Infernal Comments On Request To Remove Von Cover Song "Devil Pig"

Sweden's Infernal, which features former Necrophobic / Dark Funeral guitarist David Parland, has issued the following statement about a request to remove a cover song from their play list:

"A BIG FUCK OFF TO THE U.S. BAND ‘VON’, WHICH I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF SINCE I HEARD THEIR ‘SATANIC BLOOD’ DEMO IN 1992. WE (INFERNAL) RECORDED IN 2002 A COVER OF THE SONG ‘DEVIL PIG’ FOR THE INFERNAL MCD ‘SUMMON FORTH THE BEAST’ RELEASED BY HAMMERHEART RECORDS. THIS SONG IS NOW PERMANENTLY REMOVED FROM OUR PLAYING LIST, CLAIMING IT TO BE ‘ILLEGAL’.

"NOW, THIS COVER -OF COURSE STATING IT WAS A COVER AND NOTHING ELSE, HAS BEEN TAKEN AWAY, MOST LIKELY BECAUSE OF A REQUEST FROM THE RECENTLY REFORMED ‘BAND’ VON.

"AS FAR AS I KNOW, THE ARE NO LAWS PREVENTING ANYONE FROM RECORDING A COVER BY ANY BAND. NO SUCH LAWS EXIST HERE IN EUROPE, MAYBE IT IT IS DIFFERENT IN THE US???

"ANYWAY, TOO BAD THE ‘BAND’ VON CAN NOT APPRECIATE WHEN FANS OF THEM PAY HOMAGE TO THEM.

"WITHOUT THAT SOME BANDS THROUGH THE YEARS HAVE DONE COVERS (AMONG OTHERS MY ‘OWN’ BANDS DARK FUNERAL AND INFERNAL), THE CULT FOLLOWING OF THE ‘BAND’ VON WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN AS STRONG AS IT HAVE BECOME, BY FANS DOING COVERS, AND SOME SMALL UNDERGROUND LABELS HAVING RELEASED SOME ‘BOOTLEGS’ ETC.

"/D. FROM NOW ON AN EX-FAN."

I can't believe they got all bent out of shape over something that's in reality an honor paid to a band. Von is too full of themselves and need to deflate those egos before we begin to hate them. The fans can only stand so much petty bickering before it bleeds through to the music.

bands need to paid royalties when another person/band covers their song and releases it. it's petty cash, but is still law. it's a world thing not just the US or Europe. shame on this band for not knowing that and shame on the band making them take it down and not inform them the reasons and work out a deal.

As far as I know, this was a cover INFERNAL did back in 2002. I know for example, that Hellspawn Records, (now defunct swedish cult labe runned by Blackmoon himselfl) tried to contact these
dudes back in the 90és for two years, before finally going ahead and a releasing a 666 copies
limited edition of the "Satanic Blood" demo. Originally it should have been a joint venture between
old NECROPOLIS ánd HELLSPAWN, but even U.S. label NECROPOLIS couldn´t get hold of any of these "VON" members, how hard they even tried. Now 15 years later, this band comes back
from living under a rock, seeming to think they are a multi billion worldwide corporation.

So these facts should get things into perespective.
