pretty amazing that he could sing a song he didn't even know the words to or had ever rehearsed just to please a fellow band member on his birthday. Talented and a nice guy.

31. writes:
I've been a huge metal head all my life. I didn't even like or listen to mainstream pop until 2-3 ago. Having said that, there are many metal fans who considered Enter Sandman a "pop" song and not a true metal song so why not have the best pop male vocalist in the world right now cover it? He can out sing any of the best metal wailers out there. Yep, he did it Adam style and he kissed a boy..a cute one too!...on the middle of it but who cares? He did Metallica proud. FAR better than any metal cover bands I've ever seen. And why are you surprised the audience knew the words? Adams fans are diverse and lovers of music. His band is diverse as well with some serious rock cred behind them. I loved it. Good for Adam and good for Metallica.

33. writes:
The only metal band I ever liked is Judas Priest but after watching Adam do this song I went to Itunes and bought Metallicas version and so did a lot of other people it seems. So Adam has introduced more people to this band, can't be a bad thing. As for Adams band they are well versed in this kind of music. Monte has five Prong albums to his credit and Tommy Joe has the creds as well. Adam can sing anything and I really liked this song.

35. writes:
Adam's a rocker at heart....but the music industry will have none of it. I was never much of a metalhead...more along the lines of LZ, EL&P, Trower, Beck. I can't get enough of this guy's voice....from ballads to rock and everything in between. Must admit though, turning to a pop station in the hopes of hearing him makes me want to poke my eyes out with a branding iron. His voice powers out a lot of hard rock, including this little b-day surprise.

37. writes:
Adam Lambert is a f***ing rocker at heart...but these days almost no metal (even hard rock) is played on radio. Who else could decide within hours of his show to cover Metallica's Enter Sandman as a gift to his bassist who is a major Metallica fan? Only him. And the glam rock/pop crowd knew the words. Hell of a cover!

39. writes:
Too bad rock isn't played on radio anymore except on classic rock stations. Adam wants to have success, so he has to sing what is being played, but Geeeezzz that boy can sing. My sister sent me a bunch of his Whole Lotta Love covers, including the acoustic - have to say they're pretty impressive.

my reaction when i saw this fvcking sh!te was pretty much 'you've got to be fvcking kidding me'....the whole thing is just hideous....EVERY fvcking thing about it
it should be under the humor category.....bad humor

Adam Lambert did a great job. Don't know why it's surprising that Lambert's fans know the words to Enter Sandman. Much of his fanbase are rock fans who only listen to pop stations because of him. I enjoy Adam Lambert as well as Metallica, U2, Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam, GNR, Aerosmith, etc. I do not follow any other Pop stars, just Adam. For those negative posters...don't be such music snobs. Artists are constantly crossing genres. It's the way the music business is today. Only thing is Adam Lambert excels in which ever genre he chooses to play. Thank you for posting these two great vids. I'm sure Metallica just picked up more fans because of Lambert and your site. I also enjoy this site. :)

Suddenly a lot of weird comments from all these new names I've never seen before regarding the most trite commercial sounding song I've been subjected to all year, even if it is a Metalica cover. Seems too much like underhanded marketing tactics for my liking. I'll sandblast my brain with some Decapitated, to get the GHEY out.

54. writes:
Attention all Adam Lambert groupies, please bugger of to the Adam Lambert website where you can perv with other groupies, and leave us alone to discuss things concerning metal+underground, (hence the name of the site). 99% of the regular users of this site probably think Adam Lambert is commercial crap, and would not have given a fart. You people are obviously working for his marketing company, trolling the forums, making spam comments. This is not the way to win friends round these parts.

57. writes:
HR, whrtf you been brother?
It could be worse though, it could be bieber or Michael buble up there whaling this....
As a metal fan this doesn't bother me at all because enter sandman is off the black album, which isn't a metal lp at all. ...to me it's rock, or haggard metal..
So to me this guy covered a rock song which i could care less. ..
Post 2 LOL, and these comments are coming either from wise azz clones or a reward for deathbringer for doing relentless advertising recently....

