Soundgarden Announces Reunion

After a twelve year hiatus, legendary Seattle based grunge band Soundgarden has announced that they have reunited. The linup of singer/guitarist Chris Cornell, bass player Ben Shephard, drummer matt Cameron and guitar player Kim Thayil will be performing a series of shows in the west coast of the United States later this year and are rumoured to be performing at the Coachella Music Festival. A message from Chris Cornell's official website reads:

"The 12 year break is over and school is back in session. Sign up now. Knights of the Soundtable ride again!"

I can't help but think, though, that this was a commercial move, considering Alice in Chains' recent reunion and how well it turned out for them.

Wtf first day of 2010 and we already got good news like this? Looks like a great year already. I was just reading past statements of Cornell saying this would not likely happen ever a few days ago and now to see this is very nice.

Great way to start off the new year! And with Pearl Jam and Alive in Chains doing well again and Stone Temple Pilots reforming, we may just get a Grunge revival going! Too bad Cobain is not around to reform Nirvana.

Oh no... WHY?? I mean, Soundgarden was good, but when they pulled the plug, it was only a wise decision as they┬┤d turn to embarrassing sh1te.

So the only crap band to reunite now is the english band BUSH.

God help us (well, god doesnt have time for me, so perhaps Lucifer? Budha, Allah, well anyone!! Help us!!)

Classic, almost timeless act.

Hope they can tap into that old energy--the last Cornell solo album is legendary for being so terrible-though I thought his first solo album and the first Audioslave were at least decent. Looking forward to hearing new Thayil!

I was reading that they don't plan on actually touring. They were "reuniting" to put together a box set of rarities and B-sides. Kim Thayil is gonna be in charge of putting it together.

Soundgarden was a very good band back in the day, but now Chris Cornell is too much of a toolbag to have any respect anymore in my opinion. Kim Thayil = underrated guitarist. STAY METAL MY FRIENDS!

Say what you want about Kurt Cobain but the guy did what he wanted with his music which by itself is very commendable, he was anti commercial to the bone and the rock genre today could use him or someone of a similar spirit.

I think Chris Cornell has a great voice. It is definitely unique and has its own sound. So, you have to atleast give him that. Hopefully from what post 29 said, they will change their mind and push their work a little further when they get working together.

I hope that they aren't trying to catch in on the success of AIC. Alice in Chains took a big chance with their new singer, and it just so happened that it kicked a$$ and they lucked out. These dudes on the other hand, I mean, what are they going to play? Travel up and and down the west coast playing their old songs, audioslave and solo covers? Sounds lame to me. I dig these guys, but I'd rather throw on my ipod if I want to hear some Soundgarden.

Just a comment on Hammerheart's comment about the Alice in Chains reunion, they never broke-up! One of they're major players died, they had to go through a grieving period, found another singer, and got back to business.

Gmac: Actually, they did break-up in the mid-90's. Do you remember the band Mad Season? Staley sang for them on their album while Cantrell did guitars and vocals for AIC at the time (on the self-titled album ['95?]). AIC got back together briefly a few years later to record one song and put it on a best-of compilation.

I'd be happy if they only played material from Badmotorfinger. Hell of a good band, but I just feel like that was their last good album/honest effort. "Outshined" is the most jammin' grunge (f*ck, that word STILL leaves a nasty taste in my mouth) ever.
