Bal-Sagoth Writing New Material

British battle metallers Bal-Sagoth are currently in the process of writing for the follow-up to 2001's Atlantis Ascendant opus. Here's where they are so far.

“The writing of the sixth album is continuing in truly dynamic fashion," explains Bal-Sagoth in a band-related press release. "The wondrous soundscapes which you, the listener, will be able to experience on the long-awaited sixth opus will be truly unparalleled in the annals of extreme metal. Taking full advantage of the twenty-first century technology at our disposal, we are ensuring that both the essence of the music itself and the final sound quality of the compositions will be wholly unrivalled. The stories of the sixth opus will take fans on a darkly sublime voyage to the very frontiers of primal horror and extra-dimensional malevolence. And old favorites, such as the long-awaited continuation of the Obsidian Crown saga, will also appear on the new album. Fans of all five Bal-Sagoth albums to date will find something on the new opus to both thrill and enthrall them.

“Once the writing process is complete, we will begin the recording phase, a process which will take place both within the hallowed halls of the famed Academy Music Studio (thus continuing the decade long and time honoured tradition of Bal-Sagoth working with Academy), and also at a secret new state-of-the-art recording facility, the exact name and location of which cannot be disclosed for security reasons.

“This will be no rush job... every step of the process of creation of the sixth album, from the writing and recording to the printing, pressing and packaging, will be painstakingly crafted and carefully overseen, to fully ensure that it will be as great as it possibly can be in every imaginable detail. The release, marking the tenth anniversary of the mighty Bal-Sagoth, will be unforgettable."

Meanwhile, Bal-Sagoth have tapped Games Workshop illustrator Martin Hanford for the album art, tying the theme of a more "barbaric" return to the group's early days, specifically 1994's A Black Moon Broods Over Lemuria album.
