Opeth Breaks News Of New "Saints Row" PSP Video Game Early

As was previously reported, Opeth announced on their website that their song "The Lotus Eater" would be appearing in the upcoming "Saints Row" video game for the PSP. Apparently the game hadn't been announced yet however, as was reported in the following excerpt from a Game Informer article:

Sometimes a game is so secret that all aspects of its existence are veiled from the public for months, waiting for high profile events like E3 to finally announce them. And sometimes a Swedish metal band mentions tells the world on its website. Saint's Row PSP is one of those games, and Opeth is one of those bands.

For the uninitiated, "The Lotus Eater" is a track off Opeth's 2008 album Watershed. The track includes such heartwarming lyrics as, "After all you fell in love with death, life has aborted." With death being a key topic in much of Opeth's music, the inclusion of their music into a Saint's Row game feels like a natural fit.

Finally, the band says, "So if you love playing video games: the game is expected to hit the streets around March 2010." We do love playing video games, Opeth. Thanks for the heads up. You can always count on Swedish metal bands for breaking industry news.

That he did it on purpose? Nothing at all; I kind of doubt that. He probably didn't know :p especially since I think he said in the release (I read this yesterday) that he wasn't really into video games :p He's got music and a family eating enough of his life; I doubt he even has much time for that :p

It might have been on purpose. Whichever it was, it's still awesome news, though for me it's more the fact that heavier metal is slowly growing more popular than the game, as I've never been a gamer and never will. :)

Oh and BTW, it must be a record ... I can't see the name 'Metallica' anywhere in hot topics for once. ;)

What is really funny is the band pic given is an old one. Two members gone and no Peir. Hell, even Martin in the picture has super long hair!

#4: I would be inclined to disagree. He REALLY hates promotional crap like this. I'm betting he MADE time to do it on purpose.

guymandude: The administrator of the site feels it's more important to bring us the news instead of the most current tredy picture. I think it's a good choice.