@Adam Lambert Fan. Again most of the regular users of this site dont care if Adam Lambert can sing according to your standards, you've obviously never ever listened to a single metal album in your life. I cant be bothered. What does piss me off badly is you freaks trolling this site. I'm gonna go now.

Amazing how much hatred and mis-understanding there is surrounding gays still. This footage was filmed at a live show that people paid to see. Those same people might enjoy seeing him do his flambuoyant routine. You were not forced to watch this video with a gun against your head either. Conclusion: if you're p***ed that a pop star is covering metal songs...fine. So be it. Vent your deepest concerns here. But judging a mans musical ability based on his sexuality is beyond ignorant. This is a website about MUSIC, not a hot topic debate about celebrities sexuality. People need to stop judging artists' personal lives/preferences when deciding if they like/support a band. Take a look at Tool for a prime example of a band about the music and nothing else.

66. writes:
It has to be said - its not actually a bad vocal, but who is he?
For all you people raggin on him - grow up
If he didn't look like a poncy lil faghat - on my wikipedia reading he actually is gay (my bad) - and was in a huge or even mediocre metal band you would give him his dues and say it was a decent cover.

69. writes:
who knew that metal fans were such cry babies. Having a meltdown and asking for violence cause Adam sang a cover of a metal song? Grow up fellas or should I say gurls. Who is proving to be the fa- here? A guy who sang a song that he only rehersed once or the crybabies who are spazing out over it. I thought rock was cool and above the curb. But some of you sound like some backwoods dorks.

RT! just got out of the woods for a few weeks.....got yer email----hope all is well with you my brother!
whomever said this is a pop artist covering a pop song is absolutely correct....which is exactly what is wrong with the video being presented here
now if ol' mr poofter threw down some fvckin pantera, and had the chops to pull it off....well i'd be the first to give him props eh
but this? nah....that tune don't even have difficult vox

anyway, let's be in touch....we'll get er done!
just noticed the exchange about 'backwoods dorks'....and then i come on here talkin about how i just got out of the woods....but its only temporary, i'll be back in the sticks soon! :)
also, one's sexual preferences have no bearing in this fight....but shoddy renditions of sh!tty tunes deserve both fvcking barrels eh
poseur antics = outright fvcking backlash from the METAL elite....case closed

84. writes:
Hellrat, Adam was performing for his fans not for you. I doubt that he cares about your backlash. He is selling out concerts domestically and internationally so as long as his fans are happy it is all good. He is new and this is his first tour but 75,000 in Canada, 20,000 in Singapore, 16,000 in LA will make it less likely that he will care about cred with a few posters on this site.
85. writes:
And yet, despite your view of the cosmic insignificance of hellrat's disdain you choose to post your thoughts in the same insignificant way as him. Numbers, sales figures, concert sellouts, it all mean nothing to people who listen to extreme music. Since when has popularity ever signified the quality of art?
On another note, pop fans sure are a lot more mature and polite than I remember them being.

88. writes:
I disliked this cover like a great many of you who visit this site more often, then some of these other folk. I visit this site daily, but I don't comment much. I have a few times, but I'm kind of quite. Any how. I thought his band did a fine job with the music, but I thought his vocal style (like it or hate it) was a horriable fit for this song.

94. writes:
It's interesting how something like this would have been a one-off event and hardly talked about were it not for the Internet. Certainly the publicity he's getting from it isn't hurting him and people care enough to share the story on social networks, etc.
I'm sure a lot of metalheads had never heard of Adam Lambert up til now, much like I had remained blissfully ignorant of Lady Gaga for a long time until finally being exposed to her music shortly before the metal remixes started making rounds.
95. writes:
As the unofficial homo mascot for Metal Underground let me say this....
Lambert is no different than any of the other Idols.
How many of them have had actual careers?
Carrie Underwood.....that's it.
Lambert will come out with one, maybe two albums and he'll end up on Broadway opening up for Prince Poppycock.
End of story, good bye.

