We, The Undersigned Issues New Tour Road Report
We, The Undersigned have issued the following fifth tour blog from their current "Off With Their Heads" tour:
"November 16th – The Kelowna Club – Kelowna, BC. Oh what a night! As previously mentioned, we decided to drive over night to Kelowna. Desipte the fact that we met up with a snow storm in the mountains of Alberta, with the help of a little bit of shift-work driving, I found myself waking up in what the Tim’s employee told me was Kamloops, BC around noon. Not bad! One motivation behind the night-time drive was to ensure that when we begin our 4-day trek back to Halifax, we’re ready.
"Our first show in British Columbia this time around is in Kelowna. I was once informed by Ottawa’s 'Fuck The Facts' that Kelowna has a lot of passionate music lovers, or so-says their song named after the city. I think we proved their theory because we (er...i mean.... Ninjaspy) filled this small community center and had the craziest pits we’ve seen all tour for both ours as well as NS’s set. Thanks Kelowna for losing your freakin’ minds!!! Can’t wait to come back.
"Something that deserves mentioning about this night is that I took a huge bail during our 2nd song of our set, Pangea Mind. I fell right on my ass and had my guitar signal cut out. As any professional would (lol!), I got my guitar working just in time to hit an A-minor and scream 'Disipate!!!'. That’s what I get for trying to pull off the 'Eddie Vedder' power jumps. Amazing show, sold some shirts/cd’s, got to see my longtime friend Charlie Robichaud. Looking foward to the remainder of our BC dates...
"November 17th – The Pogue Mahone – Kamloops, BC. Yes! Another Irish Pub! The east coaster in me wants to eat all their wonderful food and drink all their wonderful beer. But... having money for rent when I get back would be nice too lol! Oh well, enjoy now - pay later, right??? Both opening bands of the night were pretty cool tonight. Strangely the first act was a pop/rock/melodyne band from Edmonton called 'Mapping The Escape'. They had a giant bus with tonnes of gear... it was epic. Part of me thinks they’re a worship band, judging by the vibes and song titles. Tyler was having an off night so we thought it would be cool if MTE lent us their Anterres Pitch Correction rack unit, but sadly they declined. Of course this is a joke, Tyler’s been owning the vocals on this tour and we’re super proud of him.
"The other radical opening band was of a completely different flavor, Death-Grind-Metal! They were called 'BloodDrunk' and they took a page out of the Fuck The Facts book by shredding our faces off with a vicious yet cute female vocalist. Even without a bass-player on this show we were all pretty stoked by this band. Thanks Kamloops, you’re not as fruity or loopy as Kelowna said you were. Congrats... Tomorrow we visit the home-town of the Ninjaspy clan, Maple Ridge. Dinner at the Parents!
"November 18th – Hammon Hall – Maple Ridge, BC. After a mountainous 4 hour drive heading southbound we finally arrived in Maple Ridge, the hometown of ninjaspy. Upon our arrival the Parent household immediately welcomed us with a healthy delicious meal. Anyone who’s toured will understand just how important a home-cooked meal can be when you’re gallivanting the flat-lands. Thanks NS and family! Sidenote: Back in the Ontario leg of the tour, Jai’s bass amp became damaged and so we’ve been trying to get repaired somewhere in the west. Today we brought the amp to a repair shop and we’re expecting to pick it up when we return from Victoria island.
"Tonight’s show is All Ages (suh-weet!) and takes place is a cube-like church hall with extremely high ceilings. As expected, the sound was pretty intense/frantic in there but the BC ninjaspy fans are a rowdy bunch and made this show amazing! ninjaspy’s mosh pit was at it’s peak tonight, with 40 sweaty dudes pulverizing each other to their groove-based ska-metal; it was a beautiful sight. The opening bands, Basilisk and Paradosis were pretty badass so if you’ve been checking out some of the bands I’ve been posting, check these guys out!
"Somehow, by some supernatural power, the super-thin and wobbly plastic tables duct taped together acting as a stage... didn’t fall apart. I was certain we were going down :o
Awesome show! Looking forward to playing 3 more shows in this magical province of mystical proportions. To the island!!!
"November 19th – The Spice Lounge – Nanaimo, BC. Have I talked about the merciless rain yet? Well, here we go! The November rains in British Columbia are relentless! It hasn’t stopped since we got here... will it ever? I know the answer to this question, and soon, you will too.
"The promoter of this show was kind enough to get us some Pizza’s to scarf when we arrived, that’s always nice. WTU and ninjaspy are the only 2 bands on the bill so we’ll be taking our time and pulling out some rare ones tonight. (actually we played our set the same as every other night.) Luckily we got to hear a few rarities from ninjaspy, including Pure Sketch, Submission, and Shuriken Dance, which is currently an unreleased track!
"No local bands to speak of for this one. Just another sweet show with NS. The NS fans seem to be accepting and enjoying our music and we couldn’t be more stoked about it. The sincerity of their music has instilled an open-mindedness in their fans and I can clearly see it. Warms my heart, it does... Tomorrow we skip an hour south to the Vic..."
