Burzum, the infamous one man black metal band formed by Varg Vikernes, has posted short samples of his new album, "Belus" online. You can catch a preview of each song by heading to Amazon.com.

Speaking on the album, Vikernes stated: "Inspiration for the album has come from a variety of sources, and I find my inspiration from fairy tales and myths, from classical music from memories of what once was, from traditional music, from fantasy, from the wind and weather, from deep forests and running water, from the sky and the sunset, from misty mountains and from yellow leaves falling from age old trees.

"My ambition with Belus is to create something I - and hopefully others too - can listen to for years and years to come without ever growing tired of it, and at the same time to share with my audience the experience of getting to know Belus, as he might have been perceived by the ancient Europeans.

"The combination of lyrics and music makes this a fairy tale different from most others, and should appeal to all those who like transcendental music and love to see different things from a different perspective.

"If I can make you dream when listening to this album, I believe I have done a good job."

Wow. That was atrocious. For someone who talks so much sh** about the "black metal mainstream", Varg seems to have excelled at creating an astoundingly generic and boring black metal album. I suppose I'll give the whole thing a listen when it leaks online, but... I'm not feeling hopeful.

I have to go listen to Filosofem now.

Is that really what black metal is supposed to sound like?
I've never quite understood the whole genre thing. "We're not thrash, we're f***ing death metal" etc..

If you can't tell thrash from death metal and black metal, then stick around and learn more about it :-) The styles themselves are pretty easy to tell apart unless you're listening to a band that is blending them.

Either these samples are a hoax or Varg is a hypocrite because I agree with post 1.

Not bad at all! I'm still looking forward to this. A few seconds of a 6 to 8 or 11 minute song doesn't do a track all it's justice. I honestly want to hear this album in its entirety.

well the album is decent, nothing special a lot of emulating burzum(sic) some innovations for vard as using some clean vocals, typical repetitive riffs if you didn't hhear it you didn't miss anything
