Bon Jovi To Play “Greatest Show on Earth”
Bon Jovi is officially the first major act lined up to perform at next year's Calgary Stampede in Alberta, Canada, dubbed the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.
The annual event has been a staple to western culture since 1912 and, aside from the traditional rodeo action and farm-focused exhibition, the Calgary Stampede has a long history of promoting the arts through music, art galleries and other expressions. More than 1,000,000 visitors pass through the gates each year. The Stampede next runs July 9-18, 2010, with New Jersey’s Bon Jovi set to perform at the Pengrowth Saddledome the evening of July 14.
Bon Jovi’s visit to next year’s Stampede will be their only western Canadian arena show during the band’s The Circle World Tour. The tour will see the group spend much of the next two years on the road, performing 135 shows in 30 countries.
“Obviously, we’re overjoyed to welcome Bon Jovi, one of the hardest working rock bands in the world to next year’s Stampede,” say Jim Laurendeau, senior manager, Stampede Programming. “We know that this is just the first of many major announcements about the talented lineup we’re bringing to next year’s show. Stay tuned.”
Over the past two decades, Bon Jovi has sold more than 120 million albums, and performed more than 2,600 concerts in over 50 countries for more than 34 million fans. They’re best known for their hair metal hits of the ’80s, like “Livin’ On A Prayer” and “Wanted Dead or Alive.”
