Devin Towsend Project's "Addicted" Title Track Posted Online
After releasing “Ki” in May 2009, DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT is preparing the second installment of the series of four albums. Entitled “Addicted,” the album is set for European release on the following dates:
GERMANY, AUSTRIA, SWITZERLAND, ITALY: Friday, November 13, 2009.
UK, BENELUX, FRANCE, GREECE, DENMARK, NORWAY, PORTUGAL, REST OF EUROPE: Monday, November 16, 2009.
SPAIN: Tuesday, November 17, 2009.
FINLAND, SWEDEN, HUNGARY: Wednesday, November 18, 2009
The album’s title track can be heard now on Noisecreep along with the first U.S. interview with Townsend concerning this release.
Townsend states: “Musically, ‘Addicted’ is along the lines of the big, wall of sound hard rock/heavy metal of Ocean Machine and Accelerated Evolution (even Physicist at points). It is a very direct and 'to the point' album with an emphasis on groove and the chorus. In the past, lots of my records end up taking a kind of Pink Floyd-ish route (between song meandering, etc.) ‘Addicted’ is really simple: 10 rocking songs with no bullshit.
“The vocal duties on this record are handled by myself and Anneke van Giersbergen (ex-The Gathering). I wanted to have male and female vocals kind of 'tell the story' so to speak. It's an honor to work with her and she has a lovely, lovely energy. I absolutely love this record and it affects me in a way that I wasn't prepared for. It's a fully rocking album of optimism.”
As previously reported, the multi-instrumentalist has just been added to the bill for Bloodstock Open Air 2010 as a very special guest appearance. This will be his only UK show in 2010.

I like Devin and SYL but hes using the exact same chords from "The New Black" in nearly the same fashion for at least the first 2 mins. Chorus is pretty close too.
I still dig the tune, and always respect this nuts work. But fopefully they will kick it up for the rest of the album.

For me they are really hit and miss. They have a few gems of songs like "All Hail the New Flesh" and "Love" which are pretty groove orientated. But then he has the most abstract, for lack of a better word, noise "songs" thrown in there. But if you can wade through those icky riffs he usually throws a few goods ones into those filler songs as well.
If you could take anything from this guy it would be his overall musicianship and musical insight.

I like. I really like. I mean, long live metal and all that jazz, but DT is just one of those guys that depsite the type of sound he puts out, it's quality stuff and even if you don't like it you end up respecting it.
