even tho i know it'll just be a sense of purpose prt 2, i still can't wait for this sh**!! i fvcking love in flames and melodic death metal. nothing compares to jester's race - clayman, but the albums after were still amazing, and the last one was just awesome. eventually they'll pull a metallica and piss off everyone for completely leaving their roots, but for now, they're still great in my book =]

Well In Flames has lost Jesper, who was the main source for riffs... Even in albums like A Sense of Purpose and Soundtrack to Your Escape Jesper's awesomeness was always present. Without him I doubt they'll get back to their roots again. Also: Come on guys. Not EVERYTHING in their Post-Reroute to Remain era was sh**. Come Clarity and a lot of parts in Reroute to Remain were pretty good in my opinion.
Haters gonna hate, btw.

i guess sometimes people glorify imitators and not the innovators , come on this band is a blatant rip off of at the gates, nothing new created, theres been bands that emulated that gothenburg style better than in flames why worship this particular piece of nothing?? plu nowadays they hardly have anything to do with death metal if melodic one, try amon amarth at least they don't use triggers :P

^^im assuming you live in your parents basement and you have cheetos residue on your bare man boob chest as your reading this but im just getting sick of hearing people like you that have don't respect bands that helped pioneer what metal is today and has fans. seriously its cool if your into a few obscure underground metal bands that no one really knows about but why flame a band just because their sound isn't your taste? they are still more talented than 99% of bands out there and you can't deny them credit because of a few bad releases, what they've given the metal community deserves alot more respect. your just a punk troll looking for a rise out of someone for clicking on a news story about a band that you don't like and leaving an ignorant comment. i can understand flaming a overnight success scene band because they don't deserve being there but in flames have been doing this and working hard at it for 20 years so who the f*** are you to say anything really?

where shall i start.... firstly in flames started as a cover band , they were covering Bad news a UK rock comedy act, but then something unique originated in sweden "death metal" so the biggest band around and at the mo in gotheburg was at the gates so your sh**ty band decided to streamline their style and sound to the mainstream, if youd read 'swedish death metal" youd known that guys from in flames never have been engagaed in the swedish death metal movement further more the whole scene despised them.
first demo released by in flames was 1993 so as we have 2010 it gives us 17 years and not over 20 :P
can i ask what did in flames pioneer?? is this a joke??
even the original in flames vocalist Mikael Stanne called this band rubish and went to dark tranquility :P
have i ever said that slipknot was influential to any scene or that they were better thany any other band??
talking about popularity, lady gaga\was the fisrt to have over 100 millions followers on facebook does that mean her music is good??
as to kicking me in the nuts send me your e-mail and ill send you my adress so you can show how much you love in flames hahaha....

Dear In Flames, please disband and stop making sh**ty music.... there was a time when IF was one of my favorite bands but after 4 sh**ty albums and 2 disappointing shows im done. they have totally left all fans of their early work and want to attract a crowd of 14yr old girls.. every now and then i will throw on Jester Race,Whoracle or Lunar Strain while firing up a joint and remember what was once a great band.

i wouldn't say it was a completely abandonment of their sound, just a change of style in delivering. i don't admit post-clayman is not at all as epic, but still shouldn't be considered NOT melodic death metal at all, if at least, melodic metal, which is what anders as stated what they are and have nvr coined the term "melodic death metal" for describing their music. i, for one, still love them and they will continue to be one of my fav.'s. they're sound is ever changing but the style and vibe are the same. they've expanded their sound, not abandoned it. idk what 14 yr old grls would even like in flames. if i knew any, i would take a crack on that underage a$$ ;) while listening to in flames, while making the grl wear my in flames shirt and my bookbag that has an in flames patch on it.

also, i am a pretty big melodeath fan, and i love dark tranquility about just as much as the next melodeath fan, but their best stuff has been possibly the last 4-5 albums, but at the same time, it's just ALL THE SAME!! it seems as if they've created a formula for their material and just come out with the same record 4-5 times alrdy.

IN flames is a great band! They really only have one bad album and that is soundtrack to your escape except the songs (f(r)iend, evil in a closet, my sweet shadow, the quiet place, touch of red). The rest of the songs were filler though. The new and old in flames are totally different bands imo. They are both great. I think though I would prefer the old In Flames, but I love new in flames as well. Anders' voice keeps getting better

