Solstafir Issues New Tour Recap
Solstafir has issued the following recap of their recent tour dates:
"Köbenhavn: After taking the boat back from Sweden to Denmark it took us a few hours just to get the bus into the street of the venue. Some part of the street had been closed or what not and Christian our loyal German bus driver was having problems with getting the bus to fit in there. But he made it eventually with German efficiency. There has never been much rock’n’roll in Denmark and I didn’t expect a huge crowd. The venue (The Rock) is big and grand, and my expectations proved right, it was more than half empty. We still had a great time there, meeting up with our friends Thomas and his father and old roadcrew, the entire roadcrew Óli Tröllabarn. A roadie that works like 3 men and drinks like 5! We did our best for the ca 30-40 people that actually did show up and did a pretty good show in an awesome sound. Afterwards we had a few beers with the other bands and our roadcrew in front of 7-11, just like true rockstars!

"Hamburg: In Hamburg we were joined by Borknagar, who headlined that and the 2 following shows. This was one of our best gigs crowd wise. Although we did a short set the people there seemed to be really into it. The small venue was totally packed and you couldn’t lift a finger without braking some sweat. Just like the gigs before we met some good old friends, Cornelius of Solefald/Sturmgeist/Gut came all the way from Berlin and so did my old friend Christian. My friend Stefan who had learned Icelandic drinking customs in the previous year brought us some good old Icelandic Brennivín, despite me fucking up by not giving the promoter the guest list in time. I’m so sorry about that guys! Alex and the Nebelmond gang were there too, a pleasure like always guys! Anyway, after the gig we had so many people coming up to us and telling us how great the gig was, the reaction was overwhelming and I needed to drown it in some Brennivín. So off we headed into town. I actually remember nothing from that point on. I was just told some people had to carry me into the bus. I lost my ipod and my credit card: Rock and roll!!

"Leeuwarden: Crowd wise our worst gig on the tour so far. We gave it our best shot but the crowd just seemed dead. Maybe they had too much to drink the previous night as well. Again we fucked up the guestlist by giving it to the promoter too late. Sorry guys!

"Oberhausen: Bleeding Edge festival. Pagan metal, fur coats, swords, drinking horns. We were pretty sure this was not going to be our kind of crowd, but we were wrong. The hall was full (a few hundred people – I’d say somewhere between 500-700) and a really good reaction despite me fucking up the playback of Köld by counting into the song a 4 beats too early. But somehow we managed to pull a straight face and do the job in an awesome sound.
Again we met some great friends, Piet had come from Belgium for the second time on the tour and our dear old friend Wiebke was there with her camera of course.
Again we (mostly me and John of Code I’m told) got totally shitfaced.

"Paris: The Paris gig was quite uneventful except for big sound problems on stage. I couldn’t hear jack shit except for this low frequency bass in the first song, and I’m not even sure Addis guitar was there at all. But it got a bit better after the first song.

Marseille
"We arrived at the venue around noon, but it wouldn’t open until 3 ‘o clock so we had some time to kill. Actually the venue was about an hour outside of Marseille, in what seemed to me like a nice small town. It was hotter then hell as we walked through the town, site seeing like normal tourists. The gig for me was one of the most fun gigs I’ve done. I don’t know why though. The sound in the venue was quite bad, the mixer too small (we had to drop Köld from our set ‘cause there was no channel for the Hammond playback), and inside it was so hot that I think I lost about 5 kg just standing there sweating. But we played like hell and the audience, about 50 souls (not bad for a Monday night out in the middle of nowhere) seemed to like what we offered. I even spoke to a catholic priest after the show who said he absolutely loved our music, hahaha, how weird is that? The only bad thing was the lack of showers and toilets, so we went to sleep pretty dirty, sweaty and wasted after the hottest gig I have ever played in my life."
