Metallica has apparantly set the record for the largest ever attendance at the Trent FM Arena in Nottingham, England. Approximately 10,337 fans packed the arena to see the band perform. The previous record was held by indie band Kings Of Leon.

"We are always striving to provide increased capacities for promoters and this record breaking attendance highlights our success in being able to attract the highest calibre of artists to our venue," said chief executive Geoff Huckstep.

"Metallica put on a spectacular gig last night – performed 'in the round' thus guaranteeing a great view for the fans - it was also the fastest selling gig here shifting an amazing 9,500 tickets in just one hour when it went on sale - another record breaking milestone for the venue."

Dumbass...i mean confused, i dont exactly have a ph d. but if i would guess with the words "in the round" it would probably mean something like a stage in the center of the venue...but i could be wrong cause like i said, im not a ph d. or anything like that.

Well I do have a PHD, and I can confirm that you are correct in that "in the round" means there is a stage in the very center of the arena, and the seating is all a"round" the stage. I'm glad to be able to contribute my expertise in this matter. Gotta go, I've got a crash course in brain surgery in 5 minutes.....

Oz: I take it this is a small venue? 10,000 really isn't that many people.

BlindGreed- Agreed. When they came to LA they played two nights at the Forum. Each night there was 18-19,000 people there. Regardless, 9500 tickets sold in an hour is not too shabby!

yeah, the snake pit thing was for the black album tour, it wasn't really an "in the round" set up, just the stage protruded more into the center of the venue. there was a blocked off area behind the stage. They did in the round for one of the other tours I saw, can't remember which album. lots of theatrics for that show
man....I know far too many details about this crap

BG, well small by American standards. Aside from festivals and the occasional stadium gig (which is rare) these sizes are the biggest the UK has to offer really. It's the biggest venue in Nottingham at least.