I've been reading through the comments about this abomination of a song and I've gotta ask: Why the fvck are people who don't like metal on this site? I'm just curious.. Hence the name metalunderground.
Also, although I've never talked to him personally, branded is the sh!t so you can all suck my cvnt. :D
Adam has a terrible voice and no one gives a rats a$$ if he likes the shaft. Being gay is pretty accepted these days, especially when you're older. Soooooo stop being ignorant and realize that none of us are bashing on him because he's a homosexual and that we're bashing on him because his voice and music are all a big pile of dog sh!t.
KTHNXBAI~! :D
102. writes:
IMO, even if you don't like pop music (I hate it with a passion too :p) I think it's pretty ignorant to say he can't sing. I mean his vocal range is huge. You may not like the sound he brought to Metallica's cover but let me assure you: Dr. Flambuoyant can sing. That is all.
104. writes:
IMO, Count Fagula can sing I just find his voice to sound similar to nails on a chalkboard.. e.e That's just my taste though. I don't like his voice. It makes me kiiiiinda wanna eat a baby.
And you are welcome Branded lol. You're comments and sh!t always make me laugh my a$$ off. xD
107. writes:
Branded: even though I don't like his sound I wouldn't say it was a terrible cover. Considering he only rehearsed the song once and barely knew the words...he added some really impressive vocals to a fairly bland and extremely over played rock-radio hit. IMO a cover shouldn't sound exactly like the original. The covering artist should add his/her own style into the mix. You may not like Flamebert, nor do I, but he definately added his touch to the song and didn't miss a note...like his voice or not that wasn't out of tune singing...

111. writes:
ha^ funny!
you watch people....this fvckin clown is gonna appear onstage at a sh!tallica gig
once them little piggies get a whiff of how all the teeny bopper girlies throw $$$ after this goofy poof....well, when does a piggy turn up his snout at the prospect of more money?
the fact that this gaper even considered performing this sh!t tune is testament to how weak the material is in a METAL sense
and it only gets worse from there
i once told B that i figured i hated them f*** offs more than he, but he didn't buy it----you might reconsider brother :)

I cant wait until Adam Lambert covers Korn! :D
its not the fact that Adam Lambert is on this site, because hes not....Adam Lambert is in no way connected to the data-base of this site. METALLICA is though.
remember, for those who are either extremely homophobic or have any other reason to be so angered by this news post, this was posted in the "just for fun" section and seeing how 120+ people have shared this MU article on Facebook, 35+ people sharing it on Twitter and with 1000+ page views a day....people are having fun with it :D

I felt obligated to create an account here after reading this post. Never before have I been so ashamed of our society. Adam Lambert introduced people to Metallica? WTF? If you never heard of Metallica be4 you have been living under a rock in a 3rd world country for the past 20 years. Besides that, the performance was terrible: He sounds like a female pop singer and watching his movements and mannerisms almost made me puke. The only bright spot was that the band could at least handle the riffs. This just goes to show how insane our society is these days, endorsing such terrible musicians......
128. writes:
^ if he is pleasing people by singing, then what is the problem? Good for them of they find something good in his music. I happened to like this performance just don't like his pop songs. The dude could use that voice in an old school metal band and I think people would love it.
I'm not keen on a queer actions he was doing on stage. Very very gay.

I'm down with TAG's take on Kill Em' All. I don't think any of us would be here if KEA wasn't released, when it was released. It definately opened some doors that were previously sealed shut. There was a metal scene and yes there were bands like Slayer, Exodus, Venom etc... But KEA paved the way for our current way of life. Maybe it's just the effects of me watching Hot Tub Time Machine last night though. lol.

I didn't care for AJFA. Maybe because i'm a Cliff elitist and they dumped the bass out of the mix (Jason was playing it, but as I understand it Cliff had already written it).
I'm not much of a Metallica fan after MOP. Up until AJFA though I was a full on Metalli-sheep. We still do Seek and Destroy on various occasions.

if burton HAD played on that record, i think it would have been fvckin all-time....but then, if our lost friend had been able to stay around, metallica would probably never turned into remotely the absolute junkshow it has devolved into