HAHA: First of all, who hates on Deftones after that last album they just put out? I mean I can understand hating on Deftones last year but man their last album is pretty legit.
Analguest: At the Gates is awesome, old In Flames is awesome, Slipknot not so much. Also, Michael Stanne shouldn't really be ripping on anyone bc IMO he is the weakest link in Dark Tranquillity but that is probably because I don't really like his vocals at all.
n0thinghead: Totally right about Dark Tranquillity and their last albums all sounding like it was recorded in one session, I wouldn't be surprised if they recorded 100 songs 5 years ago and just said "FOCK IT! Release and album every few years!"
What I don't like is when In Flames plays a few old songs at concerts, and they pick crazy a$$ obscure songs. Both times I saw them they played The Hive. I mean ok I dig that song but for christ sake play Jotun, or Colony, or Dead Eternity, or Moonshield, etc.
They say that they don't get a good enough response from their old music anymore, well if you only play the hive and satellites and astronauts then maybe thats why Anders.....
They had the audacity to play half of Jester Race and the first half of Dead God In Me when I saw them. Finally 2 good songs and they play the first half of each.
Sorry for the Rant

Sorry Nothinghead I'm gonna disagree with you on this. I'm a HUGE Dark Tranquility fan and believe that they are far superior than In Flames right now. I think IF have put out 1 decent album since Clayman. DT has stayed true to their roots and keeping their music real. The last 4-5 albums have similarities and differences with each other. But your an idiot if you don't think The Gallery is one of the greatest melo-death albums of all time come on now. Skydancer and the Mind's I are great too.

i just rlly think DT and (old) IF are just 2 pretty different variations of melodeath. DT's got the kinda eery, dark, gothic-like vibe with the keyboards, which started that variation of melodeath, but IF's gothenburg style of the intricate, harmonized guitar lead is just amazing.
it's true about them doing the same old sh** live, and it is annoying. i RLLY wanted to hear "only for the weak" live, or "suburban me" (my fav), but i would LOVE to hear "goliaths disarm their davids" or "episode 666", even tho i did get to see live "food for the gods" and "dead god in me" at least.
and post #42, don't think ur kalmah reference went unnoticed, i just don't like them THAT to much. they just try to combined the 2 variations that are DT and IF, and i just don't like it, while, on the other hand, a band that just does IF's style with DT's vibe, Finnland's insomnium, is just great.

I don't mind the pre-clayman stuff (Colony is BY FAR my favourite of the older stuff though), but i am into more modern metal as opposed to Melo-death. I'll much sooner play through the whole of Come Clarity than Clayman or Whoracle. Too much filler on those old albums in my opinion! Satellites and Astronauts anyone?
I must be the only guy on this planet who likes Anders proper clean singing (NOT the whining Korn crap, but the real singing- Crawl Thru Knives' chorus is amazing!). Not a huge fan of ASOP though, strangely, so bring on album number 10!
Also, check out the song In Flames recorded with Pendullum called 'Self VS self'- the riffs on that remind me of Colony-meets-clayman-meets-RTR!!!

@Analguest, Seriously dude? I read both of your ridiculously ignorant comments and just couldnt keep my mouth shut. Im not gonna sit here and read your bullsh** and walk away. In Flames DID pioneer. They influenced many Swedish metallers and bands all over the world by leading the Swedish Melodic Death Metal genre. Ok, maybe not originators, but everyone cant be an originator dumbf***. Everyone has an influence, and they incorporate that into their music and style, whats wrong with that? I would be humbled.
Second, What the f*** have you done with your life? You have no reason to bash on ANY band. Look at yourself, you sit on a forum, and BASH a band that is legendary because you dont "like" them. f*** you, seriously, you have the nerve. Go and form a band, and send me a clip of your piece of sh** no talent ass.
Sorry, I had to get that out.

I really look forward to this, even if it is a pick and choose set of tracks. I know that is what their cd's can be from time to time....but its worth it to me still. And as far as them not being influential at all...really?? They may not have been the originators of the style, but if that were the case then your saying your only allowed to listen to five diffrent bands and everyone else in the metal scene are posers. Along with that, does it matter if they were a cover band before?? Does that take away from their validity for being metal?? If thats also the case then you can write off pantera for being a glam band before being heavy metal. They are band wagon hopping posers too then right?? They had a change as musicians, and were successful at it and stuck with it because of there overwhelming backing from fans. I think In Flames did help carry the flag, and spread the genre to even more people. So influential....very much so. You can have your opinions and such as much as you want, but i still cant help but find all of them invalid or misconstrued for your own sake. Also I love Dark Tranquility, you say its all the same, i say they are just consistant. And along with that, they never have pick and choose and avoid the filler cds. I usually tend to love their entire albums. I wish alot of more bands were as consistant as they are. You do however have their style pretty much down, DT are more rhythm based with lead melodic keyboards while IF are more lead overlaid gothenburg style. I dont know how people dont like DT's vocals however, I really enjoy them. I find his vocals actually very black metal influenced. Seriously you could probably overlay parts of his vocals on a burzum track and it could work lol. The base raspiness of his vocals are the exact same as most black metal bands. The only diffrence is he doesnt pronounce all of his lyrics in a high pitch, instead using a lower tone to pronounce his words which works out much better for him, resulting in a much more enunciated and clearer vocal style. Anyways.......I had to get my two cents in.
